Where can you download this? I have problems with my internet and can only access it at irregular intervals, and so I would like to be able to do this routine regularly. Can anyone help with downloads? Preferably in mp4 format. Thank you for posting this up, by the way!
im a martial artist, i dont take capoeira like a martial art it is more like an art of culture combat, but not martial, anyway i think they have the best conditioning training so im going to try it out
@Dunam- I agree Dunam that "bounce stretching" can be bad for your muscles & ligaments! However, this is conditioning movements and IF one is properly warmed (should take oneself 5-7 minutes) up PRIOR to these movements. Then, there should NOT be a problem. Of course, when starting any exercise program consult a doctor or certified trainer!!! Stay smart & healthy... Peacefully Stay, -Jeff
@562ole I think capoeira would help with MMA, as a conditioning tool and to teach fighters how to move well. Anderson Silva, and Shogun Rua allegedly played capoeira.
you see =-= i cant do this shit. i cant even do a freaking karate =-='. god i suck i just started 2 months ago and im abuot to give up. everybody in the class been doing it since they were kids im 19 god i wish i started when i was 4 like them
@xbimpyx I started late too. Know what helps me? Stretching and mobility exercises. I do some stuff from yoga, and even a few ballet stretches. Since I was never an athlete as a child, I have muscles that are not flexible enough. All martial arts require a high degree of back and hip mobility. Since I started stretching more, my ability to do the moves in capoeira has increased.
Great video nickmah! It's a great workout that gives your body the fit that your body needs. And, like you said, it's part of Capoeira's "young" history, Back in those days it looked like this, in Mestre Bimba's day's it was diferent, like it was diferent when slaves used it. All documents are precious. Thank's for the post's.
4 years since i did this training 3 times peer week for a years, i could do everything...but now after 4 years being lazy i can't do all with their speed <.<
wow this is like Capo HIIT training. As soon as my food digests, I'm gonna have a go at this. It's my cardio day anyway, might as well stay home and do this routine!
dudes the guy in the right (amen) is the guy from "only the strong " who plays Mark Dacascos teacher in the movie as well as his teacher for the style wow he looks different
At 9:12 how do you do that push-up thing when you're all spread out like that. I tried it and ended up just feebly bending my arms back and forth toward the ground.
Isn't that ballistic stretching? For some reason it looks a little dangerous for the muscles... Just what I was taught in physical education class, can someone clarify?
these guys are mestres (masters). That means they've been training their bodies with dedication for years. Thus, these exercises are shown at a)full speed b) maximum tension and stretch. Me and probably u as well, should just start off easily and build up on tension as we get better, fitter and more flexible ;) Otherwise, these are perfectly ok to do, unless you have some kind of pathological or orthopedic issue in which case you must consult a doctor. Happy training :)
i took martial arts for 11 years, started when i was 3...took about 2 years off, this conditioning is killer...i'm starting it though, i wanna learn capoeira REALLY bad
I doubt you'll have a stroke unless it's some cosmic coincidence. A heart attack, on the other hand...
Gave you a thumbs up for effort, though :). If you really do weight 250lbs, you may want to start off at a lower level of exercise, such as jogging or fast walking and work your way up from there.
I've never practiced capoeira before, but I've experience in several martial arts and to answer your question YES! I would caution though, with something this athletic and mobile I would suggest learning the technique first so you understand proper alignment. If not, the weights might hurt you, good luck!
I respect the health decisions of others but I have to ask. Has there ever been a obese capoerista or mestre? I see this art as not only a martial art or part of my african side of culture but as a fun way to stay healthy.
i do know this capoeirista that is heavy set, but he looks very healthy. They call him a beast because he's thick, has long hair, and very flexible and capable of doing many flips. Capoeira i very good for almost all people willing to put in the work.
I'm hardly an expert, but I doubt there would be an "obese" Maestre. "Pudgy?" "Husky?" "Heavy-set?" "Stout?" I suppose so...after all Hong Kong "chop-socky" vet Sammo Hung is built like a bag of cookie dough stuffed with gummi bears, yet is astonishing nimble (enough to keep up with Jackie Chan during his film career). But I can't imagine someone being "obese" and managing to keep up with the physical demands of this art, which even relative to TKD, Savate, or Karate are intense.
Forward bend, like Dandayamana, has the potential for knee hyperextension I think. And then that rotating knee thing, no I wouldn't do that. Really, there's at least 3 stretches I wouldn't do in there, all for the sake of my knees. I like for them to work. That being said, it's no worse than putting too many plates on and doing squats.
This is a very old video and some of the conditioning exercises should be examined as research shows the joint stress that some of these place on you are very bad in the long run. There are variations of these to fit today's fitness & wellness world.
honestly, well this is to me, I find no conditioning is needed. Most classes (or mine anyway) conditioned us similarly DURING class, so its basically just self teaching what will be actually taught to you.
They lay out the foundations you need in conditioning as far as physical strength and flexibility go, so it would a really good idea to do these regularly.
I train in karate and after seeing this, I'm gonna implement these conditioning for my workout routine. I also hope to learn capoeria. Very good for flexibility.

wish that there was a capoeira school near my town.... i wanna learn the art sorta, oh well i got plenty of other arts to train in any way, and i can master the art through this vid
actually my tecaher told me the history that when the western people captured Black people and made them into a slave, but in that time they where chaned up to thier leges which they couldent move exececpt jumping or skipping, but they traned them self sicretly and they had the chance to escape, they trick the western enemy with there moves as it look like they are dancing in a confusin, but what could i say Capoiera is the most interesting martial art ive ever seen.

I think that capoeira isn't the thing "i can tell".
my opinion is that these films were made to popularize capoeira among european and american public (as a SELF DEFENSE). Western public had its own ideas how self defense must look and be taught. So they made it as their american producers wanted it from them. And it still is capoeira even in such a representation. And still can help in learning some basics.
