  • "Alex Turner has said there are presently no plans for him to make another album with his side project band The Last Shadow Puppets" Source: contactmusic

  • alex turner's a legend <3

  • muy buena!!!!

  • If you ignore the singing, this sound like it could've been a Muse song..

  • You're wrong.

Perhaps the notes played by Miles sound like "Knight Of Cydonia" with the vibrato but even we have to ignore the singing it couldn't be a Muse song.

  • They are great live.

  • Amazing song! yeah i love it

  • @TheKookyKooksFreak Martin GT-65

  • Comment removed

  • it is a gretsch

  • Singer songwriter Stephen Fretwell on the bass guitar !

  • bueniismo el video....saludos desde bolivia

  • It's not about one band copping another but both bands being inspired by the same thing: western. And in case Alex and Miles took the reference from Knights of cydonia... good for them, they got such great taste in music!

  • this song is inspired by Scott Walker not Muse, OK.

  • Drums - Muse

    Vocals - Shadow Puppets

    Guitar - Shadow Puppets

    Bass - Shadow Puppets

    Orchestra - Shadow Puppets

    'nough said

  • you are entitled to have your opinion as false as it may be.

in terms of making an impartial case you fail.

i doubt you have the knowledge of music theory to evaluate wether there are similarities.

just saying "it's obvious" just means it sounds obvious to you, it is still a very personal (and wrong) statement.

So you might wanna stop arguing repeating the only argument "i hear it, it is obvious".

your argument about Alex having heard KoC and what you make of it is paranoid.

  • Yea they sound the same but muse are wank

  • Great performance!

  • Face it people - the song sounds like Knights of Cydonia. And all the thumbs down my comment receives will not change that. Its iritating to see everyone deny the very obvious similarities. Both are western inspired, and Miles Kanes guitar playing is exactly the same as Matt Bellamy' in KoC - the single-picked notes which are then wobbled with the tremolo arm. Instead of denying it nd giving my comment thumbs down, y not go watch live footage of KoC. If still not convinced state WHY u dont agree

  • Easily wound up yeah?

Next you're going to say Dani California sounds like Last Dance with Mary Jane ...

    idiot - Chill out.

  • Mate, don't call me an idiot. It isn't very nice at all. I wasn't attacking anyone - why do I deserved to be attacked? I actually like this song very much, and I love the Arctic Monkeys, which is obviously fronted by Alex Turner. I'm just annoyed that people deny something that is at least justifiable, if not completely true. And am i wrong? Does this song sound absolutely NOTHING like KoC? As for your little proposal, I don't care much for the Chili Pepper's newer album anyway.

  • All i'm saying is, everything in western music takes influence and can sound the same etc etc. You think Beethoven just produced this brilliant music without influences or exposure? I'm saying, you're making a point about nothing it doesn't matter, does it?

  • because you seem to be an ignorant bastard.

  • watched the video, maybe theyre using the same technique, but fuck, what do you wnat to say? They are copying the style of muse? lsp sound much more british.

  • Look, I'm not saying they are definitely ripping off KoC. I just find it a bit irritating when people are like "wtf, this song sounds NOTHING like KoC, TAotU is TOTALLY different!" even though there are very obvious musical similarities - and the fact that Alex Turner supported Muse with the Arctic Monkeys in 2006. Hmmm.

Whether you think those similarities are pure coincidence or not is up to you. I really do like the song anyway, and I love Alex Turner/Arctic Monkeys.

  • It quite sounded like you wanted everybody to believe theyre copying muse...^^

  • What I actually wanted was for people to be open minded - at the very least - to similarities that I believe are definitely there. As I said, I like both songs, and I like Alex Turner.

  • YOu should write that then. harhar^^

  • Yes there are similarities, both songs are western-themed. that's it. ever heard Ennio Morricone? you'll find his guitar sound to be very much the same as both KoC and this one. No, the last shadow puppets didnt rip off Muse or anything, both artists just got inspired by western music, which is awesome.

  • Ever heard of Ennio Morricone? "Once Upon A Time In The West" is one of the greatest Western films I have ever seen, thank you.

What makes me susicious about the whole thing is that Arctic Monkeys supported Muse at various gigs in 2006/07, notably the Reading & Leeds Festival. Alex Turner would easily have KNOWN about KoC. Do you honestly think that when he and Miles Kane were writing this song, he never once considered Muse's most recent single, which he probably heared while backstage?

  • Meh, I've just posted almost the same thing, haha. I didn't see your comment, my bad. Oh, and btw, I completely agree.

  • what type of guitar does Miles use? sounds good. is it a martin?

  • this may be influenced by muse, but thats no need to go slagging off one other great band just because you like this one. i like both bands, just try to enjoy the music :)

  • to settle this the drumming a trumpets are a bit like knights of cydonaia. But they are very different bands and have there own styles.

Personnally i love muse and think TLSP are pretty good, prefer the artics.

  • Miles looks like he's about to eat the mike.

  • muse? yeah i guess the drumming sounds the same but they are totally different bands! The vocals couldn't be more different. TLSP and Muse are both awesome amazing bands but it's not a radiohead video so you can't be comparing muse

  • exelent!!! i love you. cool!!!

  • yeah!! muse is bad

  • alex turner!!

  • @yoyinski and miles kane !! :-)

  • Muse???????? hahahahahahahahahaha

  • yes

    knights of cydonia

  • i can understand you think this is knights of cydonia, if you don't know the song very good, it has a very very very little part that sounds a bit the same!

But, this is not muse, this is alex turner, a guy that has the talent to make amazing music!

  • amazing band !!!

  • they are so great

    i love them

    miles !!!

  • fuck off with that muse shit

  • get a grip the song sounds nothing like muse

  • I always wondering how a band singing live are they good or not...

But this one is great they can singing live really amazing i love it

  • Epic!! Absolute Genius!!

  • Miles has two Martin electric guitars? The lucky swine.

  • Ones Alex's.

  • sounds like <knights of cydonia" by muse.

  • fuken epic man!

  • Great stuff! turn down the speed and re-tool a bit and these guys have the bond

    gig!

  • A quality retro sound. Reminds me of the moody blues. These guy need to give lessons to oasis.

  • Yes lol , oasis sucks, this is awesome

  • cool song

  • Why are people comparing them to muse? fuck muse

  • have a guess lol

  • Well if you on about nights of cydonia then thats sounds like an iron maiden song so are we gonna compare muse to iron maiden? off topic I know but...

  • ooh i dint know that, which song?

  • Muse it's better than The Last Shadow Puppets, i like the Puppets and the intro sounds a little like Knights of Cydonia, but man who care? this song rules!!

    And Muse Rules! ;)

  • nahh, the intro sounds like the biggining of oasis-falling down. Quality song though.

  • Best album of 2008!

  • cant go wrong with alex tuner and stephen fretwell in the same band

  • is a project of Alex Turner of the band Arctic Monkeys, Miles Kane of the band The Rascals

  • yea and stephen fretwell is playin bass

  • which ones which?

    they both looke very similar

  • alex turner is standing nearest to the piano

and miles kane is next to him :)

  • What an amazing live performance.

  • is alex still with monkeys???

  • yes he is i saw them exactly 1 week ago today at the palais theatre in melbourne and all of them were in fine form especially alex turner and matt helders.

Although he has got a new hairstyle so he looks different

  • Yes he is this is just a side project. Their new album will be coming out soon. :)

  • does anybody know the release date yet?

  • I don't know but I think it's around may/june

  • They said about November

  • yeeep

  • It is possible for someone to be in more than one band. It's been known to happen once in awhile ;-).

  • ohhh, alex is so cute and hot!

  • I like them both, so y'know..

  • I think the secret to liking Muse is to pretend that Radiohead don't exist.

  • you know, i said the same thing too! muse is too similar to radiohead.

  • Muse and Radiohead aren't similar at all. The only people who say that are those who haven't given both bands enough listens. I like both bands and can safely say they are very much different... different in songwriting, live performances, style, lyrics... everything.

Why we're discussing this on a vid of Last Shadow Puppets, I don't know :D

  • i like Muse too, but i like Radiohead more. they're doing what Radiohead has done ages ago, the electronic and all. i've watched Muse performed live here in Malaysia, so, the similarities kept nagging in my head during the concert.

i don't know why we're discussing it here either. ;D, but i like Arctic Monkeys and Last Shadow Puppets too.

  • what a talent alex turner is. your looking at the future

  • You're looking at the future

  • !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)))) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • my last comment was meant to be a response to

    Forage17's comment.

  • knights of cydonia intro?

  • misirlou rip off?

  • xDDDDD, please, the only thing that I find similar between the two tracks is the beat, it's so different.

  • I thought I was the only one who thought that!

  • I guess the only difference is that Age of the Understatement doesn't suck hairy balls.

  • I noticed the similarities in the intro, but the song stands on it's own, besides I wouldn't believe Alex would ride on the success of another band, he came up with this on his own. (PS-Muse is the shit as well, these are in my top all time favorite bands) And the galloping drum beat isn't something that Muse invented with KOC, Matt did the song as a tribute to the type of music his father liked/played.

  • The song sounds like knights of cydonia because its in the same key.

  • either muse or the puppets are great bands!!!! just enjoy !!! B +ve!!!

  • what the fuck? are you all deaf? these sound absolutely nothing like muse, completely different, some of you need to get ya ears tested

  • ok. listen to knights of cydonia, buddy.

  • Yet, It doesn't..

Listen to Jackie by Scott Walker. Thats what it draws influence from.. Along with other Scott Walker tracks.

Muse probably never even entered there minds when writing this.

  • you cannot compare those two bands, unless you"re all a bunch of idiots

  • well the building up intro, the rhythm and the chord progression reminded me of knights of cydonia... sorry for apparently offending you... and maximusv1, thanks for the tip, i'll give Jackie a listen! :-)

  • good comment n lol-

  • I've read a good few of the comments made on this video and most have said how these sound like Muse.

Now, me, personally, think that's not true at all.

And i think that the people saying this, are basing the similarities this song has to Muse's, 'Knights of Cydonia'.

If you listen to more of TLSP stuff you'll see they're much more talented than Muse, and blend indie and classical nicely.

Muse wish they sounded like these.

  • I wud hav to agree with you there.

Im a fan of both bands

    BUT..

These guys blend indie wit classical beautifully

    Muse..not so much

  • If Matthew Bellamy wanted to make Muse more classical, he could do it, since he knows the classical component of music very well, lol.

Seriously, why do you fanboys keep saying "X is better than Y". Different bands, different genres, different moods, etc.

  • I think muse's sound is perfect as it is. Both bands are brilliant, just in very different ways. i prefer muse myself.

  • They are soo cooool. I love how they have mixed classical and indie in such a great way. Really hope if they do another cd. Does anyone know if they will????
