  • lovely version of this song,i would love to get into jazz.would you happen to have these jazz chords written down on paper id love to know what chords you used.

  • Can i have a copy of this piece pls.. jzie_jazz@yahoo.com- im a fun.. thanks

  • That is the best way that I've ever heard where did you get it from and by the way very nice playing.

  • I love the way u play it. The Melody.. Soothing..

  • very peaceful... I'd love to play this music.

  • keroppi002@yahoo.com

    PLEASE

  • If you used a lead sheet, where did you get it? If you don't mind.

  • can you please send me the sheet music? i love it!

    istickyricei@yahoo.com

  • @istickyricei if you didn,t get the sheet music yet, I have it and I can send you.

  • nice

  • Why can't i hear it!? D:

  • aww. it's sad to hear yet comforting. it always calms our heart.

  • @bwonderve it's a jazz standard lmao

  • Lovely rendition.... Check out "Gary Clark Piano" Over the Rainbow... solo piano performance worth vewing at least twice... if not more.. one of the best on youtube...

  • you were saying you may be able to email the score for this beautiful version of one of my fave songs... if so, my email address is arzuunel944@hotmail.com I've been singing this to my 2 yr old and he LOVES it, but my only piano training is basic classical and i so long to develop the confidence to improv like this. Hearing this version of a song that brings my family so much joy has given me the motivation to try and learn to play it... so any notation would be v much appreciated :) thank you

  • This is my favorite song of all time and you play it beautifully. I know its improvised but if you've ever gotten around to using your notation software to create the sheet music for it, I would love to learn your version. It gives me goose bumps every time I listen to it.

  • E' una delle più belle interpretazioni di questo brano che abbia mai sentito. Davvero commovente. Grazie!

  • a pretty classic version but nice to hear...

  • Love it!Great !

  • Very nice... I am going to steal some of the harmonies to improve my own version ;-) Thanks for that inspiration!

  • if this was played in a restaurant, casino etc. I would just go in for the music.

  • Veri beautiful!

  • any chance you have sheet music for this??

  • very relaxing music

  • Beautiful because of it's tasteful interpretation! Plenty of room to breathe!

  • Excellente!

  • This is really lovely

  • This is excellent.

  • Beautiful!!!

  • i cant hear the jazzed up part :/

  • its jazzed up in its harmonization ... jazzed up is not always "pepped" up in its rhythms. For example, usually the song starts out in eflat to cmin chord, but this arrangement goes from a-dim.7 to a d7 chord with a flat 9 added. if that makes any sense to you... its the middle tones that make it jazzed up, because the melody stays the same.

  • thank you for that great explanation---some folks just don't get what a sub chord is :)

  • @dcstudio Most people aren't highly trained musicians... so cut them a break :)

  • since 1:24 is the tempo, there's is the jazz part.

  • I dont Hear The Octave Change

  • my arrangement, from a lead sheet--no octave change. I don't remember Judy Garland singing a full octave higher at any point in the tune, I could be wrong.... you are referring to the melody? Or do you mean a modulation and not an octave change?

  • @dcstudio She started \octave change in theconcert years, as the song became more of a tragic/defiant song to her. It was her mature version.

  • That was very good. From where did you obtain the sheet music?I love it!

  • It's what we call a lead sheet--chords and melody only. Everything else is improvised, I get so many requests for this--I will try to use my notation software and email it to you--just send me your email address and I'll get it to you-thanks for the nice comment, too. :)

  • 1:56 is what I love the most about Jazz. You hear something that sounds like a mistake, get that burst of confidence when you see someone great stumble, and then the next chord comes in and your ego comes crashing back down to Earth ripped to shreds!

  • sub chords and resolutions--my friend, keeps your audience on its toes :) it's nice to put a surprise in every now and then. Very intelligent comment there, thank you.

  • well that's the power of jazz music...:D

anyway i love the vid so much.

  • I just Love this mixture of jazz with such an exquisite classical background. This is truly beauty for the ears.

  • You have exellent taste.

  • Wow awesome!! =)

  • Great playing!

    Catherine Bernasconi

  • Really enjoyed that. Thanks for sharing.

    Tommy

  • i love your version, could you hand me your sheets? because mine sucks, and you are just wonderful!

  • I like your interpretation. Much more colorful than the "straight" versions.

  • hey, really good

  • Very bright and delicate :) I'd like You to listen this beautiful song in my version :D

  • I did and gladly accepted your response--WOW you guys are just awesome--you made an absolutely beautiful recording.

  • Thaks a lot. It's nice You like it :)

  • is this in the key of the original song? im really looking for a good version of this, but if not, ill just jazz up the simple sheet music i have ahah

  • amazing! you play very well!

  • hi that was sooo goood! i love the embellishments you added to your verson of this song its beautiful! if you have sheet music and dont mind sending it, that would be amazing.. but if not thats okay!

  • good job i do like how you added the jazz colors but still clearly kept the melody in line enough cause some other people lose that and it turns to just another song with a similar progression but the sound of the tape recording or spinning or whatevers annoying

  • wow.. i played along with my clarinet.. so cool..:]]

  • nice piano !!

    beautiful sound.

  • perfect! you did a great job

  • very emotional!! great! 5*

    nice greenings,

    titania

  • Excellent man.. I made a small version of this song; and I kinda suck on piano compared to you :D.. but you could check it out if you want to..

  • Excellent. I played along with my tenor sax. Very nice indeed.

  • VERY GOOD!! that's wonderful :) i also play somewhere over the rainbow, just learned it so it's not the best, but if you'd like to watch it on my channel i'd be happy :) thanks, and good job!

  • omg. wow. amazing and i sang while you played. amazing together!!! =]

  • Its improvised knowing jazz. If you know a bit about jazz piano you can definitly play this though not exactly but you can get nice sound like jazz by changing and adding to the original chords. Its your own take on it. so unless someone writes it out in sheet format you wont find it.

  • nice man you are pro

  • she ain't no man, man!

  • Bravo!

  • Where I can find the sheet music???, it is very nice song :), and I want to play it on piano

  • so beautiful

    simple and very romantic

  • This is so beautiful. I love it. Where can i find the notes?

    Benedicte, Norway.

  • the way you play mesmerizes me.

  • Nice!

  • Hey i am on grade 5 piano and i used to play over the rainbow on grade 3 do you know where to get the piano piece?

  • Check out Bud Powell's version. It's incredible.

  • where can i find the pieces for this version or any jazz version of this song?

  • great improv! have you ever heard the george shearing arrangement? i bet youd really enjoy it, it's another jazz interperetation of over the rainbow. you can probably find it in the grade 9 rcm level of pieces.

  • I like that cricket sound in the background :))) Nice music at a summer evening with a good background :)))

  • WOW, i like you Version of this Over the Rainbow. I'm a german guy and I'm not a proffesional player here. I can only play the sound with chords from myself. I wann learn you version of this Jazz Version. Maybe you can help me. If you want, please watch my other movies. Maybe you like my music on a piano. Good Bless Steve

  • oh my goodnes. Whats that for question? Is that a electric piano? You can not hear the sound? Is that the sound like from a e-piano?

mrtyles, Please look of the wood from the stage. I can tell you, this is not a electric Piano. I promis you!

  • The newest E pianos have already a sound to a real piano very strongly resembles.

I must know it, because I have thus one!!

  • man, im so jealous... i wanna play dat song D: lol xD rly nice though xD 9/10

  • is that an electric piano?

  • :)

    :]

  • i don't like to mix jazz chord, and simple chords: it sounds either poor in some places or too complicated in others places.

You can reharmonize the last A with:

    A-7(b5)/ Ab-6/

    G-7/ B7(+9,b13) A7(+11)

  • Wow! I agree with you. You're pretty awesome to spot the necessary chords for a "full-on" jazz piece.

  • Having the hardest trouble finding this version of somewhere over the rainbow on the internet even if it means paying for it do you know where I could get get it cause i want to sing and play it!!!!!! please thanks a million!!!

  • I enjoy the way you play this piece. Its magnificent (had to find a word no one has used yet). Keep doing what you do best.

  • very beautiful and well played ;)

  • You are doing Very Great Job

  • I want this Score!!

  • This is very good! Thankyou for sharing :)

  • OMG i love this....you are so good!!!! is there anyway that you can send me the sheet music for this exact piece. you play it so beautifully

  • oh i love the tempo . its really awesome !

  • I'm dying to learn how to play that. =/

  • Knockout ! ! :-)

  • aww hey !! i love this peice ! your soo gd i luv singing to this !!! xxx i used it as my backing wen i sang my solo 4 my gcse hope u dnt mind , it made my music teacher cry and sed u play very well x

  • I'm honored--thanks so much!

  • hey what key r u playin in ?

  • Eb :)

  • do you provide the sheet music for this?

  • all I have is the lead sheet--melody and chord symbols, the rest I made up as I went along. :)

  • 5 stars!

  • i've never heard somewhere over the rainbow played with a stride, but i like it. if you get a chance, listen to dave brubeck's version from the '06 monterey jazz festival.

  • that's a great version! I love Brubeck. :) thanks! stride rainbow--it's a bit different, but oh well.

  • Yep... It`s more like pop-classic

  • its jazz ? no its klassik

  • u play this perfect!

  • nice....

  • this is nice BUT, Please listen to the Gary Clark "Over The Rainbow" solo piano version on his Simply Grand CD,,, Youll Love It!!!

  • you are rather bigheaded

  • good playing guys !!

  • nice.. have you heard eva cassidy's rendition of the song? It's simply the best ever.

  • so nice.

  • well because everybody loves this song.

  • Should check out Keith Jarrets version. Its amazing. This is nice but lacks feel

  • keith jarret is a GOD--no fair, i'm an amoeba next to him. :)

  • Nice. One suggestion, though: I think it would have been more powerful had you toyed a little with the tempo (more rubato, that is). This way it sounds a tad monotonous, despite really nice harmonies at times.

  • I like the gentleness of this, despite the number of subs. Even that cool little chord at 2:09...you'd think it wouldn't work in such a melodic piece, but it does.

  • nice:)

  • oo i love that...

  • messed up a little towards the end and a pretty easy song to improv on but still, very good job =]

  • messed up towards the end? lol--I think you just don't like my sub chords--the mediant ii-V7 at the A section is a little out there, but I like it--that's what makes this jazz. :)

  • well, by all means, post a vid of your improvisation on these changes, so you can show everyone how easy it is.

  • Squeeee it's sooo brilliantly played =D Feels christmassy lol. And yeah like Kyle said, it's great as something to listen to before bed time. Ah fuck my lack of sleep is getting to me. Freaking well played!! <3

  • Enjoyed that piece - not sure where the jazz style came in though.

  • this is jazz in the harmonic sense. i used many jazz devices to reharm the melody. Jazz isn't just right hand improvisation but also the use of substitution chords to make the changes more complex. this may not sound like art tatum, but it is jazz (and I have a degree in jazz studies, i'm tellin' the truth. :)

  • Great stuff!! sounds amazing! I love jazz :)

  • nice playin, and i like the arrangement did you do that yourself?

  • yes--I just had a chord chart and I was foolin' around with some substitutions. thanks :)

  • such soothing music--I love all your posts, what's next???? I would like to hear your take on As Time Goes By...pleeeeaaase.

    "play it again Sam"

  • Wow, that's beautiful!!! wonderfully thoughtout! I don't know if it's just me, but there are some moments that reminds me of the classic "Moon River" song. It's in there at some of the soft parts. Is it just me? I might just be naturally insane...... LOL

  • not at all, the chord progression is very similar at times :) good ear.

  • Considering we have only the 12 chromatic tones to work with, It's amazing the songwriters found so many different melodies! There are bits of all sorts of other songs in nearly every song, especially with the 'standards'. That's why Jazz musicians love them. They can 'quote' from one song whilst playing another! Great innit?

  • I just clicked through it four times in a row! Fantastic! Sweet treatment! Practically a lullaby!

  • Relaxing. i enjoyed this piece. although as a jazz pianist myself, it would of been good to see a bit of improvision in the right hand. and variation. good job though.

  • this was more of a harmonic improvisation, my friend. My goal here was the restructuring of the chord progression, applying tritone substitution, and adding altered extensions to some of the diatonic changes. I made it a point to keep the head intact as was stated in the description.

  • well i didnt read the description, i just saw "jazz piano"

  • no problem Sam, :) since you yourself are a jazz pianist as well, I was simply stating that my intention on this song was not a melodic improvisation but rather the application of common jazz harmonic devices. I have also happily accepted your video response :) nice to meet you.

  • nice to meet you too, its good to see people like myself on youtube, who have a genuine interest in jazz. not so common these days. Thanks for accepting my video response too. :)

  • YES ALL SUBSCRIBE TO THIS WOMEN!! SHE IS FREAKING AMAZING :D

  • woman*, escuse me. Wow I'm tired tonight -.-

  • *smile* you're the greatest Kyle! :) you're pretty amazing yourself.

  • Well, I'm not an amazing FUN jazz/improv teacher/pianist!

  • you'll be much more, my friend--that polonaise is sounding pretty awesome. :)

  • I mean etude...

  • I am eagerly waiting for some new music from you.. You know i can never get enough.. I love you guys!!!

  • call me peggy!!!

  • I loved it :) awesome job

    .:Daniella:.

  • wow, very pretty music, it reminds me of christmas time!!

  • thank you, my friend. check back soon--I have many more vids on the way. :)

  • Being a Brazilian I didn´t know this song until I listened to some girl singing it on American Idol. It´s a great song.

Your piano performance of this song sounds very very good too. I like it a lot.

It seems that everything on piano sounds good...lol

    Anderson

  • You meant to say "it seems that everything on piano :::from Laurie::: sounds good"

  • Saved the best sub for the last A, nice. ;)

  • ur hands r beautiful 0_o

  • Well this piece is a bit jazz oriented in the first place isn't it?

Anyways I love the nice slow, dramatic feel to it. Coming from a Jazz master yourself, this is a perfect thing to listen before going to bed! I loved when the melody came back at the end, I just don't like how it stopped! Grrrr.... hmmmm how about some jazzy christmas tunes next? Think you can handle that? ;)

  • was gonna save those 'till christmas time--but I'll get a few up. :) I don't know why my vids get cut off, same thing happened on that other one.
