'Just come home. We just marched in we can march right out.' I know who's quote this was ...it was the quote by the man who I had the honor to know well and Mr. Gravel and Dennis are good people ....wow coming from republican lol
john, thank you for bringing out this Mike Gravel passionate moment, that was as intense as I've ever seen Mike. I thought you were just a jackass beforehand ;)
all the black folks at my school are only going for obama because he's black.(im not racist btw)THAT GETS ME SO FURIOUS!OBAMA DOESN'T KNOW WHAT HES DOING!HES GONNA MAKE GAS PRICES GO WAY UP ONCE HE MAKES THE OIL COMPANIES GIVE US MONEY!
I cannot believe Democrats are about to choose OBAMA as their nominee! To all the Democratic delegates: You STILL have a chance to change your decision and vote for Gravel!
actually I did. Thats why I asked such a provocative question. I wanted to give him an excuse to get angry and show his passion because I thought it would turn more americans on to him.
Well, in that case, great job! When I first saw you ask the question, it seemed that you were being a jerk about it, but it all makes sense for what you were trying to do. Im glad, because that was by far the best response to a question any candidate gave during the Youtube debates. I love how he said thanks for the question, I don't get many of them, ha ha. Too bad the media never really gave him a chance, considering they didn't allow him in the last 3 or so debates.
Hey, if it makes you feel any better, a few buddies of mine saw the debates and were turned on to Gravel afterwards. It was great to see him get a chance to give a passionate response, and to get a direct question. I think you were the only one out there to give him that chance. So to all the haters out there, fuck off, and too bad Gravel didn't win the LP nomination.
no matter who gets in power, the country is still fucked... economic crisis' have already began to unravel, and as far as the war... get the fuck out, you guys arent doing shit..as soon as you obtain your objective(whatever that might be), the countries just going to back to where it was before you guys interupted... seriously, you guys arent helping anyone, and you sure as fuck arent fooling anyone either

Obama is full of shit! I have never supported him. I supported Gravel all the way. What's this BS about "the time to ask how to get out of Iraq was before we went in"?? WE DIDN'T ASK TO GO IN, you doucheface! We were forced into Iraq by crazy conservatives in Congress, the neocons and Bush. 500 cities worldwide said "No!" to war in Iraq, but the gov't didn't listen at all. They thought, "Oh, well, those are just stupid far-left protestors. We know better." It's a buncha crap.
Well said, people will rarely say something so truthful. People will usually downright deny it, or go out of their way to think up reasons because the truth can be ugly sometimes.
sounds as if Gravel is too democratic and humane for america. a country that still needs corporate puppets like the candidates who have remained til the end of the primary, and who will keep on painfully contradicting democracy and freedom for the sake of the its own empires,i.e: military and capitalistic interests.
my point is, You said I need to "wake up". That implies that I actually think Veitnam was a good idea because I cannot differentiate between good and bad. However, the description clearly states that I am FOR Gravel and against war in any way. I was just acting like a smartass so they would pick my question, not because I wanted to poke holes in Gravel's statements.
Obama never answers questions, and he has the same celebrity semblance of those like Brittany Spears. Our politics have turned into some kind of 2008 reality TV show. I don't like how Mike Gravel was given only about a minute to awnser his own question yet Obama and Edwards were allowed more time to awnser. ugh, the media needs to give equal time to each candidate. GRAVEL2008!
Great question. Mike Gravel's the only one up there that never flip flops. He's the only one I trust will actually try to do what he says he wants to do.
Just remember that the baby in the mother has rights. Personally, the only time I can see abortion being allowed is if: the mother will die, the mother was raped, and if the mother does not have the financial means of supporting the baby. Extreme cases is where I can understand. I may not agree with every single thing Ron says; however, he has never corrupted his integrity. Plus, Hannity and O'Rilly hate him. Even Mike like Ron. Go to my favs.
I love you Mike Gravel. The other canadates are afraid to go out on a limb and say Viet Nam was an unecessary war and if it was unecessary the troops may have died in vain. Iraq is an unecessary war for Americans to die for. I do not understand my countries leadership at all.
They wouldn't want people to actually vote for someone they believe in! Instead they want to herd us into supporting their pre-selected, corrupt, corporate-backed choices.
Fresh on the heels of MSNBC's exclusion of Senator Mike Gravel from last week's Philadelphia debate, we now hear that CNN has cut the Senator from its November 15 debate in Las Vegas. Like MSNBC, CNN's justification comes down to one ugly factor: MONEY.
The fact is, Mike Gravel angered powerful people when he confronted Senator Clinton over Iran during last month's debate. Up to that moment the Clinton juggernaut was rolling over everyone. Now Mike is paying the price for speaking truth to power.
Clearly john, you are setting up senator gravel to fail. You can't deny that because if you are 100% with him then you would have made him explain his "national initiative" plan or his "carbon tax" goal.
Kevin Tillman, brother of Pat Tillman said "Somehow the more soldiers that die, the more legitimate the illegal invasion becomes." I think that sums up Gravel's comments pretty well.
We can't use the death of soldiers to justify the death of more soldiers.
Don't think Mike has a say in war matters? Mike Gravel is a vet, he has worked in counter-intelligence, & he fought to end the draft & war, making public the Pentagon Papers risking his life in the process. There is no question Mike Gravel knows what he is talking about. Watch "Young Men and Women", a Mike Gravel ad here on Youtube, maybe you'll begin to see the reality of this issue. There are more Gravel videos here on this subject as well.
Good question. Good response from Mike. Obama & John totally dodged the question and gave the "politics as usual" response. Obama and John don't have the balls and courage to come out and say it. There's no way to sugar coat it.
he meant you can now go to "communist" north vietnam and its no different than springfield ohio. meaning, the war with all its deaths was an excercise in futility
I'm so glad you question was chosen. It was a great topic for debate, and really showed the strengths and flaws of some of the candidates. So many americans take politics as a joke, then join the bandwagon of complaint when the president joins office. It's nice to see someone doing something positive, getting involved in politics on this level and asking honest to god questions.
you pulled off that question so tactically well that it's a wonder how some might give you heat for this. clearly, you knew that this question might stir up controversy (good for ratings) AND you knew that mike gravel doesn't flip flop like the others and so it was a question that stands out from the thousands that cnn must have received AND it seems initially as if it is intended to make mike gravel look bad (what cnn would probably prefer). for all that, i applaud you.
I think Mike Gravel answered this question a LOT better in that MSNBC interview (you can find it on Youtube.) If he had answered your question on CNN like he did in that interview, he would have looked much better.
why should he...he's a doctor (ob/gyn) that has delivered over 4000 plus babies, his belief is that the "Federal Government" should not be involved in what the "States" decide within it's boarders...if a state decides to outlaw, or practice abortion so be it...the "States" decide not the "Federal Government"!
Mike Gravel is the only honest one up there, the rest are a bunch of paid ass kissers, who say what they think the public wants to hear. I am volunteering for Mike's campaign,If you want him, do something to help. MIKE 08!
The Vietnam War, (just like the Iraq war) was never meant to be won...just SUSTAINED. The longer we are @ war, the more money is made by people invested in Arms, Fuel, Contracting...ect.

so, could anyone explain to me how baskin robbins in hanaoi is a good response? and no soldier that fights and dies for his country and people has died in vain so he can go to hell
soldiers are dying in vain if their commanders incompetantly send them into a war that doesnt need to be fought. US soldiers died for oil, plain and simple, is that worth dying for?
the way u asked him about if there dying in vane, Di i mean to sound like he was gonna flip flow (as u put it) OR did u do it to get him Fired up to tell the TRUTH ?
Mike Gravel is a good man n the only good 1 on the stage there, the rest are douche's
but I was just trying to ask a hard question that I knew mike would answer straight-forwardly while the other candidates would dance around it; which is exactly what happened. It's in the the description if you OR ANYBODY ELSE IS UNCLEAR ABOUT MY QUESTION.
You hear the top tier candidates saying soldiers didnt die in vain? They all danced around the question. All that means is that if they are elected, expect more of the same, a never ending war. Vote Mike Gravel
I've always considered myself a democrat and I think Gravel is great, but the best candidate this election is Ron Paul. Hope his wildfire keeps spreading.
Watch Obama's response: an artful dodge of the question. And only when asked again does he give his true opinion, that when the government asks us to lay down our lives and the lives of our children that it is always for a good cause. What a shame for this man to stand there and lie to us. Edwards skillfully agrees with Obama and redirects the outrage at hearing the truth to the easiest target who is Bush. None of these wimps will face down Mike Gravel because he speaks the truth.
damng00d - yes. that is the indicator of a truly FUCKED UP country, when telling the truth, ugly as it is, makes you a target of opportunity for every lying shill on the beltway who wants to reassure people who know in their gut they have been fucked seven ways before Tuesday.
telling the truth might not get one elected president but it could save our country. think about THAT, and the parable of Solomon's justice, when you're selecting a candidate based on their 'electability'
I thought his answer was a bit steam of consciousness, and didn't make a lot of sense to me. What was the ice cream cone mention all about? And what was the point of driving home that point about the troops in Vietnam dying in vain? You may as get in people's faces and scream that there is no God and their parents don't love them anymore. This kinda shit just doesn't get you elected president.
you didn't get the point that you can get a baskin robins ice cream cone in vietnam nowadays? do you even know what the vietnam war was fought for? the point is that despite our pulling out, vietnam is now a trading partner with us.
Well I do NOW! Thanks for responding to this though, I forgot all about this comment and have since come to reach a very high respect and understanding of Gravel's points and sincerely hope that even after the Democrats make their pick he doesn't give up and instead looks at Nader as a possible running mate.
God Bless You For Telling The Truth!!! Your Damn right and I'm a republican!!! Yes were all proud of our military and people what to believe they died to keep America free but the you know the truth is Vietnam & Iraq were no threat to Americans Freedom!!!
So it is true. All demacrats are pussies except Mike Gravel, all republicans are loonies except Ron Paul, and all those who can't stand the phrase "soldiers dying in vein" are just weaklings that don't deserve truth.
Thanks dude, English is tricky when you only started to use it for couple of years, but it doesn't prevent someone grew up with it from saying stupid things. Ppl are fed up with mere words from politicians, truth has a much greater power.
That was ridiclous for them to shortchange Gravel in response time and then when they do give him a question its one like that. He is a little over the top but he appears to be the most honest and straight forward candidate up there.
Three cheers for you johncantees. Mike Gravel comes accross to me as complaining alot. I do like the way he answered this question except for the way he continues to complain about the lack of press he is getting it seems to me this is what he does best or at least that is all the news covers him on.
I hope I get a chance to hear Mike Gravel in Keene New Hampshire. I have found heaing the canidates in person is far more rewarding then hearing what the news wants you to hear. I encourage everyone to go out and hear the canidates in person not just what the news shows you.
What the hell would you do in his situation? Sit back and say nothing like a good old boy. Hell no, he should complain and has every right to be mad as hell. Wake up!!!
Wow, that was a stupid question and I'm not surprised CNN aired it, because it was towards Gravel.
If people are offended by the truth, then it is no wonder liars are consistently elected. They just want politicians that tell them what they want to hear rather than the truth.
I'm not saying the question asker is one of those people who prefer lies over truth, but he was obviously referring to the many that do. Those who prefer someone telling them that everything is peachy.
Are people failing to understand what "Die in Vain" MEANS? It's not saying anything bad about the soldiers personally. it's saying something bad about the POLICY that led them unneccesarily to their DEATHS. Why can't people understand that if you send a solider to go fight for no reason at ALL, and he dies, that death was "IN VAIN".
I'll tell you why , becuase there FUCKING stupid. They need media, government, and politicians to think for them and tell them what to do. Thats why there will not be change in this country, majority of Americans aren't smart enough, and if they were, we would not be in this mess. And we would not be afraid or our OWN GOVT. Don't pay your taxes and see how fast the govt will put you in jail.

I wish you'd look at Barack Obama's agenda and realize that he's just a puppet. He says he's gonna tell the truth to the American people.
You just saw how much of a flip flopper Obama is in this clip about the War.
If you look at Dennis Kucinich, Mike Gravel, and Ron Paul, they never flip flop on War.
I ask you even if they're not President or VP, look at their records.
Obama's nothing but filling in the shoe for Bush. Just watch, we're gonna have a draft.

"all the black folks at my school are only going for obama because he's black"
To austinedd7, I don't blame you for raising a ref flag about Obama. They don't understand his real agenda.
So why not ask them the following.
1) What kind of "change" does he talk about?
2) What is their definition of "change"?
3) If they're so anti-bush, how come they don't look at Kucinich, Paul, or Gravel?
4) Does Obama talk about ending the drug wars?
You can easily tell that Obama flip-flops.

I don't like how Mike Gravel was given only about a minute to awnser his own question yet Obama and Edwards were allowed more time to awnser. ugh, the media needs to give equal time to each candidate. GRAVEL2008!

It's clear that Democrats in Nevada want to hear from Mike Gravel. Now he needs your help.
If 80 people just give . . .
$250 -- We can secure a spectacular Alternative Debate venue.
$100 -- We can stage and promote the entire event.
$50 -- We can plaster Las Vegas with 5,000 posters supporting Mike's fight against corporate censorship.

Like MSNBC, CNN's justification comes down to one ugly factor: MONEY.
uterfan 4 years ago
The fact is, Mike Gravel angered powerful people when he confronted Senator Clinton over Iran during last month's debate. Up to that moment the Clinton juggernaut was rolling over everyone. Now Mike is paying the price for speaking truth to power.

CNN says Mike Gravel must meet three criteria:
* Form a federal exploratory committee and officially declare his candidacy. (He did.)
* Poll at 1% or above. (He does.)
* Raise at least $1 million in individual contributions since January 1, 2007. (He has not.)
Once again, MONEY decides who gets to participate in America's political debates.

How does a debate for future presidents fall onto "GEORGE BUSH NEEDS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE!!"
You are there to get elected, not to point more fingers at the current president, no matter how badly he may have screwed up.
thegarbinator 4 years ago

Props to you. <3
Aschenputtel113 4 years ago
you pulled off that question so tactically well that it's a wonder how some might give you heat for this. clearly, you knew that this question might stir up controversy (good for ratings) AND you knew that mike gravel doesn't flip flop like the others and so it was a question that stands out from the thousands that cnn must have received AND it seems initially as if it is intended to make mike gravel look bad (what cnn would probably prefer). for all that, i applaud you.

How about Ron Paul?
Marctyne75 4 years ago
ron paul doesn't support individual abortion rights.
johncantees 4 years ago
why should he...he's a doctor (ob/gyn) that has delivered over 4000 plus babies, his belief is that the "Federal Government" should not be involved in what the "States" decide within it's boarders...if a state decides to outlaw, or practice abortion so be it...the "States" decide not the "Federal Government"!
Marctyne75 4 years ago
I think he means that the mindset of a person that doesn't support individual abortion rights just isn't right for the presidency.

soldiers are dying in vain if their commanders incompetantly send them into a war that doesnt need to be fought. US soldiers died for oil, plain and simple, is that worth dying for?

I'm going to rephrase part of that statement I said earler.
If I were an American, I'd take a nutjob like Gravel who's honest and mostly right over a saine man who's dishonest and mostly wrong.
Ratel3000 4 years ago
Gravel may be a nutjob, but he's a more worthy candidate than all the other candidates in your country for president [except Ron Paul] combined.
In your country as a politician, you HAVE to be nuts to tell the truth.
I'd take a truthfull nutjob who's right over a saine liar any day.
Ratel3000 4 years ago

johncantees 4 years ago
he's not a nubjob...he's an american hero, if honesty makes him nuts, than we're all in trouble

None of these wimps will face down Mike Gravel because he speaks the truth.
jimbeas 4 years ago 2
damng00d - yes. that is the indicator of a truly FUCKED UP country, when telling the truth, ugly as it is, makes you a target of opportunity for every lying shill on the beltway who wants to reassure people who know in their gut they have been fucked seven ways before Tuesday.
telling the truth might not get one elected president but it could save our country. think about THAT, and the parable of Solomon's justice, when you're selecting a candidate based on their 'electability'
ihatem1cro5oft 4 years ago
I thought his answer was a bit steam of consciousness, and didn't make a lot of sense to me. What was the ice cream cone mention all about? And what was the point of driving home that point about the troops in Vietnam dying in vain? You may as get in people's faces and scream that there is no God and their parents don't love them anymore. This kinda shit just doesn't get you elected president.
quixoto 4 years ago
you didn't get the point that you can get a baskin robins ice cream cone in vietnam nowadays? do you even know what the vietnam war was fought for? the point is that despite our pulling out, vietnam is now a trading partner with us.
yogafireyogaflame23 4 years ago
Well I do NOW! Thanks for responding to this though, I forgot all about this comment and have since come to reach a very high respect and understanding of Gravel's points and sincerely hope that even after the Democrats make their pick he doesn't give up and instead looks at Nader as a possible running mate.

If people are offended by the truth, then it is no wonder liars are consistently elected. They just want politicians that tell them what they want to hear rather than the truth.

Are people failing to understand what "Die in Vain" MEANS? It's not saying anything bad about the soldiers personally. it's saying something bad about the POLICY that led them unneccesarily to their DEATHS. Why can't people understand that if you send a solider to go fight for no reason at ALL, and he dies, that death was "IN VAIN".
keithburgun 4 years ago
I'll tell you why , becuase there FUCKING stupid. They need media, government, and politicians to think for them and tell them what to do. Thats why there will not be change in this country, majority of Americans aren't smart enough, and if they were, we would not be in this mess. And we would not be afraid or our OWN GOVT. Don't pay your taxes and see how fast the govt will put you in jail.
