I can't stand when people use text speak. Its fine when you are actually sending text or chatting online. People sound like idiots when they say something like LOL or OMG when speaking or signing for that matter.

I thought LOL meant lots of love when i saw it first time! I have seen some deaf sign LOL and hated it, as they used the ASL alphebet when signing LOL, not the ISL alphebet, makes me wanna say, you are in Ireland, so use ISL! funny enough, we say ASL instead of American Sign Langauge or ISL instead of Irish Sign Language, BSL, LSF, for various sign langauges, only one, Australia, uses a actual sign for Auslan, not a acronym.
I sure hope the future won’t use acronyms because I can barely understand the modern Internet language and the new dig for the teens. =). By the way, the symbol of smiley face is the actual proof that I am smiling right now but not laughting out loud (LOL). =)

I too encountered with these acronyms in internet and I can never understand what it is being said. My teen sister taught me what were “LOL” and “ROFTL”. One time, I was talking to my teen sister in internet. I am a late bloomer.

Certain words that are recognized as whole English words, now, started out as acronyms: "Snafu" started out in WW2 as (Situation Normal All F### Up) "Awol" started out in the army, too: (Away Without Offial Leave); "Posh" started in the days of the luxury steam ships, as (Port Out, Starboard Home), which was where people with first class tickets would have their cabins.
As for ROTFL, I use a wheelchair. I roll *over* the floor, laughing. I laugh a lot.
Hey geo, I just signed up for my next semester at my college... I decided to take an American Sign Language class!! My goal is to not need the captions for your videos by next summer!!
@seekgeo I will! It will be my fourth language! I can speak English (obviously), Spanish, German and in due time ASL! I'm really pumped for it!!
P.S. about the video - I totally been talking like that lately haha - I'll say "lol" or "omg" instead of the actual words... now im self conscious about it :p
