Sorry, I forgot: Close Encounters of the Third Kind (what a classic!!), with Richard Dreyfuss character returning to earth young and healthy. One of my nephew he is 15 yo, thinks the aliens ate Dreyfuss when they took him to their mothership. He thinks the movie was cool but old, Oh! dear the generation gap is finally affecting me.
P.S.: What about Jaws 7th: ¨bigger, faster, stronger...MEANER!! and now in proficient 3D¨. I miss so much Spielbergs style movie directing and J.Williams encores.
I read somewhere on the internet that there are pre-production plans for the remake of this classic. I am dying to know when they are going to film it. I also would like to see remakes of: Space 1999, Six-Million Dollar Man and perhaps Lost in Space (the remake of that movie with Gary Oldman was pretty cool). What about the third part of Space Odyssey, I mean there are 4 novels written by A.C.Clark about the subject. Whatever they do, I hope science is not lost in space. Im so tire of Star Wars.
If he would have just given them the landing coordinates, then they could have made a feature length movie out of this. It would have been good. It may have even won an Oscar.
I'd heard of Forbidden Planet, but I had no idea Leslie Nielsen was in it, and he is younger then I've ever seen. He's was one of the best comedians if you ask me. He had is own style that'd leave you gut wrenching laughing just from one line, only to get hit by another with no time to recuperate. Bless this man.
saw this when i was a kid.....many years ago.it was way ahead of its time..with regards to special effects..etc and i still enjoy it today.....remarkable
@oldschoolGhost Damn right! This is the Grandpapa of American SF. And I always felt that the bridge crew of the Classic Enterprise was directly derived from the crew of the C-57D. United Planets is the original Federation of Planets. Enterprise just made their crew more multicultural, reflecting the '60s.
@vraydio I guess he never was aware of Star Trek. Bummer, because Lieutenant Uhura had some gams, man. Then there was J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, which featured the super foxy Zoe Saldana. Richard Pryor is either funny or super angry...I can't tell (which is a problem for both whites and blacks IMHO).
@vraydio Yeah, he saw Logan's Run (1976) and figured that the future was white. The astronaut Dodge (played by Jeff Burton, 1925-1988) was black, though he gets killed early on just like black characters in horror films.
I always wondered why Dr. Morbius gave the landing co-ordinates in the movie. This short version makes a lot more sense, but then we wouldn't have the remaining minutes of a great 50's sci-fi flick. Now... why did they really turn the spaceship around? Morbius told the crew that Robby the Robot was already engaged to Altaira. They just lost interest.
Wow so many later movies and TV series were inspired by this film. Not just the robot but also the space ship for Lost in Space. The uniforms influenced those used in Star Trek Enterprise. The ear set used in Star Trek. The terminology (e.g., hyper-drive) and most stunning, Leslie as JJ Adams -- the prototype for James Kirk.
What a tribute Hollywood over the years paid to this movie and the actors within it.
Ah, I see this was an excercise in anti-humor, to a degree. I couldn't understand why you were showing the first 5 minutes of the film unedited (I had expected lots of edits to jump through the film quickly), but then when you got to the "punchline" as it were, it made those first five minutes seem all the more absurd. Really funny, I thought.
I get it- "Okay, we don't land...let's get on to our next assignment." It WOULD look like a dull film {"Look, why just can't we keep it that way?", Dore Schary of MGM might have wondered. "We'd save a fortune on special effects! Just squeeze it between the next 'Tom & Jerry' release, nobody's interested, anyway."}. I've often wondered what might have happened if "Klaatu" from "The Day the Earth Stood Still" had simply decided to bypass our planet instead of LANDING on it...and blew it up anyway!
remember seeing this on saturday tv when I was a kid the part where the invisible monster is walking and all you can see are footprints in the ground...how cool.. I have to admit the dialog is pretty stupid
LOL! I like it! This is my fav old sci fi flick. You get Shakespeare and "Airplane" rolled into it too! hehe Love credits too. Never see them any more cause they have to fill it up with commercials on TV. Thanks
I always thought the Star Trek 2: Wrath of Khan would have been great if, upon realizing they were in Khan's cargo containers on Ceti Alpha 5, Chekov just said "Chekov to Reliant. Beam us up!"
no, okay bye. This is great just think of the other movies that you could do this to, for instance "don't go to castle dracula I beg you", oh okay I'll go home then, or "please stop this insane experiment Dr Frankenstein", okay I will, or "please don't fight any more Rocky", okay I won't or "the engine canne take any more capn", okay I'll slow down then or, "two million dollars in gold through a traffic jam, make it work Charlie" no it's ridiculous. This list could go on and on.
Hillarious! This is one of my favorite science fiction movies. The cast was full of actors that would eventually become famous and the special effects while exploring the Krell machine are fabulous. I think I may have to crank up the VCR and watch the "long" version. Thanks!

Richard Pryor noticed that there were never any black people in science fiction movies. He remarked "They don't think we'll make it to the future".
