  • He was accepted into Harvard because of his grades; he was smart. He went to Harvard because they gave him enough financial assistance to make it possible. He also went to a Manhattan high school that was a very good public school, in those days at least.

  • Excellent. American and French revolutions need to be contrasted more often to illustrate why Government is not the answer, but a moral and civil society is required...

  • T Sowell will never be considered PC in educated circles. There are too many government sponsored funds at stake for beuaruocrats to bow down and embrace private enterprize.

  • I'd consider myself a loose-"Mill-ian" Libertarian. This is probably one of the best quick-critiques of him I've heard.

If only more Republicans were like Sowell, the right could have the dynamic exchange of ideas we all want.

  • Difference is "to the liberals who left messages here" conservatism has been around for thousands of years, liberalism has been around a mere 150years at best. Degeneration of societies great as they may have been, has been precluded by some form of liberal nonsense, that didn't work. I say lets go with what works!

Tyranny has always been the norm, until the United States came into being.

  • I finally found words worth listening to.

  • 5:18 accurately defines the state of family court today in America

  • He explains it sowell. :o

  • Thomas Sowell is the man.

  • Brilliant. Every liberal should watch this. Conservatives already sense this sort of thing even if they don't verbally express it. It's the wisdom of the ages versus the Harvard law faculty.

  • the response at 3:55 is perfect.

THIS MAN IS A GENIUS. There must be something in the name THOMAS.

    Thomas Jefferson ring a bell?

  • @asleeperj I love Mr. Sowell's interviews, and he is very astute and intelligent. However, he possesses something far more valuable than "genius"... common sense!

  • Thomas Sowell is a rare mind, read his books if you have not and embrace real wisdom.

  • What is that supposed to mean?

So, you have proved that stupid people can read?! Sarah Palin's poor choices do not reflect Sowell in any way.

  • Palin is one of the strongest representatives of the constrained vision in national politics.

  • Sarah Palin reads Thomas Sowell.

  • This is the best book I ever read. It's a profound contribution to the understanding of human nature. Later, he'd rename the constrained vision the "tragic vision" and the unconstrained, the "vision of the anointed".

  • Steven Pinker's book contains an interesting explication of Sowell's competing visions and how they play out politically. Pinker, an evolutionary psychologist, seems to agree with Sowell's premise and that the more we learn about human nature (through our genes, for example) the righter people like Sowell appear to be. Unfortunately, almost all of our academic institutions still operate under the discredited assumptions of the Utopian vision.

  • Oh, the Pinker book I was referring to above is "The Blank Slate."

  • A brilliant, brilliant man whose writings are top favorites at our home.

  • Tom Sowell should seriously run for prez

  • He is an intelligent, moral, gracious man. The people of our country are liberals, and liberalism is a mental and moral disorder; ergo, it would be impossible for him to be elected.

  • Actually, Sowell is more "classical liberal". The term "liberal" has been distorted today to describe what is ACTUALLY "fascist".

  • Haha. You know not what you say, sir. Read the Founding Fathers documents to understand the intent of the Constitution rather than imposing your views on the definition of a political party. The Founding Fathers never intended a party be so foolish as to name themselves "liberal". The moniker is not American. At best you can call yourself progressive which is a quote from the Fathers; but in no way is "liberal" American.

  • @jscottupton

    fascist? no. social democratic, yes.

  • Agreed. Too bad he's almost 80.

  • so wat?! Its not like hes lost his marbles or anything.... Hes a hell of a lot better than tha last couple of clowns

  • @danoftherepublic How about his admirer Clarence Thomas? Assuming he'd be willing to go down as the first person to ever leave the Court for POTUS. Howard Taft became a SCJ after his presidency, so it's not COMPLETELY out of the realm of possibility.

  • @danoftherepublic If he weren't 81 years old, I would agree.

  • Excellent! The book is also excellent.

  • wiiiiiiiiiiidddddddeeeeeescccreeeeeennnnnnn

  • Dead on, as usual.

  • I've read the book, it's great.
