Lovely rendition.... Check out "Gary Clark Piano" Over the Rainbow... solo piano performance worth vewing at least twice... if not more.. one of the best on youtube...
you were saying you may be able to email the score for this beautiful version of one of my fave songs... if so, my email address is arzuunel944@hotmail.com I've been singing this to my 2 yr old and he LOVES it, but my only piano training is basic classical and i so long to develop the confidence to improv like this. Hearing this version of a song that brings my family so much joy has given me the motivation to try and learn to play it... so any notation would be v much appreciated :) thank you
This is my favorite song of all time and you play it beautifully. I know its improvised but if you've ever gotten around to using your notation software to create the sheet music for it, I would love to learn your version. It gives me goose bumps every time I listen to it.
its jazzed up in its harmonization ... jazzed up is not always "pepped" up in its rhythms. For example, usually the song starts out in eflat to cmin chord, but this arrangement goes from a-dim.7 to a d7 chord with a flat 9 added. if that makes any sense to you... its the middle tones that make it jazzed up, because the melody stays the same.
my arrangement, from a lead sheet--no octave change. I don't remember Judy Garland singing a full octave higher at any point in the tune, I could be wrong.... you are referring to the melody? Or do you mean a modulation and not an octave change?
It's what we call a lead sheet--chords and melody only. Everything else is improvised, I get so many requests for this--I will try to use my notation software and email it to you--just send me your email address and I'll get it to you-thanks for the nice comment, too. :)
1:56 is what I love the most about Jazz. You hear something that sounds like a mistake, get that burst of confidence when you see someone great stumble, and then the next chord comes in and your ego comes crashing back down to Earth ripped to shreds!
sub chords and resolutions--my friend, keeps your audience on its toes :) it's nice to put a surprise in every now and then. Very intelligent comment there, thank you.
we're going to play a theatre and i am the pianist and i'm looking for the sheet music of this song!!!
it would be wonderful if you could send me the sheet music of this wonderful song!!! i really need this!!! in an email would be great!!! can you please think about it and let me know something please??...
is this in the key of the original song? im really looking for a good version of this, but if not, ill just jazz up the simple sheet music i have ahah
hi that was sooo goood! i love the embellishments you added to your verson of this song its beautiful! if you have sheet music and dont mind sending it, that would be amazing.. but if not thats okay!
good job i do like how you added the jazz colors but still clearly kept the melody in line enough cause some other people lose that and it turns to just another song with a similar progression but the sound of the tape recording or spinning or whatevers annoying
VERY GOOD!! that's wonderful :) i also play somewhere over the rainbow, just learned it so it's not the best, but if you'd like to watch it on my channel i'd be happy :) thanks, and good job!
Its improvised knowing jazz. If you know a bit about jazz piano you can definitly play this though not exactly but you can get nice sound like jazz by changing and adding to the original chords. Its your own take on it. so unless someone writes it out in sheet format you wont find it.
great improv! have you ever heard the george shearing arrangement? i bet youd really enjoy it, it's another jazz interperetation of over the rainbow. you can probably find it in the grade 9 rcm level of pieces.

Nice. One suggestion, though: I think it would have been more powerful had you toyed a little with the tempo (more rubato, that is). This way it sounds a tad monotonous, despite really nice harmonies at times.

i don't like to mix jazz chord, and simple chords: it sounds either poor in some places or too complicated in others places.
You can reharmonize the last A with:
A-7(b5)/ Ab-6/
G-7/ B7(+9,b13) A7(+11)

Anyways I love the nice slow, dramatic feel to it. Coming from a Jazz master yourself, this is a perfect thing to listen before going to bed! I loved when the melody came back at the end, I just don't like how it stopped! Grrrr.... hmmmm how about some jazzy christmas tunes next? Think you can handle that? ;)
