  • iThink Prince might have co written the song and provided keyboards and such. inspiration was from 1983's Little Red Corvette and he might have been smitten by her also. does anybody blame him.

  • Shut up about the drugs on every video. It's very unimportant. Listen to the beautiful music and watch the beautiful Stevie. That's all that matters.

  • Who cares who wrote this song? Stevie looks hot, even coked out.

  • where is my David??????? /cangelosi or hall lol

  • Prince settled the Stand Back contribution debate during a Dec. 2010 interview on 103.5 KTU Radio This Morning. You can still find the mp3 file. She did call him while recording and he did show up at the studio about an hour later. He said he did not play play keyboards on the record and did not write the music. He programmed the drums., which confounded Stevie and her people He implied that Stevie couldn't figure out what he was doing and made an assumption. Plus it was 83. She was high.

  • @pekoe

Yeah, the whole performance looks like it's in slow motion because she's so out of it, especially the dance sequence (which I love) with the dude who just randomly pops in for a quickie and then disappears. But you have to give it to her that being stoned out of her mind rarely subtracted even one iota from the professionalism of her LIVE performances, i.e., she actually sang in her LIVE performances, and that is something she can always fall back on. No one can take that away from her.

  • Prince was indeed invited to sit in on the session of this song and contributed

the slamming keyboard track that dominates this song and helped it become

    a huge hit!

    Go Prince!

  • she is bad to the bone!

  • awesome...this was actually "live"!!!!

    the vocals at least

    ya... most were lip sync

  • She did Stand Back and Nightbird on Saturday Night Live about the same time with guest host Flip Wilson. Those performances used to be here till the big bad machine NBC took them away and didn't even have the decency to put them on their website.

They are even better than the Solid Gold ones.

  • @mikal214

So true. That SNL performance of Stand Back was amazing! Stevie and her band were on fire!!. That may be the best musical performance I've ever seen on SNL!!

  • this song was written by prince

  • No, "Stand Back" wasn't written by Prince. Stevie wrote it after hearing one of his songs. Prince came to the studio and played a little on the track.

  • @seegtunes - Stevie may have added some to the song, but Prince did write it!

  • @innamorata40: Stevie wrote the lyrics for Stand Back on the day she got married. It was not a joyous day as most weddings are. Prince became part of the collaboration because she liked a particular song of his and asked him to come into the studio to collaborate on the music of Stand Back. He came, added the great synthesizer/keyboard riff, and the rest is history.

  • @innamorata40 No...Stevie called Prince on the day they were recording this tune at Sunset Sound in LA and he played the 16th note (De-da, De-da, De-da) on synth. That was his only contribution. Stevie wrote this after hwearing little red corvette on the radio. True story.

  • This song was not written by prince...when Stevie spoke of the creation of this song she said....she was inspired to write it while listening to Little red corvette on her car radio. "Prince came into my studio one night, made 'some' arrangements to the song...and we never met again...." in Stevie's words.

  • luv Marilyn McCoo shes a great entertaine

is that Sharon Celini bckup singing dam she looks skinny she needs a big fat chessburger and fries with a Shake

  • cool

  • this performance rocks. love everything about it..except for that super lame dancer that pops out. so gay.

  • i think he was the lead dancer in the video .... but you're rite - so gay !! lol .. the music video for this song was pretty gay too with the dancin - cept for stevie - she was beautiful as usual.

  • "So one man said he could not stay... I said well darlin' goodbye... Now go away"

    Love it!

  • one of my favorite performances...energy was very haunting..stevie look beautiful. from hair to her size to her red witchy outfit. you can tell she was realy feeln herself that night. she's bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I didn't mean to send that yet-I was going to say a greatly edited version of the Stand Back performance (only about a minute or so)was shown some time later on some "best of Solid Gold" show, or something like that.

  • I tape recorded both performances, and seem to remember both being from the same broadcast, but on here Stand Back is introduced as her "former top ten hit" Unfortunately I don't have the tape anymore. My memory could be bad, but I could also swear the Solid Gold broadcast was sometime before the December 1983 SNL show

There was also a greatly editted rebraidcast of sttandBack

  • I loVE the change in the lyric - "One man said that he could not stay so I said well than go away" - truly empowering

  • Sorry I stand corrected - the words are "One man said that he could not stay, I said well darling then go away" still VERY empowering

  • Nice ad Lib, wish she would do that more these days! And not just on Christine songs lol!

  • this is awesome!!! thanks for posting

  • i read that they tried to get her to lip sync this one but because she had so much trouble with it they just let her sing it live...

which is soo much better anyway!

    LOVIN THIS!!!

  • TY! I love this performance, this is my fav Stevie track

  • Modern day rock bimbos take notes this how you become the queen of rock. Not looking too bright for you britney!

  • Modern day rock bimbos take notes. This is how you become the queen of rock. Not looking too bright for you Britney.

  • Stevie is one of the ONLY performers to every sing live on Solid Gold.

  • Not necessarily...

The Bellamy Brothers sang "Let Your Love Flow" live on a 1982 show.

Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes sang "Up Where We Belong" live in late 1982.

Stevie Wonder sang "Part Time Lover" live in 1985.

  • the guitarist behind her dances like a dork.

but her dance with brad is pretty cool

  • Thanks for taping this. Did you tape Nightbird that night?

  • Nightbird was another show and was on January 1984. This was much later that year but still 1984.

  • come on now--la la la la la la la l a

    ys---tokin an just kickin back

  • go stevie for not lip-syncing! i can only think of 3 occasions where she lip-synced:

-1989- rooms on fire, top of the pops (stevie actually did a singback later that year on some european tv show- but her live vocal sounded flat as due to the klonopin)

    -1990- fleetwood mac in japan

-1998- silver springs on some german tv show. why the hell did fm lip-sync a live song?

  • I'd say you are correct.

I think she lip-synced because Silver Springs is very tough on her vocal chords, I can only imagine she was trying to preserve her voice for upcoming tour dates...

  • This is funny, the lady said she was singing one of her "classics" Stand Back. This was in 84 and Stand Back came out in 83....LOL funny

  • The "lady" was Marilyn McCoo (sp?)...a classic in her own right

  • Yeh. McCoo is true superstar also. Marilyn McCoo "You don't have to be a star baby to be in my show."

  • so your point?!

  • @magikbymoonlight Well it did become a classic of hers

  • @magikbymoonlight : They just meant it was not a current Top 40 song. DJs use the term "golden oldie" in the same way.

  • My hair is still similar to hers. And I love it.

  • Wow, did that bring back memories! I loved to watch Solid Gold, and what a great performance she did. I am glad she sang live. I had to chuckle, my hairstyle was similar to hers..ah, the 80's. Thanks for sharing, that was great!

  • its kewl that ya'll all like stevie, but dont put down solid gold or the dancers....they were awesome.....lame was uncalled for.....

  • This is one woman who will never be accused of lip syncing!

  • I hated the way bands always had to lip sync on their crappy show.... awesome that she wanted to do it live, how cool is that.. great stuff !

  • Stevie Nicks is one of the BEST!

  • Love it! "He said... Welcome and goodbye... Now go away..."

  • Never seen this.... !! thanks for the post..!

  • Thanks!

  • one of my favorite sb performances. stevie at her vocally witchiest!

  • great video.. thank you

  • Glad u enjoyed it

  • STEVIE NICKS RULES!
