I have to respond to the comments stating that it was this child's fault. I am surprised that an adult could make such a comment. I am a teacher and as a teacher it is my RESPONSIBILITY to maintain control of my classroom. I set the standard for behavior. I make my expectations clear. There is no excuse for what that teacher did, if she was having trouble she should have called someone from the office, ie, principal, vice principal, counselor, etc, to help her.

I want to get sick hearing this! My 8 yr old aspergers son was told by his special ed teachers that the way he ate was enough to make his teacher throw up. She told him if she did in fact puke he would be cleaning it up , not only her vomit but the 4 other teachers sitting there at the time vomit, his response, the same as he has when being bullied ignoring them and continue eating! She said he didn't qualify for her help because he had the "wrong type " of Aspergers. He was originally put in that school for spec ed. He was more recently accepted into a satelite school for talented and gifted inside that school! His test scores qualified him for the program and they haven't changed
my high school was the exact opposite of this. They were so afraid of lawsuits that I could come into school stoned off my ass and convince them it was caused by my aspergers, they didn't challenge me because they didn't want another lawsuit.

Ive got aspergers, I had all kinds of behavioral problems, and some of the stuff I used to do, sends chills up my spine whenever I get a "flashback" of it, whatever triggers the flashbacks, because it reminds me of it.

I am an educator and it this educator is not able to control the situation. She is to be a good role model to these children and is not living up to what she should be doing. Then this gets transferred onto me. It did in other ways. I just wasn't allowed to talk, ask questions or chose anything. Having the kids vote was WRONG, but just as wrong is keeping the child in the class if he/she is bothering the other students and disrupting their learning. I remember when I was in elementary school we had some slower kids in the class and it slowed us all down. We should not be punished for the slower people in our society. Parents need to take more responsibility and properly medicate their children, instead of pushing them off onto the teachers

A good teacher makes all the difference. I have AS myself and I was extremly disruptive and hyper at this age and my kindergarden teacher never had a problem with me but that woman was a saint and knew how to work with me.

I saw the official news report on this subject. This child was torturing other students along with the teacher for 149 days. And who gets the sympathy, the child who is torturing everyone. I think you missed my point, I have taken the ASD examination myself, I scored 133 thats 2 points below the average score of people with moderate Aspergers, yet the psychologist even after seeing this test has confirmed that I do not have Aspergers/high functioning autism. Is there a flaw, I think so, I do know children and adults with autism, of which from the video footage of that child, the likelihood of autism was not apparent. They treat autism/aspergers through behavioral conditioning.

Voting an autistic(possibly) student out of a classroom is absurd and disgusting. I wish that that teacher would go on an administrative leave without pay for years to come. I can understand that the kid might be a distraction to other students, depending on the severity of his disorder. However, if that was the case, the teacher should bring this to the attention of the parents and principal so that he child may be placed in a special education class where proper accomodations may provided for him. All this teacher did was have the child's peers tell why they hate him and then VOTED him out of the class. Voted him out of the class? How is that even legal!?

The idea of a teacher delegating part of her responsibility (discipline) to her 5 y.o. kids is appauling. This means that 16 years of education (general + specialized) count for NOTHING in the competency of a teacher. "Even a 5 year old can do my job for me!"

The other day in my kindergarten, a meltdown occurred where a child screamed, bit me and began punching me. The principal was there, supporting me & the child, connnected with the parents, suspended the little boy, & the next day the Mom apologized & the kid hugged me & all was back to normal. A wonderful principal makes all the difference!

My very favorite teacher was Mrs. Bowers. She was the person that was the resourse room teacher. The first time I walked to her door after I found her class, I just started bawling as I read the sign on her door. "This is a ridicule free zone!!!"
I have Bipolar1. I have to drink 2 full sized pepsi juggs a day; other wise, the lithium I take will dehydrate me. My teacher only gave us 3 BR breaks a trimester. 2 full pepsi juggs... 3 BR breaks... you do the math. I think teachers in all grade levels should take extra classes so they can learn more about every type of disability.I think they should do this and make adaptations for these children so they have a better learning experience in a ridicule-free environment
That's what I'm doing. I tell it to anyone who are majoring in education to take more classes and educate themselves more, because the more we know and understand the world we live in the better it is for everyone. Unfortunately colleges and universities are taking away such classes due to budget cuts. *sighs* They started with the schools, then the children and now attacking possible future educators. I swear United States doesn't want anyone to be educated anymore.

I got ignorance from the teachers, but for a teacher to INITIATE cruelty like she is the star of some reality TV series is criminal. I have a friend named derrick that has that. I treat him like he's my friend because we had resource classes together. Sure he's silly at times, but I can be just as silly. This happens too much.That is why there is a movment to home school children.I had a teacher tell me my son needed to be on medication and he was ADD.Spent my money on a Doctor that let me know quickly that the teacher needed medication--she was boring to my son.
My son was put thru humiliation in FL in early '90's , also Asperger's. Principal ordered teacher to put his name on board in front of all other kids , & get checkmarks in front of everyone. All other kids were given another form of discipline, mine was ONLY one given this in front of his peers. It damaged psychologically & I had to have him bussed to another school to get away from the sadistic principal's BULLYING. This was last straw of many. These adults need to be removed from kids!!!!

My 6 year old son is in Kindergarten and has Autism. He has bad days and good days. There is no way a teacher should be holding a vote among 5-6 year olds as to weather or not a child with a disability should be recieving the same education as them! there are so many levels of wrongness in that story. it's hard to really address them. it sets up the sort of problem that will continue. what happens the next time another student falls out of favor in this class? or when the bell rings will the kids then feel they have a right to keep picking on or beat up the child? as they grow up, with the idea they are entitled to dismiss anyone they find challenging will they become more agressive. will the teacher think she should handle all matters...

My son is both ADHD and mildly Aspie. Until we decided to homeschool in 5th grade (3 years ago), my son lived a hellish existence at school. His inability to comply and conform to the social rules imposed by 10 year olds, found him either ostracized or bullied each day. He was nearly broken. I am crushed that the one person who was supposed to be safe, could have behaved so cruelly. There is no excuse. She was the only adult in the group and she promoted a Lord of the Flies scenario. I am ill.

I have to respond to the comments stating that it was this child's fault. I am surprised that an adult could make such a comment. I am a teacher and as a teacher it is my RESPONSIBILITY to maintain control of my classroom. I set the standard for behavior. I make my expectations clear. There is no excuse for what that teacher did, if she was having trouble she should have called someone from the office, ie, principal, vice principal, counselor, etc, to help her.

I want to get sick hearing this! My 8 yr old aspergers son was told by his special ed teachers that the way he ate was enough to make his teacher throw up. She told him if she did in fact puke he would be cleaning it up , not only her vomit but the 4 other teachers sitting there at the time vomit, his response, the same as he has when being bullied ignoring them and continue eating! I was thrown out of every school I was ever in, with the exception of Richmond and Greenfield. (probably thrown out of greenfield too) but I know it wasnt richmond.
the difference is, the people who run the school said that I was too violent for them.
the teacher didnt facilitate harassment against me.
when I left school for the last time, when I was 17, I could not even do the times tables.

regardless, I now have a college education and Im now in the police academy.

Then this gets transferred onto me. It did in other ways. I just wasn't allowed to talk, ask questions or chose anything. Anything I did was annoying because I didn't deserve it, but other kids did somehow for doing less or performing less. Due to being disadvantaged in the workforce/ needing my paycheck, I was overworked and underpaid and abused. I was taught lessons and told to uphold morals. I'm so lucky; I don't have anything to give. Here they come again.

Having the kids vote was WRONG, but just as wrong is keeping the child in the class if he/she is bothering the other students and disrupting their learning. I remember when I was in elementary school we had some slower kids in the class and it slowed us all down. We should not be punished for the slower people in our society. I saw the official news report on this subject. This child was torturing other students along with the teacher for 149 days. And who gets the sympathy, the child who is torturing everyone. I think you missed my point, I have taken the ASD examination myself, I scored 133 thats 2 points below the average score of people with moderate Aspergers, yet the psychologist even after seeing this test has confirmed that I do not have Aspergers/high functioning autism. Is there a flaw, I think so, I do know children and adults with autism, of which from the video footage of that child, the likelihood of autism was not apparent. They treat autism/aspergers through behavioral conditioning.

I can understand that the kid might be a distraction to other students, depending on the severity of his disorder. However, if that was the case, the teacher should bring this to the attention of the parents and principal so that he child may be placed in a special education class where proper accomodations may provided for him. There are obviously kids that are too tough to handle but being a teacher, you go into it knowing you are going to need a world of patience. And if things get too tough to handle, even if you're a teacher, ASK FOR HELP. Go to higher authority, like I said. God damn..

That's just horrible. Really. The kid is too young to be able to stick up for himself and I could just see something like this turning him into a columbine kid or a depressed person. This type of thing at such a young age could emotionally damage him for life. Ruin his self esteem, etc. If he was too tough to deal with the teacher should have GONE TO SOMEBODY ELSE with higher authority. A teacher is supposed to handle things in a mature way.

The idea of a teacher delegating part of her responsibility (discipline) to her 5 y.o. kids is appauling. This means that 16 years of education (general + specialized) count for NOTHING in the competency of a teacher. "Even a 5 year old can do my job for me!"

If you want perfection, maybe kids should be put in front of computers all day long instead of us error-prone beings called teachers. The other day in my kindergarten, a meltdown occurred where a child screamed, bit me and began punching me. The principal was there, supporting me & the child, connnected with the parents, suspended the little boy, & the next day the Mom apologized & the kid hugged me & all was back to normal. A wonderful principal makes all the difference!

Maybe the words 'disgusting' and 'annoying,' when used by the other children were the only way they knew how to phrase the truth that this 'special child' and his attention-seeking antics were ruining their own chance at learning. They and the teacher are punished every day by having to learn and teach in what is supposed to be a classroom, and not a personal playground for this little cretin.

What we have here is a communication problem!
Someone needs to grab the teacher firmly by the throat and explain in words of one syllable the consequence of destroying a young childs self esteem.
Then while maintaining the grip, explain in detail, the consequences of BUILDING a child's self esteem and inspiring the other children to do the same.
Hopefully before the teacher turns blue and there's a dull thud on the floor, the teacher will get it.

Dude, if I was there when this happened, I would of verbally abused that teacher. She sounds like someone who couldn't handle her own job, so looked for the help of 14 other 5 year old children. How the hell does that work? She sounds not only ill-prepared for her job, but also ignorant of the ramafications of autism. She should be fired imediatley, and the childs mother should be able to go at her physically.

My very favorite teacher was Mrs. Bowers. She was the person that was the resourse room teacher. The first time I walked to her door after I found her class, I just started bawling as I read the sign on her door. "This is a ridicule free zone!!!"

I have Bipolar1. I have to drink 2 full sized pepsi juggs a day; other wise, the lithium I take will dehydrate me. My teacher only gave us 3 BR breaks a trimester. 2 full pepsi juggs... 3 BR breaks... you do the math. I think teachers in all grade levels should take extra classes so they can learn more about every type of disability.I think they should do this and make adaptations for these children so they have a better learning experience in a ridicule-free environment

That's what I'm doing. I tell it to anyone who are majoring in education to take more classes and educate themselves more, because the more we know and understand the world we live in the better it is for everyone. Unfortunately colleges and universities are taking away such classes due to budget cuts. *sighs* They started with the schools, then the children and now attacking possible future educators. I swear United States doesn't want anyone to be educated anymore.

This takes the concept of bullying to a whole new level. I have Asperger Syndrome, undiagnosed when I was small, and I took an abnormally cruel amount of crap off of the kids. I got ignorance from the teachers, but for a teacher to INITIATE cruelty like she is the star of some reality TV series is criminal. Her licence should be permently revoked and a fine should be payed for starters. If I can EVER get my damn movie-editing software to work, I have a vid esp. about this subject. Thank you.

I have a friend named derrick that has that. I treat him like he's my friend because we had resource classes together. Sure he's silly at times, but I can be just as silly. I have bipolar 1 and I even make fun of my craziness because if I can do that, then I won't feel so bad when other people tease me. I remember one time in high school, there was a kid that had a really mean really clever and funny come-back; I laughed said "wow that's a good one. And he walked away with a dumb-founded look.:)

My son was put thru humiliation in FL in early '90's , also Asperger's. Principal ordered teacher to put his name on board in front of all other kids , & get checkmarks in front of everyone. All other kids were given another form of discipline, mine was ONLY one given this in front of his peers. It damaged psychologically & I had to have him bussed to another school to get away from the sadistic principal's BULLYING. This was last straw of many. These adults need to be removed from kids!!!!

You're right. In high school, most of the "Hot people" and all the cocky athletes had ugly personalities that they hid with their pretty faces. My 6 year old son is in Kindergarten and has Autism. He has bad days and good days. There is no way a teacher should be holding a vote among 5-6 year olds as to weather or not a child with a disability should be recieving the same education as them! What kind of sick person does this? That poor boy will always carry that feeling of rejection with him. She needs to be removed and let a good teacher who is laid off take her class. Someone who will protect our children, not destroy them!!!

I could care less if it's not my neighborhood, not even if it's my state, because this is absurd. There is no justification for this, and that teacher shouldn't have a license at all. there are so many levels of wrongness in that story. it's hard to really address them. it sets up the sort of problem that will continue. what happens the next time another student falls out of favor in this class? or when the bell rings will the kids then feel they have a right to keep picking on or beat up the child? as they grow up, with the idea they are entitled to dismiss anyone they find challenging will they become more agressive. will the teacher think she should handle all matters...

My son is both ADHD and mildly Aspie. Until we decided to homeschool in 5th grade (3 years ago), my son lived a hellish existence at school. His inability to comply and conform to the social rules imposed by 10 year olds, found him either ostracized or bullied each day. He was nearly broken. I am crushed that the one person who was supposed to be safe, could have behaved so cruelly. There is no excuse. She was the only adult in the group and she promoted a Lord of the Flies scenario. I am ill.

This "bleeper" of a teacher's conduct was way over the top. Here in the UK, she would have been suspended with sacking and, criminal proceedings pending. Its clear that this child, Alex, has a disability and needs to be addressed as such.
