This game/novel is so sad. I got the snow ending my first time and I cried so hard,then when I got to the diary I cried worse than Taka. I've played this game so much now I can't stop. It's so amazing and it's so sad :( it makes you feel so much. you laugh and cry and feel the same pains and joy the characters do. I never felt like this playing a game ever. While this is a simple virtual novel (I only played 2 my entire life, not really my thing), the story is wonderfully written. You really have to make a conscious effort to hold back the tears. A story of true love, compassion and sacrifice, this is a direct opposite to most other pornos. You will almost certainly end up trying to get the good ending!

Yes, the dialogue in this one is in English. There is no speech in Kana, but the norm in visual novel titles nowadays is (usually) for them to contain Japanese speech with English text.
I finished endings 2 and 3 and I finally unlocked the 1st ending... It's the only ending where Kana lives and the ending reminds me of "I love my sister" anime but the game has a much more happier ending than the anime i'm comparing to.
this game throws up such powerfull emotions you won't believe it untill you actually play it. I don't cry easily, and this game got me misty eye'd at several occasions.

Awseome review, it was really helpful. I've been wanting to get this game for a while now. Just two questions: Does the original Kana game have english subtitles so those of us who don't speak japanese can play it? and also will it run on a regular PS2 or do you need a japanese PS2 to run it?
Kana - Little Sister is translated into English, yes. Just be sure you're getting Kana - Little Sister and not Kana - Imouto (the Japanese title). If you're buying from a North American retailer, this shouldn't even be a concern, though. As for your second question, Kana is only available for the PC so you can't run it on a PS2 at all, Japanese or otherwise.
I've only started to play this game recently and I'm not afraid to admit that I cried a little bit (who am I kidding, I cried alot). I am pleased to know there are more to some of these bishoujo games than meet the eye. Anyone else who reads this, I also recommend "Yume Miru Kusuri - A drug that makes you dream".
If you go to the beach with Kana you are in for a sad ending that'll make you cry.
First one I got was Snow and it was so sad.

Hi, I just want to tell I came accross Kana by accident. I was on a hunt for some hentai visual novel and before making a decision I'd read a lot of reviews. Almost all of them highly praised Kana and claiming something like it's an angel among sinners, so I gave it a try. I was hoping for a good story, but what I recived was way beyond my expectations. It was the most heartbreaking and beautiful story I've ever seen on screen or read about. I couldn't believe I found it looking for hentai.
This is indeed one sad game. I actually finished it completely and I really hated ending 4 (Intellectual Ending 1), since it's so totally anti-climatic and fatalistic. The one good ending is actually also sad, since the guy still doesn't win her for himself.

i just finished this game. I its really hard for me to buy it so i downloaded a cracked copy... it had no music or sound effects and even like that, i was chocking a lot from holding my tears.
This is such a beautiful and sad game, no doubt the best story i've read to date... I doubt i'll ever find anything as touching as this.
I'll have to find the rest of the endings now but i don't know if i'll have the stomach for it.

well, you hit the nail on the head. I downloaded it because i thought it was a sexy game, but the tears really came often when i finished the game. Yea im a man, and it was the first time i cried about a fictional story, but this is so heartbreaking... omg ive got to play it again

Yes, the dialogue in this one is in English. There is no speech in Kana, but the norm in visual novel titles nowadays is (usually) for them to contain Japanese speech with English text.

I finished endings 2 and 3 and I finally unlocked the 1st ending... It's the only ending where Kana lives and the ending reminds me of "I love my sister" anime but the game has a much more happier ending than the anime i'm comparing to.

I just played through ending 2 and 3...
this game throws up such powerfull emotions you won't believe it untill you actually play it. I don't cry easily, and this game got me misty eye'd at several occasions.
the story is strong and I think that anyone old enough to see the erotic content play this
It makes you think, about life, death, deceases and unconditional affection to someone.
If you play this game, I don't care who you are, you will want Kana to live, no matter what the cost.

You should have a Cry Level on the summary. Cuz this one is definetily a 10! My god, I start crying just hearing that supersad song, dont know what its called though. I don´t think it was in this video though. I cry more playing this game, than I have ever done in years. And I almost only play FPS games.

Awseome review, it was really helpful. I've been wanting to get this game for a while now. Just two questions: Does the original Kana game have english subtitles so those of us who don't speak japanese can play it? and also will it run on a regular PS2 or do you need a japanese PS2 to run it?

Kana - Little Sister is translated into English, yes. Just be sure you're getting Kana - Little Sister and not Kana - Imouto (the Japanese title). If you're buying from a North American retailer, this shouldn't even be a concern, though. As for your second question, Kana is only available for the PC so you can't run it on a PS2 at all, Japanese or otherwise.

I've only started to play this game recently and I'm not afraid to admit that I cried a little bit (who am I kidding, I cried alot). If you go to the beach with Kana you are in for a sad ending that'll make you cry.
First one I got was Snow and it was so sad.
But I like the original designs epsecially Kana's original design she seems more human/natural/frail and doesn't look like every other anime character. The new design I don't like that much.

This is one of the best games ever.
Being a hospice worker, I totally am for this game as it educates people about hospice, death, and the ethics surrounding it. The erotic images are not obscene/unneeded, but rather enrich the plot. character development is AMAZING.
I highly recommend this game to all.

Hi, I just want to tell I came accross Kana by accident. I was on a hunt for some hentai visual novel and before making a decision I'd read a lot of reviews. Almost all of them highly praised Kana and claiming something like it's an angel among sinners, so I gave it a try. I was hoping for a good story, but what I recived was way beyond my expectations. It was the most heartbreaking and beautiful story I've ever seen on screen or read about. I couldn't believe I found it looking for hentai.

This is indeed one sad game. I actually finished it completely and I really hated ending 4 (Intellectual Ending 1), since it's so totally anti-climatic and fatalistic. The one good ending is actually also sad, since the guy still doesn't win her for himself.

at first i thought all who cried because of this are over-reacting. after i finished the game (ending 5), i was wrecked as well. nice writing/dialogue for a game. i guess one must be mature enough to really appreciate the game in its entirety.

I never played it but i was crying rivers when you were done.
I to my now regrat hate myself for this, but i looked up the endings. And for not playing the game this (seems) and fells like one of the most emotial pieces of fiction I've ever heard of.
Anyone who's not a totale idiot like myself, I'm beging you play the game.
I may not have taken the road but I saw the end and I like to think this has changed how i look on alot of things.

I agree, I stumbled on this yesturday and the fanfics My sister my strength and the still to be animated New Blooms are of incredible quality. A must watch/read for everyone who finished ending 1 of Kana - Little Sister.

I absolutely agree. The author, Darkling, was pretty much the Kana fandom representative last time I checked (which has been quite awhile). Anyway, fantastic stories.
Hm, though now that I think about it, I'm not sure I know of "New Blooms." I'll have to look into that.

It is called "Utsu-ge" or depression game.When you go to the ending,you will get a heart break for 1 week at least.
Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien is Utsu-ge as well as Kana.(Kimi-Nozo has already animated)

I almost forgot to add.. VERY WELL DONE review! It really explains in detail what this game is all about. Being a pro gamer myself, i didnt think of this genre much at first, but when i decided to go play this, I can truly say i never regret doing so at all.

My advice: PLAY IT NOW, rant / complain about it later. If you do, have a lot of time & a full tissue box handy.
