Oh my gosh! A pigeon that young should be fed kaytee baby food, it's for baby birds. I am a pigeon fancier. It mixes with water. That poor bird. You should take heed of your own words, you need to read more.
@metallicarocks123 yes, i was very novice. as you can tell from the name of my channel... (new)pigeonguy. I was just making ends meet with what i had. I do use the kaytee food now when i get in the same predicament. this little guy did survive though and was quite the homing bird.
@newpigeonguy Just a little info! :3 Parrots, starlings, finches, and a few other birds are birds that don't need grit because they takes the shells off the seeds by themselves before they eat them.
Birds digest seeds easily, but some need the grit to break the shells down.
I've had that same issue already with covering the loft. I did notice that my bird isn't feathering as nice as others. Will that change for the next season or will it always be poorly feathered?
Think of Racing Homers as: The Same Pigeons. Especially in the nest. Never make changes, birds under 4 days have not enzymes to digest. Also early hand fed birds often feather poorly. In winter I put bags on windows during a storm. I flew on 1st warm day & birds would not land until I took bags off & gave the loft it's eyes back lol.
thanks! i wish i found this sooner
