  • Only Ralph Nader has made such promises as Zinn has pointed out but hes one man and not alot of americans seem to be aware that hes for real.

  • That's a shame, though I still have hope for you...

  • why do you watch the Real News, I mean this is not mainstream media and you need to have made an effort to get here and if you did, this would indicate you are mostly enlightened.

Alternatively you could have searched for the strings "Howard Zinn" because you are Republican (i.e. suffer from a personality disorder) and come here to bad mouth Zinn.

At any rate: Just stop, mate. Life is beautiful, stop the self-loathing.

  • @BbdHome: This means you either lack understanding or are committed to sovereign nationalism.

  • Hey Paul Jay, have you guys ever tried to contact Ron Paul for an interview? I don't think I've ever seen him on TRN yet.

  • Anyway, continuing...

and demonstrate a greater tendency toward emotion-based thought.

But we share one opinion regardless: the public school system in this country is an atrocious failure. I was fortunate to have been raised by a mother who encouraged me to read, ask questions, examine multiple perspectives, and think for myself. I ended-up with what I jokingly refer to as a 'Good Will Hunting'-style self-inflicted education, and my life is better for it...

  • Hmmm. I swear I typed that in reply to lictor313...

  • Why do you keep talking as if the parties are behind the problems?

The same problems are in place no matter which party is in place.

The backers of the elected is where the decisions are being made.

You are only wasting time and money by suggesting that we wait Obama out to see if he is going to do something.

They all do what they are told.

  • not ron paul though. we need more people who speak openly like him but not all of his views are sound for the next chapter.

  • I soundly agree with Paul's foreign policy suggestions, it's his domestic policy I can't stand.

  • except for his views on abortion.. its pretty bang on

  • no public education?

  • have you seen what state public "education" is in?

How much money is flushed down the toilet each year to maintain the nation's "ignoramus hatcheries"?

It would be well for America to return to their small "one room schoolhouse" of 70 years ago, in which a small number of children of varying ages were treated as individuals, not made into problems, were taught the rudimentary elements of our culture, not indoctrinated with subversive fictions.

  • think about this for instance: in 1925, every american 12 year old could recite cogent latin and even read greek.

Today we teach remedial English in COLLEGES and Universities...

america is a basketcase of ignorance- 18th place for scientific literacy, 14th place for mathematical literacy- the US is on a downward spiral and is beginning to equal countries Nicaragua and Brazil in education- that's right: THE THIRD WORLD.

scrap this cesspool of a liberal school system

  • Nicaragua and Brazil are not third world countries, but I take your point about America's education system being poor.

But what do you mean by the 'liberal school system'?

  • and yes Nicaragua is a third world country - Brazil perhaps less so (30th most developed).

And yes we have a liberal schools, their purpose, of hauling children around in buses to get them away from the influence of their parents, herd them into masses in which they would associate with the dregs of mankind, subject them to "counselors" expert in unhinging the human personality and making psychiatric cases out of normal children, (continued) ...

  • and replace the rudiments of humane literacy and Western Civilization with poisonous nonsense of a "social science" and "Equality of man" that would induce proletarian squalor.

The purpose of the schools today is to indoctrinate first and educate second: that is to inject into the minds of their young victims the liberals "One World" pus. All of this while bovine Americans blink uncomprehendingly and take pride in how much they are being taxed for new school buildings.

  • I agree with a good deal of what you say, but it should be noted that the secondary schooling system (high school) developed from the need to create a more skilled labor force. In other words, it developed because in response to a perceived necessity of the capatalist system.

An ignorant populace is a more easily controlled populace. As much as I hate to say this - being a native Okie - the conservative masses, the primary base of the Republican and Libertarian parties, are less educated...

  • This state imposed liberal school system is what Howard is in favor of and fought for. This was instituted behind the face of NAACP (unelected) and under the guise of "helping black people" with the assumption liberal/corp propaganda created that black schools are inferior because they're black and had to be instituted through the courts so people don't vote on the issues and where the people would lose, naturally, people don't vote to harm themselves.

  • Zinn is no kind of imperial liberal, hes a good socialist.

  • will not go back to just the way it was. it's not sustainable. we'll see about the future.

  • RON PAUL!!!

And I know he's republican. But he only chooses to be Republican because he know's third parties aren't taken seriously during presidential campaigns.

  • THIRD PARTY!!!!

  • Know what? For those interested, I recommend we start a new political party now, on the internet, with a strong platform, so we're ready when (if) the situation deteriorates. Like Zinn said, organization is key. And time is needed to organize.

  • We are entering a time of ideological ferment and there will be many new ideas floating around, situations like these have brought change, real change, throughout human history and will do so again.

  • We got "real change" in the '30s when Roosevelt took us off the gold standard.

    We need positive change.

  • all the third parties have to unite to realize this goal...

  • Strict ideologues are incapable of forming coalitions based upon shared interests with people they disagree with otherwise. Dirty tricksters with unlimited resources, infiltrate and undermine with deadly competence. Zinn, you are a sweetheart, but you are wrong. Kucinich proposes nationalizing the FED but RonPaulers are oblivious and hostile. This 50s Fascist, "anti-socialist" brainwashed horde, these noveau peaceniks, are intractable. You're pissing in the wind old friend.

  • Funny how they muse on a third party, then dismiss it during election time. *sigh*. Still, a good enough video, so I give it 3 stars.

  • You know, I was thinking the exact same thing. When will they ever learn?

  • Ditto :)

  • Libertarian Party!!! or one that is a strict constructionist constitutional party!!!

  • Funny this new party makes me think of the nazi party and how it happened.

  • Yes, in a way. One of Hitler's attributes toward gaining power in Germany was that he said that there were too many parties in Germany and that the National Socialist Worker's Party would unite all the Germans together with the poser concentrated in Berlin.

He was also against federalism as well.

  • Yes. Regardless of how it ended. The NSDAP started from a populist movement.

People growing ever so tired of 2 large parties doing nothing.

Check out the austrian election where the far right won lots of votes. Same thing but smaller of course.

  • We are heading for a war for the remaining energy on the planet. This race will also unleash the 3rd World War because oil powers the military and also the flow of income. Without it a nation is dead in the water...for now.

Politics will not change because those that control it financially will not allow third party politicians in unless they control them also. There is only one way to bring about change from tyranny, and that is for the people to over throw the government.

  • all party-systems become oligarchic and anti-democratic.

'representative' democracy is largely a sham when the majority of the people are wage-slaves 6-7 days out of the week without any say in their workplace.

democracy is the only solution: you see its success on small levels regularly and on larger ones when it does happen at all.

  • The only way Democracy will work is to move forward without imperialism or a Private Central Banking system. Society must Nationalize the Banks and then become equal shareholders. Otherwise Democracy does not function for the public, it functions for the very few that own it.

  • on the same wavelengths here too!

  • I would LOVE it if Howard Zinn is right about a 3rd party being more liberal than the Dems but I'm not buying it. There's been too much right wing propaganda in the news media for too long for Americans to switch that quickly.

Judging by Pres Obama's actions, he's a moderate. His words had me thinking he was a liberal but that's proven not true in these first two months.

  • You are correct, he is a centrist. But if you'd been paying closer attention you would have realized that BEFORE the election. That's why I voted for Nader.

  • "That's why I voted for Nader. "

I voted for Nader too , as I did for the last 3 elections. When we are still mired with troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, without single-payer healthcare, with poverty still rampant and more deregulation 4 years from now, the Obama voters can all blame themselves.

  • republicrats are 1 group of tyrants !

  • all the things Howard is talking about coming from a new party is what the democrats have been promising for 70 years.

  • The system is set up against a third party. Lots of extra red tape specifically set up to keep third parties out of the democratic system. I like what Jesse Ventura said, that a third option at the ballet box should be none of the above or a vote of incompetence. Business management calls this feedback.

  • The Constitution Party is the fastest growing third party.

  • Totally fake .. Zinn is a Price "System flunky only. That means he supports the money system. Energy accounting is the next logical system to preserve the resource base, and attempt sustainability. Google Technocracy movement... Technocracy Inc.

    Progressive wing? Ha ha.... funny.

Technocracy is a non political party which is run by science and not a people oligarchy. Zinn is promoting more of the same bull. ----- He is a money flunky... only.

  • I live in Japan. If you aren't careful you can go throug 1000 dollars in a week. Atleast in TOkyo.

  • This man is out of touch. To say Americans do not mind big govmnt. is dead wrong. We hate big gvmnt! Our country was founded on the idea of LESS govmnt. & more freedom!

  • this isn't 1776- a lot has changed since then.

  • Not that fact.

  • Then why do the American people vote for political parties that pass near trillion dollar annual defense budgets? Sounds like big govt, to me...

  • Because they talk nice. They make all kinds of promises they do not intend on keeping. If you hav'nt noticed though, there is a huge awakening happening right now. We are in the midst of it. I believe the political direction America is on now will change dramatically in the next few years or so.

  • the US government was founded by and for slave-owning, anti-democratic land thieves.

americans likely forget that, but the indigenous, blacks and poor cannot.

  • WRONG! The Constitution was written for everyone. It took the US a very long time to live up to its princepals

  • how am i wrong? your claims about the almighty paper are anachronistic at best.

-it was written for property owners alone. here's the most glorious leader james madison: "government ought to to be so constituted as to protect the minority of the opulent against the majority".

that has been the sole function of the modern state since the 17th century. and it runs counter to freedom and decency. see: genocide of the the americas.

  • 8 years my ass, he's gone in 2012

  • Yes we need a new paradigm. A new party: The Restoration Party - that adheres to the letter of the Constitution and moves for authentic Freedom, Liberty and Justice for all. Not just the rich, not to care for everyone. But a new party that places value on communities of production, resources and talent - rather than incestuous and nepotistic corruption.

  • "Yes we need a new paradigm. A new party: The Restoration Party - that adheres to the letter of the Constitution and moves for authentic Freedom, Liberty and Justice for all. Agreed 100%

  • seriously, we need to donate and get the real news network out to the masses

  • How much has social security been tapped in the last few years? Our Dpt. O'Defense has only defended CORPORATE interests.

THERE HAS BEEN ONLY ONE PARTY FOR DECADES.

  • With the way we are DIS-EMPOWERED by SOCIETY and GOV"T, IT WILL GET WORSE. There will ALWAYS be those who see.

  • Hmmmm......left and right unite under anarchism.

  • accually this guys wrong. The korean war was a defensive war. And so was the 1st Iraq war. We were defending our allies.

  • lol no, we went in to divide and try to suppress communism from spreading further and split the country.

You mention the Gulf War was done to defend our allies? Kuwait? Iraq was on our side as well... =I

And he is right... every war was an offensive war...

  • I think we forget how "Communism and Captilalism" are just pawns in a game.

  • Communism I can understand ( Central Power under the government or leader ) but Capitalism? Please Elaborate.

  • Well, the Communism as we know it has been Stalinism. Capitalism as we know it for the last century has actually been a form of Fascism...Where the government and corporations have shared titles. ACTUALLY, there's an argument that the two systems are the same, and controlled by a third party who play the PEOPLE like pawns...(or prawns!).

I reckon my argument comes from an anti-financial "elite" point of view. After all, they have FUNDED nearly all wars for a looooooooooooooong time!

  • Communism has been ( and is ) Lenin, Stalin, China, N. Korea, Etc.

Capitalism is and has NEVER been Fascism. It is the complete opposite. I know what you mean but you gotta becareful to state why you say something.

Today people blame Free Market Capitalism for the faults of the economy and they couldn't be more wrong. What we have REALLY had ( and what you are referring to I'm sure ) is "Corporatism" = A Sect. Of Fascism.

In a Real Free Market, u wouldn't have anything close to what u said.

  • We're arguing the same thing. The notion of "Communism" in actuality, is Stalinism, NOT the ideal of Marx. The IDEA of "Capitalism" has been a fraud for a century at least. As you say, "Capitalism"= "Corporatism"=Fascism. PEOPLE....HUMANS pay the price for these lies. We're on the same team, I think. :)

  • Roger Zelazny wrote a short story where a man was captured, tortured, dismembered until all he had was a brain. The "Aliens" that abducted him were searching for a leader. The tortured man "won". He was a lump of flesh. No decisions effected him, for he could partake in nothing. He was "impartial in his judgement.

  • Yea I think we are lol

The root of all this garbage = The Central Bank

Until that is abolished, we are going to go in these circles >:I

  • Yeah. Semantics is the arch-enemy of Unity; Semantics is a tool of Greed. I don't know what to do about it. There ARE LAWS! When will these people be brought to justice? It's such an insidious mindset.

  • The root of all this garbage = Capitalism

Until that is abolished, we are going to go in these circles

there were booms and busts BEFORE the fed, though there were times when the busts were fairly small, namely when the government employed Keynesian economics.

  • Ending the federal reserve is the answer. Keynes was an idiot! Manipulation of the free market is the reason we have depressions. Any & every economy has fluctuation. Its too much govmnt. interfierience that prolongs the problems & makes them even worse. Don't blame capitalism! Capitalism its what has made America flourish & advance the world. Let the free mkt. work. END THE FED!

  • The Fed manipulates booms and busts that is true. But who is orchestrating and pulling the strings of the Fed. Why is Israel the only nation to be able to have dual citizenship with the US? Why did those men in the white van say our problem is with the Palestines. Why did Israel attack the Uss Liberty? Why does Israel continue to commit terrorism and get away with it? Why did no Israleis die on 9/11?

  • Once again to set the record straight, you're talking about Crony-Capitalism. Not real Capitalism.

  • Correct.

  • Fascism is what happens when capitalism beaks down. See 'The Road to Serfdom' Frederick von Hayek

  • Not just Fascism but many structures derive from it. Whether Communism or otherwise.

In a Free Market, people wouldn't see a logical reason ( atleast not to me ) to want a central control over their lives, except for those who seek power and control over others themselves.

Interesting you mention Hayek. What's even better is that you are a youtube user who mentions his name to me. I continue to study his work, M. Friedman's, Mises, Etc.

    :-)

  • "ACTUALLY, there's an argument that the two systems are the same, and controlled by a third party who play the PEOPLE like pawns...(or prawns!)."

That isn't true Capitalism, that is Crony-Capitalism. That is what libertarians are against. That is what we've been saying all along, the system is a sham. These booms and busts are crony engineered. You can have a boom and bust with real capitalism but nothing like this insanity.

  • No accually he is wrong. The korean war was started by the DPRK when they invaded the south. The south was an ally of the U.S. We took southern korea from the Japanese during WW2 and the Russians took the north. Kuwait was an ally of the U.S. And if you remember the U.N called for military action. You need to brush up on your history.

  • You're right but what I am saying to you ( By Law ) we weren't defending. They had a border conflict, it had nothing to do with the U.S. itself is what Is meant. If you look at allies as a part of the U.S. because of interest, then thats diff.

U.N. is NOT the U.S. and 2nd, Iraq was also an ally, that is why I questioned the poster. The U.S. knew Saddam was going to take back Kuwait ( it was theirs and England Annexed it for Oil ) and they gave him the OK.

  • Now if you say " Why the hell would they give him the OK "

Well, that leads into the plan to plant a base in the motherland of all the Middle East, Saudi Arabia.

The Gulf War was an unnecessary strategic war, not for anything else.

  • Do some research. The "conspiracies" that were laughed off for so long have been proven to be correct. It's all about money, and only a handful control the money. I don't know what to say to you.

  • ya ya go wear your tin hat you forgot it. your ""conspiracies" are still laughed at.

  • We gave Hussein the green light to enter Kuwait. Look up April Glaspie and then start talking.

  • The first Iraq war was an act of brilliant entrapment and happened by Anglo-American design. It was NOT a defensive war. Besides, Kuwait was a product of colonial devide and rule real politik.

  • I agree. Kuwait was one country who bought into the materialism and "ease" of the globalists...much like the farmers of America who sold their souls for combines and multi-million dollar equipment under the sales pitch of "ease and profit". They called the loans in early! Now look who owns the food supply! The genetically modified Globalists! Kill HR 875!!!

  • Who were we defending in Iraq? Was this comment intended to be humorous or are you just plain ignorant?

  • I'll try one last time to help RealNews with it's ineptness:

Multipart videos need to have EXACTLY THE SAME TITLE, followed by Pt 1, or 3 of 5, or 2/4, etc.

Furthermore, if they would use the "this video is a response to" (the earlier part), and list the next part in "video responses," then one could easily go to the next, or the preceding part without any trouble.

    Example:

    Howard Zinn Rant 1/5

    Howard Zinn Rant 2/5

    Howard Zinn Rant 3/5

    etc.

  • true that.... label your videos correctly please

  • lol @ 'rant' when you're the one ranting. good points though.

  • Any one who has a multi epsode video should put in simple links to the other parts. I find it very frustrating when this simple step is ignored. You want to show your video, then joint it togeather.
