Sure it hurt, but it was important to me to keep going and it should've have been important to Melissa, too, especially since this was at a competition. Though I don't doubt for a second that it hurt her, I think she overreacted.

I think people are thinking this doesn't look so bad because in my opinion the clip shown is in very slow motion.....perhaps shown in normal speed can make a difference to show the speed and impact of the throw....I have no doubt the woman is in a lot of pain.

I have played dangerous and intense sports, like others, and I have and have seen players walk away from much worse.
Trust me im 12 and someone tryied hockey stopping in front of me and he missed his timing and slammed into i fell hit the ice on my cheek and flew into the boards and i got up and skated away thats nothing!

Not only did she smack her forehead on the ice, but falling with that much force on your chest & abdomen can fracture the spine, cervical to thoracic. OUCH! :(
They *have* to avoid him if he may be injured, because any movement risks worsening the injury. Leave that to the professionals, always. If he's okay (and thank goodness he was), politely ask if he wants help. Someone did come by to see if he was all right, and thankfully he was.

agreed. in case notyetpro1 isnt aware, snow is pretty soft and powdery while ice is, ya know, rock solid. it hurts, dude. while im not dismissing the dangers of snowboarding, it's just not the same.
falling into deep snow snow is like falling into a foam pit, while falling on ice hurts about as much as falling on concrete.( or worse). but snowboard jumps and half pipes are made out of ice, not soft fluffy snow, look up Shaun whites fall during practice at the x games, he hit his head so hard his helmet fell off his head, and he still got up and won the whole competition the next day

HELMETS. figure skaters dont wear helmets. that helmet is what kept him from cracking his skull wide open, but figure skaters just fall, like melissa did, and have no real way of protecting themselves. plus, snowboarders have all that padding as well. figure skaters have just those skin tight costumes.
padding? the only padding that snowboarders wear is a helmet, which did nothing to protect Shaun white because he hit the half-pipe with his chin, he got extremely lucky, he should have a broken jaw right now. any way, snowboarders are usually too stoned to feel any Payne, besides, we cant relay compare the two sports, but if you wanna see a really lucky skateboarder, look up Jake browns mega ramp fall at the x games.

It definitely looked as though she winded herself. I fell on my head in 2005 while skating and managed to get back up to skate off. An hour later I was given 20 minutes to live due to a brain haemorrage. Funny thing was I never had that much fussing around me!!

I don't think she was faking, she probably had the wind knocked out of her from landing on her chest, but the personnel have to treat any fall where the skater doesn't get right back up as a potential paralysis so they have to put her on the backboard and immobilize her just in case.

This ice is harder than concrete. Much harder actually. Ice is like glass it doesent bend it brakes and so much less of the energy from the inpact is transferred to the ground. It is all taken out on the softer object that hits it. Basic science. You dont want to fall on ice.

agreed. in case notyetpro1 isnt aware, snow is pretty soft and powdery while ice is, ya know, rock solid. it hurts, dude. while im not dismissing the dangers of snowboarding, it's just not the same.

falling into deep snow snow is like falling into a foam pit, while falling on ice hurts about as much as falling on concrete.( or worse). but snowboard jumps and half pipes are made out of ice, not soft fluffy snow, look up Shaun whites fall during practice at the x games, he hit his head so hard his helmet fell off his head, and he still got up and won the whole competition the next day

there you go. HELMETS. figure skaters dont wear helmets. that helmet is what kept him from cracking his skull wide open, but figure skaters just fall, like melissa did, and have no real way of protecting themselves. plus, snowboarders have all that padding as well. figure skaters have just those skin tight costumes.

padding? the only padding that snowboarders wear is a helmet, which did nothing to protect Shaun white because he hit the half-pipe with his chin, he got extremely lucky, he should have a broken jaw right now. any way, snowboarders are usually too stoned to feel any Payne, besides, we cant relay compare the two sports, but if you wanna see a really lucky skateboarder, look up Jake browns mega ramp fall at the x games.

It definitely looked as though she winded herself. I fell on my head in 2005 while skating and managed to get back up to skate off. An hour later I was given 20 minutes to live due to a brain haemorrage. Funny thing was I never had that much fussing around me!!

I don't think she was faking, she probably had the wind knocked out of her from landing on her chest, but the personnel have to treat any fall where the skater doesn't get right back up as a potential paralysis so they have to put her on the backboard and immobilize her just in case.

This ice is harder than concrete. Much harder actually. Ice is like glass it doesent bend it brakes and so much less of the energy from the inpact is transferred to the ground. It is all taken out on the softer object that hits it. Basic science. You dont want to fall on ice.

well that was a slow-mo :) ... when u fall on your chest like that u might damage ur ribs and usually it will be hard to breathe caus of the impact on the lungs (from personal experience lol) and it does send u in a shock...

Anybody who says that dose not hurt at all is crazy.Those kind of falls even hurt in hockey.I got triped by my goaly and fell right on my chest.I tryed to keep going but after a min. i had to get off the ice i was in so much pain. Now imagien that without pads, going faster and falling from a higher leavel.I only had a burised rib!!!

It probably hurt more because she took the crash to the ribs, if you watch her head only touches the ground after she is sliding, and it is her head, not her face.

I do triple jumps all the time and I had worst falls, and you cant just lay and sit on the floor to cry. she shoulded continue, like the chinese pairs at the olympics, THAT was a truly hard fall, and they WON silver! Thats courage!!

The video didn't show how fast they were moving. If you're rotating at a high speed and your partner loses his center, it's VERY PAINFUL.
Don't assume that just because it 'looked' like a minor fall, that it was. It was enough to take them out of the competition, which is the last thing any elite athlete wants.
