  • fyi, "triple threat" is jargon in theatre for someone who excels in singing, dancing and acting.

so she's right in using that term.

  • the only pop comic which is actually even slightly good.

  • he kinda look like a crazy prisoner because of his shirt x)

  • hm! didn't know he lived in ny. interesting. anyway...i love this guy.

  • @lillagah He doesn't. I do believe he was just staying there. Lives in London.

  • чувак! ты генеален!

  • Sounded like she said penis when she said pianist xD

  • Triple Threat Tim Minchin - she named four

    Comedian and Musician - OK

    Pop-Comedian - Well, OK

ROCK N' ROLL MEGASTAR TIM MINCHIN - You did it, Tim, you are not the RocknRoll Nerd anymore xD

I find these subtexts hilarious xD

  • TOO MUCH BLINKING WTF WHY DO YOU FUCKING BLINK SO MUCH

  • @RobbyDanger1990 When your on camera like that, they have ridiculously bright lights pointing right at. So anybodies natural reaction to something like that, would be to blink rapidly.

  • kids, stop watching TV ..NOW.

  • WHAAAAAAT

When someone says Tim Minchin is going to be interviewed on the ABC I expect it to be the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. If you mean the American Broadcasting Corporation you should say so.

after all the guy is Australian.

  • @celestialsalamander I'm sorry the internet does not meet your expectations. Oddly enough, both America and Australia start with the same letters, and therefore both companies have the same abbreviations. If you've an issue with this, feel free to write either of them an angry letter.

Tim was born and lives in England, so technically, he's more English than Aussie.

  • @Equihan

are you sure he was born in englasd? because he grew up in perth.

  • @celestialsalamander Yep. Northhampton, I believe. Moved to Perth and grew up there - went to UWA then WAAPA, I think, then moved to Melbourne to get his band going (I think it was 'Timmy the Dog' at that stage). Once he started to do his comedy stuff, he took it back to the UK to get famous.

  • @Equihan Were either of his parents Australian?

  • @celestialsalamander Of that I'm unsure; he doesn't talk about his family very often at all besides the material in his show. I believe he at least has a sister in the UK.

  • @Equihan Hmmm, but in one of his stand up acts he states he was born and bred in Perth, Western Australia. In fact you can listen to it here on YouTube - the clip is titled: Tim Minchin Stand Up. But maybe he's just humouring the audience?

  • @cloudiecat Definitely humouring the audience. Tim's material from his shows is rarely 100% true. Check out his website - or if they've taken the old bio down, his wikipedia page.

  • @celestialsalamander His parents were both Australian, but they moved over to the UK at some point.. he was born in England, and then moved back to Australia when he was a baby

  • This interview is a perfect example of theatre vs. reality. TV is horrible today.

  • whats up with tims face /skin at 1:59?

  • @ittaBIT27 Just the video footage going funny, methinks.

  • @ittaBIT27 Artifacts from shitty video compression. Typical from MPEG2 TT and similar codecs.

  • Thanks for sharing this. Long live Tim Minchin!

  • lol

  • This is the only American interview I've seen of Tim. Interesting "coincidence" that neither the interviewer nor Tim himself gets around to mentioning the word "religion", even considering that some of his very best songs are about skepticism. Makes you think maybe the interview wasn't as spontaneous as one might think.

  • Meh. I wouldn't overstate that. Religion is important to Tim, but you can get through a five minute inverview with him without questioning the origin of the kosmos and not imply foul play.

  • @LynxChan it's a lot easier to question/mock religion in England than it is in America. In America, if you do that on TV you will get a flurry of angry letters and probably some death threats. ABC would probably lose a lot of viewers.

  • Triple threat, then says "Singer, Songwriter, Pianist and Performer" I dont know if its just me, bu isnt that four things?

  • 'Singer-songwriter'

  • she says all 4, then moves onto the next question...

  • I thought triple threat meant Actor, Singer and Dancer??

  • I'd always thought it was "triple fret", not "triple threat"...

Did I get it wrong, or did they?

  • Its Triple Threat

  • he was being sarcastic when he said that I believe. Or at least flippant

  • Anybody else hear a high-pitched squeal throughout this video? It's really annoying.

  • nope

  • Nope, just you. You might have tenitus.

  • i hear it, but its reall faint and kinda easy to ignore-for me anyway

  • i hear it!

  • yeah i hear it

  • oh, you too? sometimes the squeal tells me to burn things.

  • at this point... tim does seem to be becoming what they labeled him in the interview... he sure is my idol... and my hero at that... MAS to this interview

  • tim minchin is great and all like i think he's awsome, but is he a megastar? coz i don't know many people that have heard of him, unless thats just my area...

  • i love how he says "advertisements"

  • Hes a legend!

  • he he, triple threat, but she listed four items...

  • yeah hes also apparently a SELF PROCLAIMED megastar....has he ever said that? I'd doubt it lol

  • @2007PHATE the closest i can think is 'i am so f*cking rock' but i guess they didnt understand his humour then.

  • @lim044 And she wanted his dick :) lolololol 5 ITEMS

  • @RobbyDanger1990 agreed. glad someone wrote this comment so that i didn't have to

  • He actually looks like a convict when he first appears, especially with "triple threat" underneath him XD

  • "if you need any help just ask"

"okay, im gonna do that, im gonna call you every night"

    hahahahahahahahaha

  • Ah, so sad I didn't know about Tim Minchin in time to go see him when he was here in the states. He's quite funny and I dig the look.

  • U mean Tim Minchin isnt in NY anymore?

  • No, he's not.

  • He lives in London.

  • Ha, he looks so uncomfortable!

  • She said triple threat... and then listed 4 things...

    Math fail

  • Hahahaha

  • yesss

  • Mahoosive Fail there sweetheart!

  • lollollollollollol

  • @DietBroccoli you can be a triple threat AND be a quadruple threat. you simply can't be a quadruple threat if you're only a triple threat. math fail.

  • @DietBroccoli Singer/Songwritter is considered one

  • yay

  • Ahh why am I watching Tim Minchin interviews when I should be revising for my GCSE's?

Ah well, Tim is worth it :P

  • same i should be revising for my highers (a levels) but i dont care tim is amazing

  • Woo! lol

  • same :D

  • Final year uni exam tomorrow! I win on the whole escapism thing!!

  • hehe yeah i'm watching him instead of revising for gcses too

  • Thank god im not the only one! Oh well, its the hols at the moment =]

    Tim is great! My Idol

  • Rock and Roll Mega - Star

    Triple Threat Minchin

    Pop - Comedian

I like how the Americans hyped him up in this interview. It's also nice to see that some have a sense of humour outside the difference between white and negro people.

    Thanks for posting Han ^_^

  • I honestly believe he's starting to become what they call him. Have you heard his new album? It's intense, in a fantastic way.

    You're welcome. ^_^

  • @Equihan lol well i cant believe someone just said "negro",,, not offended it just like as if one had said "niffty" what year is it, 19-diggity 2?

  • @pckid17 I say nifty all the time. XD; Or at least quite regularly. 8D;;

  • you have excellent humour mate, quite like mine

  • Is there an upload of his act at 4:13 where his shirt is undone and he acts coyly? Ya, I'm unemployed and have way too much time on my hands.

  • Yeah, it won't let me post the link, but just search for "Tim Minchin - Canvas Bags (So Live 2007)"

  • I love that the banner with the interviewee's name and occupation says "ROCK N' ROLL MEGASTAR TIM MINCHIN" - I bet Tim would laugh at that!

  • I'd have to disagree - the gives him a certain rebellious air, in my opinion.

  • Hmm, I suppose so, but then his facial structure's fairly common.

That comment above should have said "the eyeliner". Typo. Sorry.

  • I can't believe a US news station would play those parts of his song at the beginning. Masturbation and menstruation? Aren't those things banned from our TV? Very awesome interview though, I didnt know he was in New York now.

  • It probably depends what time it was aired. I dunno about the US, but in Australia, they'll only play those sorts of things late at night, or they'll censor them.

He's not in new york at the moment - his tour over there was quite a while ago.

  • This video is great! I can't believe I've just now found it. Thanks for this Equihan. Do you know if Tim ever had any singing lessons? I just love the guy, his talent, his voice, his accent. He's marvelous. I love his new song "Drowned". Listen to it all the time.

  • You're very welcome! I'm not sure if Tim ever had singing lessons, unfortunately. I know he played piano till grade two, but I've never asked him about singing. If youwant to know, you can go to the fan forum (google Tim Minchin fan site) and post a question in the "questions" section for Tim to answer; or you could go to his official website and ask him via the "contact" section. "Drowned" is one of my favourite songs at the moment. Have you heard both the acoustic and new movie version?

  • Yes, I've heard both. Someone had the acoustic version on their MySpace. I prefer

the one on his website. I need that drum crescendo towards the end. I've been listening to it over and over all week. Sad to say it strikes a resounding chord with my life. But even if it didn't I love the music and Tim's singing. Beautiful!

  • Cofcfemmes, he was in the choir when he was younger :)

  • haha! "I'm gona phone you every night" - 2:03 something about how he said that made me crack up

  • oh god its so funny seeing that perfectly preened inanely grinning woman juxtaposed with Tim's scruffy lovable self. he is so sexy, his face is so expressive. his wife is definitely a lucky woman

  • Eeeeh I love him. Funny bastard <3

  • 18/03/08, I think.

  • aww hes such a sweetie!

  • Isn't he just? ^_^

  • especially with the words "triple threat" underneath him!

    and he is the greatest

  • He is from Australia, sounds like he did well in the states, however he did miss the Melbourne International.

  • Yes, but he will be back at the MICF next year with his new show!

  • Haha. Another thing I've heard someone call Tim. The last one was hobo. xD He is the greatest.
