  • I absolutely love this speech!

  • What a condescending little bitch.

  • 1:00 - 1:08. Westbro Baptist church. you have a community of the bastards now.

  • Owned.

  • And THAT is onscreen chemistry.

  • Why so Handsome James?!

  • This film comes from way back when men weren't allowed to be pussies. You'll NEVER see a seen like this in any of today's movies. THESE MEN had balls!

  • back when hollywood was still proamerica...

  • I see he fails 2 mention 2 her that the company which supplied Hitler's Luftwaffe with all his fuel, so HER city and fellow countrymen could all be blitzed, was an American company called Standard Oil. Not 1 German plane bombing Britain didn't have American sourced fuel from a company which our goverment happily took taxes from. This is not 2 mention our Nazi connection through our banks. Chase Manhattan people who raised money for the Nazis DURING the war

He didn't mention any of this to her

  • @dontbothertoreadthis

He didn't mention any of this to her because it was BESIDE THE POINT. Fact is, these damn Europeans act like they're so much higher and mightier than America, and like we're the fucking reason the world's gone down the drain. Truth is, it was circling the drain before America happened and Europeans have ALWAYS been warring with one another. So who the fuck are they to criticize America for being a bunch of war-mongerers or having disingenious politicians?

  • @MMRED - It's not beside the point given he refered 2 her as an 'American hater.' If bombs rained down on NY from foreign planes that the Brits fueled 2 allow those bombs 2 fall; then you'd no doubt be a Brit hater in the same way she was/called an American hater. He said 2 her in this clip that we didn't introduce war into her island, but we sure fueled it 2 happen which is just the same thing in my book. And those 'lousy French' came 2 our shores 2 fight our war once, so we were in moral debt.

  • @dontbothertoreadthis

"If bombs rained down on NY from foreign planes that the Brits fueled 2 allow those bombs 2 fall; then you'd no doubt be a Brit hater in the same way she was/called an American hater"

If THE BRITS did it, then yes. If a single profiteering British company did, then no. I'd hate the COMPANY that did. WE didn't fuel ANYTHING, Dumbass.

And who said the French were lousy? He said their SERVICE was lousy. We didn't hate the French till they hated on us.

  • @MMRED - Don't be ingnorant, of course we'd hate on Britain if they supplied fuel to an enemy to bomb us rather thn just the company, we hated on Britain just recently when a company only half-owned by them spilt some oil in the Gulf of Mexico. Our president even saw fit to change the name of the company to heap blame on the whole of Britain. Now, given our reaction to that then what do you think our reaction would be if a wholly owned British company supplied fuel to allow NY to be bombed?

  • @dontbothertoreadthis

whoah, whoah whoah whoah whaoh! I didn't say anything about WE. I'm not speaking for anybody but myself when I say how I'd feel about the British in such a situation. And I for one, DIDN'T blame the British for what happened with the BP oil crisis. And if WE (as a whole country) blamed them, then it wasn't right for us to have done it, but that doesn't make it any more right when the Europeans act that way either. Course I don't remember anyone I talked to blaming the UK.

  • @MMRED - ...and they are higher than us given that we put Britain in debt for over 50 years because of that war as they had to pay us so we'd help fight a common enemy. They were put in debt by us because they were having to fight the Nazis who had obliterated British cities with the Luftwaffe who we supplied fuel for. Britain doesn't charge us a cent for helping us in our wars, but we charged them to fight the evil that was Nazism. Doesn't say a lot about us and our stance on that evil.

  • @dontbothertoreadthis

First off, WE didn't supply them fuel... one of our companies did. The whole country didn't make that decision or even the government. The bush family DO descend from scum, but our whole country can't be blamed for the decisions of one company. In EVERY country (Britain included) there will always be unethical soulless proffiteers out there. As for the debt do you REALLY think the British wouldn't put US in debt if we needed THEIR help that badly? If so you're delusional.

  • @MMRED - The fact is we didn't stop that company (Standard Oil) from supplying Hitler with fuel until we entered the war, and then we gave them a paltry $5,000 fine under the Trading with the Enemy Act. Until we entered we let them carry on supplying while we got Britain heavily into debt buying off of us to fight the Nazis who our companies were helping. We were doing a roaring trade from all angles.

  • @dontbothertoreadthis

It was a pretty delicate political situation concerning our relationship to the war in europe at the time. Even after we went to war with Japan, Roosevelt didn't want to go to war with Hitler (as he had promised he wouldn't when he was running for election) It wasn't until Hitler declared war on us that we stepped into it. So the whole issue was a delicate one. Also, how much AT THE TIME did our government know FOR SURE about Standard Oil's connections to Hitler?

  • @MMRED

MIND YOU that we still needed Standard Oil's business at the time.

  • @MMRED The gov knew about SO, and so much so that the moment we entered WW2 we made sure they stopped supplying Hitler and only us. SO's deals were no secret. What bargaining chips did we use on the Brits? Or do U mean we blackmailed them with Bush's 'with us or against us' speech? Considering our global clout that U mention, it is amazing how many nations ignored us over Iraq. And Britain saw fit 2 ignore us over Vietnam. If we did blackmail them over Iraq then they are on a higher moral plain.

  • @MMRED - No, we didn't want to enter the war. Hitler was supplied fuel from America and an American company helped develope the gas (Zyklon B) to kill the Jews, and yet with all that evil going on and an evil that we helped to carry out; we still didn't want to enter the war. Not figting against Nazism at the earliest opportunity that we couyld was immoral.

  • @dontbothertoreadthis

Once again, you hold all of America responsible for what some shady businessmen were doing. I'm pretty sure you're one of those people who constantly bitches about America being run by it's corporations, but nonetheless, you should not LITERALLY equate our government with our corporations, which is what you seem to be doing. Even after catching them, the fact was we tried to put an end to their dealings. We were probably lenient because we NEEDED them.

  • @MMRED You seem 2 be forgetting the original argument and this video. I'm saying, given our late role in WW2 yet help going 2 Hitler from our shores very early on; that Julie Andrew's charactor had every right to be snooty to James Garner. The Brits realized Hitler needed to be stopped long before us and the Brits had to stomach the fact that all their major cities lay in complete ruins thanks to our corporations who we refused to interfere with their trading....until we eventually joined...cont

  • @MMRED..cont - So let us put ourselves in Andrew's shoes 4 a moment: Half of her nations cities lay in ruins and thousands of her fellow countrymen lay dead, thanks to American companies. Her nation, at war with a terrible evil, was threatened by an American gov of stopping supplies 2 her nation 2 fight this evil unless it handed over secrets such as the magnatron and details of the jet engine; along with bundles of money. We then only help when our hand is forced. Of course she is pissed off.

  • @dontbothertoreadthis

What were the British doing for us that so entitled them to us going into a world wide war for them without expecting them to do something in return? Our terms of repayment were VERY generous: only 1/10 of production costs for whatever they had LEFT. And WHY NOT let us in on their technology if we're supposed to be "allies"? It seems they wanted the BENEFITS of alliance (us fighting for them and giving them $2 BILLION of supplies) without having to give anything back.

  • @MMRED

Also, there were PLENTY of Americans who were ready and waiting for the moment that we could go to war with Hitler. Problem was that like usual, people were divided on the issue (which tends to happen in a democracy) and there was plenty of politicians who wanted to go to war but had to tread the issue carefully since public opinion wasn't unanimous. Which changed once Hitler gave us all the go-ahead we needed himself. Britain had more unanimity because they were EUROPEAN. --

  • @MMRED

-- and as Europeans, it was, in fact, THEIR war. Because it was going to be effecting them and Hitler trying to take over the UK seemed imminent. They didn't have the uncertainty to debate the issue that we did. As for not getting the point of the video, Emily is mad because he's living luxuriously during war time and she equates this kind of decadence with american culture itself. He's arguing that Europeans have always been as greedy, barberous and uncivilized as us but are hypocrites.

  • @MMRED - I miss your responses as you respond to yourself and so I don't get the messages. It wasn't 'their war' and their war alone as we sold them weapons. Once you do that you involve yourself. If two men are fighting and you arm one with a knife; then you involve yourself. Trouble with us is we were hypocrites who happily allowed US firms to profit as well as the gov. We were happy to get rich from that war and simply hoped we could sit aside while counting the money. We couldn't!....

  • @MMRED - ...you can't take any notice of this scene as an American as it is an American movie, but if you want to take notice then how about Emily being mad that Americans, who were struggling financially prior to oh-so-profitable WW2, becoming decadent and flaunting it in her face because we were finding wealth by selling fuel to the Nazis to make her people poor, and charging them to fight this evil who were our enemies too? America wanted nothing but profit from WW2 - and got it!....cont

  • @dontbothertoreadthis

Dude, I'm gonna be straight up with you. I'm sick of this argument, so I didn't even read most of the shit you wrote down. Let's just agree to disagree cause otherwise this argument is gonna drag on forever.

  • @MMRED I'm sure you're sick of it. I understand that asking U about your personal feelings regarding the Nazis is a killer question because if you're against them and what they did, then defending our decision to stay out of WW2 early on becomes impossible. Like I say there are to very different Americas, the current 1 who would act sooner (as we should of done back then) and the pre-WW2 USA who thought nothing of letting such evil carry on so long as it thought it wasn't being affected itself.

  • @dontbothertoreadthis

    Uh-huh...

  • @MMRED ...Ya-hah!

  • @dontbothertoreadthis You spell 2 two and 4 four, grow up and type correctly

  • @eddiebaba Well some of us type more than a sentence here on YouTube and we're limited with the number of characters we can use, so it's a good idea to use alternatives but alternative words/numbers that people can understand if you just happen to have gone over the limit - such as you understood my comment by saying "2 two and 4 four". You see, you understood my comment perfectly and it was a comment I could fit in to what YouTube allows.

You should have used a period instead of a comma btw.

  • @dontbothertoreadthisI I actually regret posting that because now that I have read all of your comments you are basically an ignorant knowitall who I should have paid no attention to and ignored like I usually do. You post incomplete facts about history and ignore others when they try to correct you.

  • @eddiebaba - Actually all I have said is documented historical fact. It's not speculation or anything like that, but documented fact which has never been denied or attempted to be denied. I don't like the fact it happened, but I also refuse to sweep history under the carpet - even if it hurts.

If you can prove to me that Standard Oil wasn't fined by our goverment or show me where they denied ever selling Hitler his fuel, then I'll take it back. SO were publicly fined and never denied anything.

  • @MMRED - You see, what you have to ask yourself as a person, and not as an American is, do you agree that the Nazis were evil and for the good of mankind (not just Europe) they had to be stopped? If you do then there is no excuse to be made as to why we weren't there from the start. It wasn't just Europe before we entered either as the British kicked the Nazis out of Africa, so Nazism was spreading fast, although the Brits were managing to contain them to Europe....cont

  • @MMRED The British wanted us 2 fight because fighting the Nazis was a MORAL thing to do. Are you proud we needed 2 be coaxed 2 fight such an evil rather than getting stuck in? The Brits had 2 pay us in money and secrets 2 fight a nation which had declared war on us! I don't see the Brits taking our secrets off us 2 help with our wars against nations which haven't declared war on them, let alone give them secrets of such huge magnitude. Could you imagine America today had the Nazis won in Europe?

  • @dontbothertoreadthis

First of all, it would have behooved them to give us that technology so we could use it against the Nazi's ourselves. Secondly, we GAVE them quite a bit! Whatever they used during the war that wasn't left over afterwards was counted as a donation and everything else they only had to pay a 10th of after it was all said and done. Anyway, rather than taking this argument further (and I definately could) I'm just gonna say this: I'm tired of arguing about this sunject.

  • @MMRED Of course the British won't have been pleased 2 have 2 hand over all their secrets simply 2 get another nation 2 find its morals and fight with them. And it is a good job 4 us that we did or we'd be nothing today. Had we stayed out of it Russia would have swamped us. That aside, what about the little things like the fact us putting a man on the moon would have been impossible but 4 us being in WW2? We were at risk in WW2 but what we did was 2 rape our allies first before getting involved.

  • @MMRED - Tell me what debt the British put us in when we did INDEED need their help so badly to be able to start the war in Iraq? Without them we couldn't have gone to war on our own and without a resolution. They made it possible. We also need them badly in Afghanistan as without them it's a f'up, so imagine if they weren't helping out. They don't charge us anything to help them out or use their bases.

  • @dontbothertoreadthis

"They don't charge us anything to help them out or use their bases."

I sincerely doubt that we didn't have our own bargaining chips to use on the British when we required their prescence in Afghanistan and Iraq. Keep in mind that America is a major power in the world and that our requests/demands for assistance from our allies DOES carry weight to it. I sincerely doubt the British just helped us out of the goodness of their hearts.

  • @MMRED - The fact is the Brits told us we wouldn't be able to stay out of it and they turned out to be right. We were also morally obliged given our goverment happily took taxes from profits gained from arming the Nazis with gas. So, given Britain's cities were in ruins thanks to our aiding the Nazis and corporate leniency, and the fact we even excercised Nazi traits in how our army was structured, the Brits allowed black and white people to fight side-by-side when we didn't...cont

  • @MMRED..means U can hardly expect the Brits 2 welcome us with open arms 2 help clear up a huge mess we helped 2 create. Not only were their cities almost destroyed; and a couple of them were; and thousands lay dead - because we refused to stop our companies from making money, but we then charged Britain for helping them fight the common enemy and they had 2 spend fifty years paying us back. Reverse that situation and do U think we'd welcome the Brits with love? They (she) was right 2 be snooty.

  • @MMRED ...We really needed 2 wake-up 2 the dangers of what was happening and 2 realize that we 2 were at risk, and Pearl Harbor was our wake-up call. We sat back like a fat cat and paid the price. But look at us today preaching 2 the world and if an evil was 2 present itself 2day that cud rival the Nazis by killing millions and also put us directly at risk; we wouldn't hesistate 2 enter a war and neither would the Brits, so 2day's America (our America MRED) has more morals than pre-WW2 America.

  • @dontbothertoreadthis

Since I'm talking to you about this issue, why did you come onto the video, exactly? I dunno what you were expecting to see on it or what you figured people would think when they saw it, and I DOUBT you didn't know what this video was going to be of. So what WAS your reason for clicking on this video?

  • @MMRED - An anti-Brit had it on their channel who I conversed with over on the 'Why People Hate the USA' video. I just clicked it. What are any of us expecting to see when we click a video? Not much point in looking at videos if we know what to expect!

I'm sick of us trying to take the moral highground against the Brits over WW2.

  • @dontbothertoreadthis

Funny, because I think the whole point of this clip is to point out how sick americans can get of Europeans always holding a moral highground over US. For the record, I DO NOT believe that either we or the Europeans ought to be putting ourselves up on some moral highground over the other. I am not saying America is more moral than Europe or that we are superior. I'm just sick of other cultures looking down on us with such an unfair view of us. ALL CULTURES HAVE FAULTS.

  • @dontbothertoreadthis

That's because the government wasn't funding them. Certain American BUSINESSES were. Chase Manhattan IS NOT the US government. Standard Oil WAS NOT the US government. Why is it you can't make that simple distinguishment. WE didn't supply Hitler with ANYTHING. Some rich assholes did. FUCK THOSE PEOPLE.Secondly, we DONATED most of what we gave Britain, but what was left over, they needed to pay us back for. By the way, we only made them pay A TENTH of the production costs.

  • @MMRED It was the Gov's fault that they allowed them to keep profiting by selling to evil. But, you want to talk about the gov and not the companies when it comes to morals; so fine. Brits didn't just have 2 pay us financially, oh no, our gov threatened 2 stop supplying Britain, a nation fighting against the biggest evil ever known, with weapons unless they handed over scientific secrets. We were far behind the UK scientifically so Brit, Tizard, had 2 come here and hand over all their secrets.

  • @dontbothertoreadthis your forgetting that standard oil was selling to germany BEFORE the war started, and that they stopped when the war started. They were then accused of treason for doing so and made sure they didn't do it again.

  • @Smithburg01 - The war started in 1939 and they stopped selling fuel to Germany in 1942.

  • OMG!!! its the grandfather on 8 simple rules XD

  • I guess he told her!

  • Now that's how women like to talked to.....they want a strong man who doesn't mince words. Then again I am biased a little by being married to a woman.

  • What he said!

  • I want to be a complete rawscal too.

  • I love this scene what he says is true Europe and the rest of the world hates our guts, until they need us again then we get a momentary reprieve.

  • @jmstowe

    True that!!

  • cor, JA seems 7 feet tall and 3 inches wide!

  • Gawd he's hot.

  • Boring-ass movie.

  • treats her like crap and she just smiles it off. Nobody's that "charming under it all".

  • @diddymuck

What color is the crack you have been smoking? Obama did the same thing to this planet and look at what has happened.

  • Jimmy Garner drops the hammer on the Euros!

It is a favorite scene of mine, but that strafing-run style of dialog goes on throughout the movie and makes it rather exhausting to watch. Wouldn't surprise me if Aaron Sorkin watched clips to psyche himself up when writing "The West Wing."

  • Thanks for posting this. Paddy was brilliant, imho.

  • My sentiments, exactly.

  • look Europe has been fighting amongst themselves as a Christian continent for centuries, allowed for the slaughter of 6 million Jews, started WWI, WWII, didn't hardly lift a figure against communism, and now they are under assault my a Muslim invasion and they don't even dare say a peep, and American needs to self-flagellate Obama-style, please!

  • Have done the research and it is NOT the USA. Remember who pays the bills for this planet and then see who finances and you will see its NOT here!

  • @56Mohacs Wow, excellent observation!

  • That's how the cow ate the cabbage.

  • You'll be begging for GW Bush once the Islamists come for you.

  • @56Mohacs Awesome!

  • @56Mohacs I wouldn't beg for Bush if I had a gun to my head. I'll chance the after life.

  • @CTM1978

Back the truck up.....Bush is/was too ignorant to be a Hitler/Mussolini. He never was THAT smart

  • It's nothing new. Charles Dickens once visited the United States, and criticised everything in sight.

Year later(after he noticed where most of his income came from) he came back and apologised.

But before he left England he was reported to have said that "I'm going to milk that American Cow"

I keep hearing aboout how hated America is in Europe, Maybe they "especially the French" should think about how unpopular they are becoming here.

    They'll probably need us again.

  • @Brian54M

Dont they always! It get tedious considering we have to clean up thier mess in the Gulf of Mexico and STILL we get critized for the leak and explosion.

  • @RRydnew its all over the world, I dont blame americans.

I dont blame anyone, well ok. i blame people in power who are corrupt.

R maybe just the people who keep them in power...

  • we haven't managed a Hitler...lol this is funny yet he is speckin the truth

  • Right ON Jim.

  • I loved this clip
