THANK YOU, for saying this! You just stole MY thoughts but worded them better than I ever could.
I am of the firm belief that ignoring a problem and pretending everything is fine is not going to make the problem magically vanish.
Being a part of a majority that never experiences racism from another large group means you are privileged enough to ignore that it happens to others, even so privileged you might not even be aware of how common prevalent the problem is.
One criticism of Obama's position I had (at this time) was that in his campaign he never really addressed race to begin with. Now was it his duty to do so? No, of course not. But I think it was a mistake for him to wait for it to come up.
And Reverand Wright WAS speaking the truth, he's not crazy--and the media (with the exception of Bill Moyers) assuredly was NOT interested in telling his story from his perspective.
Great vid. And that was a great speech he gave on race. Too bad he kind of muddied things up by denying his Caucasian heritage on the census form LOL Was a little disappointed by that (am also biracial, like you/him).
A healthy relationship with race, or any other demographical separator (for instance, being gay), means you go beyond recognizing and acknowledging others' culture in the passively bigoted mindset of "tolerance" into embracing, supporting and celebrating the their love for the world with the same measure by which you celebrate your own. I think that's the only true way a family can remain functional. (Hope that wasn't too eggheaded. It just needed to be said.)

why is it that the only time i think about race is when people like this guy talk about it? i have a suspicion that this guy doesnt want people to be over it because i was over it (not that i ever think about it) until he said something.
you always have so many messages in just a single video. The part about not being over something because you don't talk about it, is so true. thanks for reminding me of that
Some good points made here. My only quarm with this is that a persons culture or backround is not dependent on their ethnicity. For example i'm an Irish white kid who listens to hip-hop. I don't relate particularily to traditional Irish culture. I'm more than comfortable with others peoples culture but I am "colour blind". I'm not "post-racial" cos I was raised not to be (racial) in the first place.

I agree with. I am more "colour blind" than I am "post-racial." My parents came to America from Ireland after most minorities' parents came here. Hell I even grew up in Ireland during my childhood. I'm newer to the US than 90% of Hispanics and Asians and all that lot. When I get blamed for "slavery" or called "white boy" in school I return it by calling Asians "yellow boy." I refuse to accept a double standard that wasn't created due to MY actions NOR my ancestors' actions.

ijam ... you are an IDIOT. Absolute FUCKING idiot to be clear. Answer this. WHO freed the slaves? HUH!!! My white family. What did you thinking marching freed anything? !! hahaha You victimist wannabee!!! YOU ALONE and idiots like you is what keeps racism and pain alive. You werent a slave mother fucker... and I wasnt your white master. SO shut the fuck up!!! Seriously. SHUT THE FUCK UP. You are inventing shit.

True again. Race as an issue is never going to be over until people get over being PC and have the conversations we all know need to be had. You cant sidestep the history of race in America because to do that means that you would have to do a complete re-write of its history... and we already have enough lies out there as it is...
The media is just looking for something wrong for Barack Obama but they couldn't find anything so they go after his pastor. He didn't say those things, obviously you can see that wasn't Obama that said anything and we didn't see Obama in the audience so in other words he wasn't there when the Pastor made these statements. Instead of getting mad at Obama you should be upset with the Pastor not him. Common Sense people!
It's funny how in a country that prides itself on being so open and accepting that you find most of it's citizens prefer to walk on eggshells. On another note, all people who attend church don't always agree with EVERYTHING the pastor has to say. That's why we all have our own minds?! Maybe, all of those people in the media making such an issue on Jeremiah Wright believe that the leader of a church IS The Last Word. All that are led to the well, won't always drink from it. Nor do they have to.
Exactly what I was thinking about geting "over" something part.. Doesnt mean not talking about it, because you're just avoiding it, thats not getting over anything.. :)

By definition, this country cannot --be-- "post-racial."
God-willing, the election of President Obama can be the --start-- of a long and thorough healing process.
