Thank you for sharing... I'm going to subscribe... I'm a recent grade of the Social Service Worker-Georontology program... You are very insightful! Thanks for sharing Peter!
That was a gripping story. I'm very early 40s and have always felt compelled to visit people in nursing homes, even though I'm sure itd be awkward for me. Your story encourages me to consider it further and hopefully one day I'll reach out to those lonely souls and make a difference in their life. I LOVE YOU!!!
You're the best, Peter....Every single video is entertaining....How do you do it? You could have, and still could have a career in television....I'd love to watch shows produced by you!!
Very interesting writing! And I love the music in the background! I love how classical music can connect retired people to some one barely out of highschool.
Now to get the old folks to listen to metal *evil grin*
I really injoyed your story...It seems sad that for many this is not fiction at all. When I was a child I watched a TV show called Waltons Mountain...I liked that the older members of family stayed with their children. However now the trend is to go to live in retirment homes..for years I offered to care for my older family..they could live with me..or I would come to them. I did not understand them wanting to live in retirment homes, and still dont. thanks good work
The hardest part of getting old is losing the people you love. I have lost my son, father and friends. But I am very blessed to be able to say I am getting older. God Bless you friend.
My mom is a year younger than you and my dad five years older. They are moving into an apartment from the house they've lived in for 35 years. They are experiencing some of the same feelings you outline in your story. I will forward them (and my brother this video).
I did not have the pleasure to know either of my grandpas; you gave me a taste of how it would have been like. I thank you. Please, keep the videos coming.
You are a delightful man, and oh to the point. I love older people and have worked with them for almost 12 years now. I've been their confidant many times over with just the same concerns. It doesn't give me much to look forward to in my so called Golden Years. So we make all we can now of this thing called life. May God richly bless you, sir from now on.
Your story touched me greatly. Even though your story is fiction, it happened to my grandmother. The house she had been living in for 40 years was totally renovated - while she was still living there but unable to protest. Then she was sent to a nursing home where she quickly became very ill and died a short time afterwards. I promised my mom that I wouldn't send her away to a nursing home when she gets older.
I just wanted to wish you a very happy and healthy new year! We need you on the internet. I whish I had a grandad like you cause in fact I haven´t. Please allow me to have you as my grandad!Lots of love! Thanks so much for uploading.XXX
Thank you Peter. That was a wonderful response to the question you were asked. Your opening comment on becoming childlike again often describes the way elderly are treated. As a youth I was taught to respect and honor elderly family members. That seems to be a lost lesson now.
wow, its great you do this! I wonder...do you ever wish you could go back in time, or is there any thing you wish you could have done before you got to your age?
Peter, excellent stuff. I'm curious; as a retiree, do you wish you would have prepared more for your retirement years? Saved up more money? Purchased a particular house, moved somewhere in particular, done something prior to being older? I both fear and look forward to my own retirement -- I hate the thought of being unprepared for it, however.
You just keep getting better and better all the time Peter You ARE published Peter. When you post a video, you ARE publishing it and I enjoy so much your posts. Happy New year Peter. Hugs to you...
This made me cry! Wow though, amazing writing! If there is one thing I have to look forward to when I do get old (Just going to be 20 in a month) is the hope that my writing will have matured to anything like that. Wow!
i like it like that, it is lighter (even though i miss the pictures on the wall ;) but since you are still working on it i will wait and see what you'll make out of it... i am looking forward to seeing it done =)
Just found you on AOL! You're a STAR! I love your videos! You have a wonderful, gentle energy. So nice to see another senior making videos. Wish I'd have gotten my father on here before he passed. The stories he told about his life.... xo Jillian
I had to give up my home and I have a 14 yr old Son. Though I wouldn't have it any other way. (Except for the pain.) I am happy to see that you are still able to be at your home also. It is sad how so many children do place their Parents / Grandparents into retirement homes because of their own selfishness. They seem to forget how many years those same people took care of them. They could have put into a home too,...
My Grandmother had a stroke in March, which she has recovered from completely. My Grandfather took a awful spill about 3 weeks before that. If I hadn't been here for either one of those things neither one of them would be here today. It's hard, I won't lie. As I have a very bad back and I suffer on most days with severe pain....
Dear Peter, Thank You so very much for that enlightening video. I currently reside with my grandparents who are: My Grandfather will be 92 at midnight (Now that's an old New Year's Baby! lol) and my Grandmother who turned 88 on Armistice Day. If I hadn't come here in the summer of "05" to stay with them, they would have been put into a retirement home and maybe even (God forbid), gone by now....
Eureka made it. You were right, I cleared some 'junk' it did the trick. Well worth the wait, super story. Wish you all the best of health and happiness for the New Year. Keep 'em coming!
Peter, you've done it again. Only this time you brought me to tears. Three or Four years ago my grandmother moved to a nursing home and although she has an "apartment" I know that leaving her home was the hardest thing... sometimes we younger folks just don't stop to understand. Thank you!
I have been trying to watch your video as usual, but after 5mins it cuts out. It happened last evening and again this morning...glitch in the system? Any suggestions.
In 1945, a young girl named katu lata kulu came over to America in a grey boat from Africa. A mysterious man killed her by cutting the word "LATUALATUKA" into her back. now that you have read this message, she will come to your house on a full moon and steal your soul unless you follow these directions:
I hate to offend. I thought this guy died. I thought his wife was one here to wish all his fans farewell. Was that somebody else. If it is somebody else I wish you a long hearty life.
I read an article years ago, it was fabulous; it was an interview with the oldest people in the world...it was my observation that with each interview, they all had something they enjoyed at least once a day (whether it be a hershey kiss or a glass of scotch) they all had one thing to look forward to each day...is that the answer? to a long life?
Have a Happy New Year Peter...love the story...and the way the glasses magically appear on your face...had to rewind the video and watch that part again.
Dear geriatric 1927... I've had you on my Subscription List because I think you will have many interesting things to talk about and share. Therefore, I'm committing myself to go back and watch ALL your videos from #1 through #50 and beyond. I will definitely comment as I go along. Sincerely... Debbie :-)
your story was so touching. I worked in a "old folks home" for over 13 years and loved the residents so much. It was always sad when they couldnt do for themselves anymore and didnt get many visitors. I loved to be able to talk to them and hear their stories. I always loved helping them. Have a good New Year Peter. You're a special man(grandad)!
This was a poem we can really relate to! As we look around we wonder what things will end up at the swap meet! It saddens me to see people's photographs of their life there! Mrs. GeezerArt
Since I'm one of those people who buy stuff at flea markets, I just hope someone enjoys my stuff when I'm gone as much as I've enjoyed having it around. I like the idea that most of my stuff is used and has a history, even if I don't always know that history.
One thing I have now, too, is a Living Will and a Physician's Directive. I want to stay as independent as I can for as long as I can but no longer.
Was this story a result of cleaning our bureau drawers? Sometimes I get on a cleaning binge and think that the particular project deserved a story of its own.
Another great vid with a very small bit of editing your videos are quite publishable and could provide you with additional financial security in future years.
I have noticed that you speak so optimistically but when you write your stories about little boys and now this older person the character is not quite as chipper | It's like your alter ego expressed | I love it all don't stop, just wanted to offer that observation | Sorry about the pipes, the system does not like periods |
All I can say is thank goodness for modern medicine which will keep folks like you around for a long time. I hope to grow old myself listening to your soft, comforting, even voice speak to me from thouands of miles away.
Ha Ha! I like your toy! I want one too! Happy New Year Peter! Check out my new video I made about our second big dump of snow this holiday season. We are snowed in.
Hi Grandpa :) I just want you to know I consider it a joy and an honor to help support my parents as they get older. It is a sacrifice, but never a burden. I love them with all my heart, and as they sacrificed for me when I was little, so will I sacrifice for them as they need ME.
You totally cracked me up with that cow! I would love to have one the same! Being in Switzerland and all - with the cow and the yodling and the "actions"! Hahaha! You have been vlogged for that :-)
I really love your writing. It is so pensive. Even though I am "only" 44, I have also wondered what will happen later on. I also worry about if my mother or parents-in-law will ever have to go into a home. I hope not!
Thank you Peter. I'm so glad you're still in your own home and I thought your story was poignant and sad, but very thoughtful and perceptive. Happy New Year, and many of them!
Now there's a dumb comment if ever I've heard one, Me, not watch Peter's videos? You don't know who I am I suppose? Peter and I are good friends and I NEVER do that "first" thing - it was a joke
You win the "First person to make an udderly joke" contest, there's no prize but I just said to Peter an hour ago "I wonder who'll be the first to make an udder joke?" hehe
Thank you for sharing... I'm going to subscribe... I'm a recent grade of the Social Service Worker-Georontology program... You are very insightful! Thanks for sharing Peter!

I hope not!
Thanks for this thought-provoking story, Peter.

Thank you Peter. I'm so glad you're still in your own home and I thought your story was poignant and sad, but very thoughtful and perceptive. Happy New Year, and many of them!

Poignant. That was the word I was looking for. His stories are indeed very poignant, as is the way he reads them.
