  • So you are saying that NO ONE EVER asked Reagan publicly about AIDS before 1987??? No reporters? No one?? That is a little hard to believe..

  • NO ONE asked Reagan publicly about AIDS before 1987??? No reporters? No one??

  • Not until 1987?? Well there is proof that this is a lie.. Go to utexas.edu/archives/speeches/1985/91785c.htm and check for your self.. IDIOTS!!

  • Ronald Reagan did not hate gays.. If you do a litle research you will see he did not support The Briggs Initiative. The Briggs Initiative was sponsored by John Briggs, a California state legislator. Without the support of Reagan the initiative failed had it not have failed it would have banned gays and lesbians, and most likely anyone who supported gay rights, from working in California's public schools. Reagan did not support this..

  • Reagan's own words, he stated “Whatever else it is, homosexuality is not a contagious disease like the measles. Prevailing scientific opinion is that an individual's sexuality is determined at a very early age and that a child's teachers do not really influence this."

  • I deeply appreciate your personal inclusion in your research concerning your mother and even your own name. It gives the facts the personal balance needed to help us realize that numbers are more than just numbers--they are lives.

  • Give Reagan a break. He and his wife kept in touch with Rock Hudson until he died. Reagan did not hate Gay people. Yet the Gay radicals publicly threatened a bombing and assassination campaign if anything was done to stop their behaviors that spread AIDS. They cheered when Hinckley shot Reagan. The SDS/SLA murders and bombings had taken place just a few years before. Reagan decided to leave the Gays alone--did he have any other choice? See my next comment.

  • @Albacorewing next comment: It was impossible to stop a mass movement of people bent on suicidal behavior. That was why Gay male baby boomers are extinct, not Reagan. Only imprisonment of hundreds of thousands of Gay people could have stopped this epidemic and Gay leaders had sworn armed resistance if this took place. The Gay male baby boomers voluntarily killed themselves just like Japanese civilians jumping off the cliff on Saipan. There was no stopping it.

  • @Albacorewing I do not think it is fair to blame AIDS, homelessness, and the like on Ronald Reagan. He quit being President in 1989 and has been dead for years.

  • @Albacorewing Give US a break, nancy 1st priority was to redecorate the white house, while just saying no to dieing ppl. & ronnie raygun, well he couldnt remember he had a brain.or compassion.

  • @sleekcartim You do not know how it was because you were not part of the 1980's. I was. I was out earning a living, and I saw all the baloney the Left hurled at Reagan. I even still hear the Left blaming him TODAY for homelessness in people who were not even alive in 1988.

  • @Albacorewing You prolly think the pic on my channels background is of me, well it isnt. He was my best friend who died because of AIDS, partially cuz of reagans inaction & predjudice. I graduated from HS in 1980, I marched with ACT UP in Pride parades, volunteered as an aids buddy, and cried with them all many many times. This history vid is correct!

  • @sleekcartim Tell me then, just what was it that Reagan should have done? Do you think they would have listened to him? Think again. It's a shame that so many productive people died, but was Reagan supposed to micro-manage their sex lives? That idea is insane.

  • @Albacorewing

He was supposed to promote HIV/AIDS awareness, fund research for prevention and treatment of the disease and say the word AIDS in public before 1987! He was the President of the United States, if he wanted to he could have led a fight against the disease. But he didnt and because he didnt millions of people have died.

  • @kingharvest11 I disagree. It was all over the newspapers that AIDS was a bodily fluid issue and that the most elementary of precautions would stop it.. The Gays wanted the party to go on, and in a terrible waste of human life they died in crowds. You must understand that Baby Boomers were and are a very obstinate bunch of people--Gay Baby Boomers shared this way of thinking. Reagan had bigger fish to fry than stopping their stampede to their doom and knew he would fail if he tried.

  • Once that scurrilous accusation was directed at Reagan, it was the kiss of death in so far as Reagan wanting anything to do with the epidemic was concerned. I think that Gay people need to try to get others to see them as individuals rather than practice the groupthink goose step and letting their "leaders" speak for them. Goose stepping is a great way to march over a cliff, as the followers of a 20th Century Central European dictator discovered.

  • @sleekcartim Even today there are Gay leaders repeating that false Soviet agitprop claiming that the U.S. Government invented AIDS. You need to understand human nature. Was that supposed to make Reagan in some way fight AIDs, or was it realistically expected that he wanted as little to do as possible with the whole arguement? Think on human nature and try not to be naive.

  • @sleekcartim You report you were associated with ACT UP. Larry Kramer tried to get his people to fight the infection in a realistic manner. But even he was villified and ostracized, as history records. You fight a biological entity with ecological and physical barriers, with things poisonous to it or biological controls. Do people these days blame Obama for too many invasive carp in the Mississippi River and claim that he invented the species at Fort Dix New Jersey? I think not.

  • This is ridiculous!!! Who forced you to have sex? Reagan? When will you people grow up and learn to take responsibilities for your own actions. You screwed up your own life...not Reagan, not me, not your mother....!!

Grow up!! Actions have consequences! The quicker your learn that, the smarter you will be!!

  • excellent job! I lived those years too. Reagan & the religious right have blood on their hands. Going by their religion, they will be judged for their hatred / lack of compassion for gods children.

    1 LIFE

  • @sleekcartim

So tell me slick, where do you get your religious beliefs from? A comic book??

  • @msflemin yeah some ppl call the bible a comic book.

  • @sleekcartim LMAO!!!

  • Pure hell living through that time, so many of my closest friends fell sick, wasted away & died while Reagan & his cronies dangled a few measly crumbs in our faces, sucking up more to those bible thumper zombie thugs railing hatefully against me & people I loved. Had things been different - if shithead Reagan and the shits who continue their ignorant blasts against queers were halfway human maybe my kind & gentle lover of almost 20 yrs would be here today to celebrate our 40 anniversary...

  • @alfalafool

So it's Reagan's fault that two guys got it on and got sick???

Does your mommy have to hold your hand for you to go from home to school/work and back again???

  • @msflemin Exactly.. These people wait for the president to tell them anything.. They want the government to come in and tell them everything. LMAO!!!

  • @msflemin Exactly.. These people wait for the president to tell them anything.. They want the government to come in and tell them everything. LMAO!!! It makes me wonder if most gay people even really care at all especially when they have bath houses where random sex occurs and sex on the streets in SF and something called POZ parties where they go to actually become positive.. CRAZY!!!

  • Brilliantly Done. Thank You.

  • Go back and read the accounts of the time. Reagan totally failed to provide leadership that was would have brought attention to what his Asst Secretary of Health E. Brandt Jr. called the #1 health priority in 1983. Brandt was soon fired for going against the Admin. RR's biggest action on AIDS was to appoint a Presidential Commission on HIV & totally ignored its recommendations: "More Missed Chances: Reagan Leaves Tough Decisions on AIDS to His Successors" in NATURE, v. 334 August 1988

  • Great vid. In the onslaught of all the myth-making surrounding Reagan's 100th anniversary, let's never forget what a horrible president he was.

  • wonder if reagan used a condom when he cheated on his first wife with future astrologist/wife nancy, who was also committing adultry? too bad neither of them became infected, imagine how their deaths could of saved millions of others.

  • Facts are stupid things. - Ronald Reagan

  • @AtlasShruggery So are Tax Attorneys.

Looks like The Planned Parent Hoods can use your services. They are advising Pimps on how to conduct Business or was that your daughter on the video. You must be the proud parent. What a low life you are!

  • @olgadel1 "They are advising Pimps on how to conduct Business..." PP immediately fired the employee who improperly acted and contacted the FBI long before this "scandal" broke.

    Please stop lying.

  • @WellConditioned Not lies the one in Vitginia was not let go. It appears that another one has popped up in the Bronx.

It appears you are a liar at best.

However your buddy the Shrug is a low life Tax Attorney. No problem with that scum taking his kids and Grand Children to Disney with Sex Trade Money. You are a leftie you wouldn't see anything wrong with that.

  • Reagan was negligent dealing with the AIDS epidemic. Instead he gave money and resources to a anti drug campaign that if anything gave way to a new drug, CRACK. He did do great things for the USA but he is also is held accountable for the death of thousands due to AIDs, Maybe the Alzheimer was starting to show or maybe he was just acting, something he did all his life and then again Americans love actors so much they put their own nation and future in the hands of people who act... amazing.

  • As I recall it hit the old guys first, even the ones that were in relationships, with well established lives and careers. It was called Gay Cancer first. AIDS then trickled down to the younger ages.

  • Whats so weird is they were all over the swine flu threat, but really did little about AIDS when it first broke out.

  • @cowtowndowntown All over it because people, including the President, knew that swine flu was not a homosexual disease. Neither is AIDS, but at the time, that's what they believed. Reagan messed up badly during this time. I was only 11 when AIDS first broke on the news, and I remember it with great fear.

  • rickynsc - your statement that REAGAN did not force anyone to have sex without a condom reveals your ignorance. I doubt he forced anyone to eat without restraint a cause for all the diseases associated with obesity, nor did he force anyone to smoke cigarettes which is associated with numerous health issues. Blaming the victim doesn't work, and you being gay doesn't qualify your opinion in any way. Reagan and his government were slow to act and caused the unnecessary death of so many. fuck off

  • Comment removed

  • @scudder99 I will say it again.. REAGAN did not force anyone to have sex without a condom.. Yes the victim is to blame for having careless sex. If I go out and drive drunk and injure my self or kill someone who should I blame?? Maybe I will blame you. Just so I can take the blame off of my self. The first person I ever feel in love with passed from AIDS in 1985. He had reckless casual sex and he knew the risks of doing so. He never blamed Reagan. How stupid if he had of..

  • @rrickynsc Goody for you. There is a larger social implication, and it you don't see it, I don't really care.

  • Comment removed

  • @rrickynsc No Reagan did not force anyone to have sex without condoms and yes funding did skyrocket throughout the 1980's. The point of this video is to show that The Reagan Administration failed to act. This failure let to the deaths of thousands of American citizens! These are not lies. Reagan did not address the issue publicly until 1987. By the end of that year 36,000 were estimated to have Aids and 20,000 had died. I do admire Reagan but he failed to deal with Aids effectively.

  • @joahmn Much of the "increased" funding was merely are redefinition. All current virus research was merely reclassified as AIDS related. Everyone should see the movie, And The Band Played On, to understand how Reagan and the Religious Right harmed America during these years.

  • @joahmn Where is the personal responsibility in all of this?? Do the people who helped spread this have any responsibility or is it all someone else's fault? Is the president supposed to tell people to put on condoms? During the time when AIDS was first being learned of people thought it could be spread by just touching something another person with AIDS had touched. So if they knew or thought it was that contagious common sense would tell anyone to use caution having random anonymous sex..

During the time when AIDS was first being learned of people thought it could be spread by just touching something another person with AIDS had touched. At the time, people thought it was very contagious common sense would tell anyone to use caution having random anonymous sex, especially when it was widely known as the, " gay disease"

  • @rrickynsc P.S. remember most documentary is propaganda. If you have a strong connection with Reagan as a figure I'm not attempting to attack the man as an individual but I am trying to invoke an emotional response. At first his actions or inaction did nothing to address the epidemic. Think how swine flu was handled, completely different I know but the focus was on prevention from the beginning.

  • @joahmn It does not matter what the Reagan Admin did or did not do. The bottom line is nothing would have never been enough for a group of overly sensitive people.. You never hear gays brag about how much spending increased during the 1980's starting early on in 1980's.. He publicly mentioned AIDS in 1985 not 1987 as you have stated. In 1982 they did not even have a name for it and before that they were not even sure what it was or why people were dying.

  • @joahmn It does not matter what the Reagan Admin did or did not do. The bottom line is nothing would have never been enough for a group of overly sensitive people who were ready to blame anyone other than their self for the problem. He publicly mentioned AIDS in 1985 not 1987 as you have stated. In 1982 they did not even have a name for it and before that they were not even sure what it was or why people were dying. Gay people are much more at blame than Reagan for the spread of AIDS..

  • @rrickynsc It does matter what the Reagan Admin did not do. The bottom line is that an epidemic was not properly addressed because it was infecting citizens that were considered second class. This failure to act lead to unnecessary death and furthered the spread of Aids. Like I said earlier Reagan did good for the nation but he did not respond as a president should to an epidemic... thus I made emotional video that you watched many times deal with it.

  • @rrickynsc How old are you? Did you live through this time?

  • @phlashba I am in my late 40's yes I lived through it. I remember the days well. I'm sorry guys I just don't see where you can blame so much on Reagan. You have no real proof that he neglected the gay community. The only people who neglected to do anything was the gay community. If I went out and had sex and got infected with HIV I am not going to blame someone else for my own ignorance. Everyone knew how bad it was, way before his first public speech. How old are you? Did you live through it?

  • @rrickynsc 1. It was not established at the beginning that AIDS was spread sexually. 2. A lot of people were infected by non-sexual means (the blood supply of the nation was not protected!). 3. Not everyone with AIDS was/is gay. 4. Yes, I lived through it but obviously have a more detailed memory than you; but go ahead and try to revise history any way that suits your tastes.

  • @phlashba I remember it well and as I stated and you apparently ignored, "In 1982 they did not even have a name for it and before that they were not even sure what it was or why people were dying." Yes many people were infected many different ways no one was sure how it was spreading.

  • @rrickynsc

How can you say that AIDS funding "skyrocketed in the 1980s?" the CDC was refused additional funding again and again by the Reagan Administration and Secretary of Health and Human Services Margaret Heckler. When Heckler made the speech you referred to the year was 1985, more than five years after the first United States AIDS case. Reagan increased defense spending by 40% yet could not allocate even $1 billion dollars to fight AIDS.

  • @kingharvest11 ummm he allocated over 1.6 billion. The funding doubled each year he was in... If the gay community did not care why is it so important for anyone else to care? Wide use of a condom could have prevented much of this spread..

  • @kingharvest11 ummm he allocated over 1.6 billion. The funding doubled each year he was in... If the gay community did not care why is it so important for anyone else to care? Wide use of a condom could have prevented much of this spread.. A lot of money and lives could have been saved if only people would have kept their zipper up and pecker in.

  • @rrickynsc

But why did Reagan do nothing? He did not promote prevention methods (such as condoms) and did not allocate funding to fight the disease, he did not even mention the word AIDS in public until 1987, more than 37,000 people had died by then. Those are lives, individuals, friends, family.. If AIDS had been an epidemic of the straight population it surely would have been dealt with immediately.

  • @rrickynsc

Funding only peeked at $1.6 billion, a startlingly low number when more than 37,000 Americans were infected and dying from AIDS. Look at spending during the 1990s, in 1991 spending was already above $4 billion dollars and continued to increase every fiscal year. You also conveniently left out the other part of Heckler's speech, "We must conquer AIDS before it starts affecting the heterosexual population and the general population." Before it starts affecting the people that mater....

  • @kingharvest11 First of all $1.6 billion is an understatement. But that is a lot of money for that time period. BILLIONS is not a small amount especially for so few people. Also the US was the first country to recognize the AIDS virus and name it.. All under the Reagan administration. I fail to see how a public speech about something that the public was already aware of would have changed anything so drastically. Please show me proof of Hecklers actual Speech.. Love to see a transcript of it.

  • @kingharvest11 Of course the spending increased during the 1990's as more and more gay men infected each other there were more and more cases. More research $ goes into AIDS than any other disease yet it is only number 17 on the list for killer diseases. At the time or now even it was not claiming near as many lives as diabetes, but for some reason some people think they are more important than other and deserve the lions share of spending on their issues.

  • @kingharvest11 umm 1.6 billion was for one year alone. For his entire presidency the federal government spent $5.7 billion on AIDS under Ronald Reagan. This is hardly doing nothing as you like to say.

  • @rrickynsc Read Randy Shilts's groundbreaking and heartbreaking text AND THE BAND PLAYED ON. Then come back and debate in a more intelligent fashion, please.

And why in the world does your being gay matter, here? This is a human issue, not one relegated to particular sexualities.

  • @lifestandstillhere I have already seen the movie and read it and have been partynered with two people who were infected with AIDS.. USE A CONDOM BOTTOM LINE...

  • @lifestandstillhere I have already seen the movie and read it and have been partynered with two people who were infected with AIDS.. USE A CONDOM BOTTOM LINE... It has a whole lot to do with me being gay so you would not accuse me of being an insensitive straight person who does not understand.. What I don't understand is how some people can be so ignorant as to not use a condom when they know their life is possibly at risk...

  • @rrickynsc Using condoms is not a surefire way to prevent HIV or any other STD. And my comment to you regarding your need to express what your sexuality is remains: this is a human issue, not a straight or gay one.

  • @lifestandstillhere Well the video is about a gay issue and is what the topic is about.

  • You did well.
