  • i love lion king ...... but i bet you can tell (:

  • The sound is out of sync.

  • This was a God movie! And so was the sequel! (That's right, sequel haters. Come get me.)

  • What year was this made?

  • @natsfan7 1994, its sequels in 1998 and 2004

  • I do like the fact that these filmmakers were very sincere about their work. And it definitely shows in many of Disney's movies, not just the Lion King, but so many other animated classics. Maybe that's why those movies never die, it's because of the sincerity of the people behind the camera.

  • I love the fact that they didn't think it would do that well & it went on to be so big & successful. I love The Lion King and Pocahontas was just an okay movie for me.

  • ..."thats is the dummest story in my life" 0:56

yeah, it may be. But it was originially a famous peice of literature. Its called "Hamelt".

  • I can't believe THE LION KING was the underdog movie, THE LION LING is the best Disney movie!!!!

  • I'm sorry... SIMBA IS NOT SPAGETTI! lol

but seriously this movie IS my childhood! my favorite Disney movie ever!!! no you know what? my favorite MOVIE ever!

  • I love the Lion King, but I think they should be honest, the story wasn´t new, it was based on Kimba's story. It was practically the same, with a parrot for Zazu, stampedes, monkeys and hyenas. The only thing new I guess are Timon and Pumba, I don't remeber characters like them in Kimba.

  • @Mangara99 Puh-lease. It's not the story, that people complain about resembles Kimba, it's the characters, early development art, but not the story. His father dies; that's where the similarities in story end. The story is most obviously based off Hamlet. Of course, the characters are all ripped from Kimba in terms of art style, but that's due to... a lot of complications in early development.

  • O_o Am I the only one that thought that the A-Team worked on 'The Lion King' and the B-Team worked on 'Pocahontas'?

Not saying that Pocahontas is worse, but I preferred the Lion King, in animation and story.

  • @WarriorcatsShadowfur No you're not, I fully agree with you. I think that's what they were saying too in the video, just in a nice way.

  • ...amen ^^

  • Origins? And no mention of Kimba the white lion? :P

  • @TheFerrymanSong Definitely the real origin, hell they were even too lazy to change the name completely... Kimba to SImba. good job guys. lol

  • @AppletailTV You wish it was that easy to just change names like that. There's a lot of reasons Disney probably changed it, and all of them seem complicated. But at least Simba is Swahili for, "lion".

  • @Gernam12 Dude I come up with dozens and dozens of names for my own characters, EASILY. they should have at least decided to change the general sound of the thing, it really isn't hard at all.

  • @AppletailTV That's because you work for yourself. This is a collective project with a hell of a lot of money behind it. Besides, Swahili pun is better since Leo is out of the question too (Japanese name of Kimba: go figure.)

  • @Gernam12 If anything, it'd be easier to come up with names with other input besides one person, lol

Although I guess considering that they didn't even care much about the project/didn't think it was going to work was part of the problem :U

  • @AppletailTV I guess so. You know, I find it funny Leo's name was changed to Kimba instead of Simba, just barely missed the pun.

  • @Gernam12 Leo IS pretty unoriginal.. xD

But yeah... If it was unintended, that is pretty close!

I just saw that they remade Kimba in 2009 I'll have to watch that o:

  • Ok, Lion Kinh has their own Broadwayshow, Youtubers are making AMVs with the movie, and it became so popular they made a sequal, which was very good

  • pocahontas was good...but lion king is one of or the BEST disney films!!!! it's interesting how they thought lion king was going to suck, but i wish i was there to see the looks on their faces when it became a huge success!!!! XD

  • Well, we can see how wrong they were. They thought this movie was going to be to a total failure but it turned out to be the biggest animated film of all time. The irony! :D

  • Technically the story lion king used wasn't all that new; it pretty much was just a re-telling of Osiris' murder/ Hamlet.

  • thank god they decided to go with it.......GO B TEAM!

  • wait chris sanders made lilo and stitch , my fave disney movie :)

  • I hated Pocahontas. It was a story everyone and their mother had already heard. Lion King rocks!

  • @Progo35 me too i hated Pocahontas

  • @Skunk90210 I don't. I love both this movie and Pocahontas differently.

  • I don't believe it. They SERIOUSLY thought no one would like TLK??? This film is the best one Disney ever made!!!

  • if only they'd kept mheetu, I think he would've been a great character.

  • @crazyJester1998 who's mheetu?

  • @sofymo *gasp* You don't know Mheetu?! He's only THE BEST character ever!! He's nala's super-cute little brother and I love him to BITS!!!! *drool*

  • @crazyJester1998 Lol what the heck, no I've never heard of this person, how did you exacty? :S

  • @sofymo Look him up and look a pictures of him. he's soo cute!! You'll fall in love with him, definatly!! :D

    you can't not love him!!

  • @crazyJester1998 ahh he is cute! but i still wanna know... HOW IS HE EXISTING?!? He wasnt in any of the movies and yet he's considered an important character?... WTF! Where did he come from?

  • @sofymo Well, because he was MEANT to be in the movie. But they cut him out D: and noone doesen't love him so he's very important xD

  • @crazyJester1998 ohh i see ! hm that would have been a lovely character :) but perhaps they thought he just wasnt an important part of the plot or something :(

  • @sofymo yeah, I think thats what it was. Scar was meant to do the gorge thing to mheetu with teenage simba saving him, but they cut mheetu out and did it with cub simba and mufasa instead. He would've made a great character though, and a great scene!

  • its funny how everyone thought it was going to be a huge failure, but The Lion King is Disney's most successful film EVER

  • I always loved animal stories over human stories growing up. Animal stories, more often than not, are fused strongly with a quest tale -- trying to find one's purpose and that, to me, is far more important than anything human -- mostly involving princes and princesses and all that.

  • @Victim5and5Villain Exactly! That's why, personally, I think Brother Bear is one of the best movies made during the 00s. And that's overall, including adult films.

  • @SciFiFangirlsFTW Oh my, yes. I remember I absolutely sobbed in Brother Bear. It was just crazy the heart strings they pulled in that movie.

  • @Victim5and5Villain I cried so hard, it was a while before I could look at anything bear related without getting sniffly. =')

  • Sorry that's commercial, not commertial.

  • (cont.) They do well because they give people something new at a time when companies are still stubbornly flogging dead horses because they're 'commertial', not realising that they're only still selling well because there's nothing else that people would rather have.

  • You can't sell animals? Do they not know their audience at all? Lol. Kids love animals. They love cute animals and powerful animals, and lions are both. Lion King characters are among those that are ALWAYS on sale as soft toys at the Disney store, because lion cubs are cuddly. As for people not believing in it, thank goodness they didn't. It's my observation that the biggest successes are almost always the ones no one believed in - LK, Harry Potter, Muppets, Star Wars... (cont...)

  • Maybe Disney needs to rethink what will become of animal movies. I think kids would rather prefer animals over humans, i know i would!

  • This movie was released in my birth year and has ALWAYS been a favorite of mine. Without it, I definitely wouldn't be dreaming the things I am or wanting to be an animator myself one day. I'm so glad for the "B-team" completing this movie. Wonderful wonderful, wonderful~

  • doesn't the pic on 2:33 look exactly like one of kimba chars? XD

  • What about "Oliver and Co."

  • bambie in africa...

    O_o

  • "Bambi in Africa..." That's how Tezuka describe Kimba!

  • The lion king made me who i am today so if they didnt make it i dnt know who id be .. The greatest movie of all time ...<3

  • Hehe, they thought this movie wouldn't be a success but man were they wrong! It was a HIT!

  • I'm so glad they decided to make the Lion King.

  • my favorit movie as a kid, and a young adult! this movie is defidently a sucess, you even know how much fanart/fursuits are made by fans because of this movie?? *alot* lolz

  • Ha see what happens when u try new things? XD silly animators but i would think the same thing

  • New? Pffffft. Kimba the White Lion, anyone?

  • Cute little vid, but your audio seems to be out of sync.

  • Hurray for the underdog!

  • They were so silly! How could they think Pocahontas (about a historical event) would entertain children more than the Lion King? (A musical extravaganza with cute talking animals)

These days, that's fairly common knowledge!

  • @StrongGlad999 well think about no one knew lion king was going in another part on this behind the scene they it was bamlet, bambi with a twist hamlet, which along w/ the silly name probably felt like a repeat while pocahontas 1st animated feature movie based on the true story

  • They all stole it from Kimba the White Lion by Osamu Tezuka

Still a great movie, but I would like Osamu get Roylaties

Who gave a crap about Pocahontas, Lion King is awesome

  • @Tacom4ster well actually i heard that lion king was either before kimba or they were like....in the same field or something but hey sometimes great minds think alike and maybe they didnt even notice the other team was doing something alike either way both lions came out nicly

  • @CimCity13

Kimba the white lion was made first. It started as a japanese comic made in 1950, and then turned into a cartoon in the mid 1960's.

  • @Tacom4ster Osamu's been dead for years. >_>

  • I remember when I saw the Lion King it totally touched me and inspired me. The story was beautiful - but I had originally thought it was semi based on Hamlet. Pocahontas was not my favorite, not because it wasn't historically accurate. I'm not really sure why. To me it just wasn't as full of heart I guess.

  • Comment removed

  • If people didn't cause such a damn stir over Pocahontas not being 100% accurate, acting like it's the first time *any* movie ever twisted histrorical facts to suit their needs (Almost every movie does, except war films), then maybe Pocahontas would be as big as the ones before it.

  • This movie kicked pocahontas' butt!

I'm not saying i didn't like that film too but I am so glad that people decided to stick with the production of the Lion King......and now it's one of the most successful disney films of all time!

  • @randomandproudqueen The successful!!!! :D

  • thx

  • So they thought it was gonna be a big failure, but instead, turned out to be a success.

  • Yeah, but it changed a lot from the original into what we know and love today.

  • @Pennyadodumuss A common trend in disney movies.

  • @Pennyadodumuss It's funny how wrong you can be about your masterpeace sometimes like Tchaikovsky's Nutcraker suit.
