Because Annie is the daughter, not a lover and they aren't real animals but toys (apart from possibly the horse)

I discovered Kate Rusby quite recently and I listened to her on youtube and very soon purchased her DVD live from Leeds. I went to her concert in Halifax, When she came out on stage I was as emotional as she was, she is wonderful, I tried to buy her album Make The light but I could not get near. I had to get it on Amazon. I wanted to say that Kate Rusby fans seem to be the best kind of people. Wonderful company.

above the like button youcan see the words 'the title track from kate rusby's 2007 album 'Awkward Annie'. to the right of those words there is a box with 2 downward pointing things (look like arrow heads). if you click that a larger panel will drop down revealing the lyrics.

@dogstar75 I think what piratedress (and myself for that matter) would like to know is why is the song called "Awkward Annie", when the words "awkward annie" don't appear in the song. This Annie doesn't seem to be very awkward, more like sadistic.

Never the less, I adore this song, and I thank you very much for posting it.

Went to see Kate last night in Newark (UK, not NJ) and she did this song, along with a load of new stuff from the upcoming album. She really has a fantastic voice recorded and live. Her husband's pretty good as well!
