This recording by Karajan / BPO is the most acclaimed of quite a few made over the years. Karajan rarely ventured into music of the mid 20thc but with this he recorded a real winner!!

That is absolutely amazing. I love the unrelenting strings near the start and the end.

Very good performance. It is unusual music. It clearly reflects a time of war. Terror, pain, fear and a desperate resolve.In mood. similar to the music of Shostakovich / 7 th Symphony. The same relentlessly incredible power of horror.
