If only I could of had Thomas Sowell as a teacher when I was in school. Agree with him or not, he has a way of getting people to think for themselves. He is a true treasure.
@2ProtectnEntertain I began a rapid transition from left-wing college student to right-wing professor that was immediately halted when I realized that the right respects Sean Hannity. That man is a mindless cheerleader with no understanding of the principles he thinks he advocates. I got stuck somewhere in libertarian land...
@darwinkilledgod If you believe in the right wing ideology you don't generalize, just because "some" people respect Hannity, it does not mean all do, remember that you must believe in the individual and not the collective mind set.
I wish this was shown to every college student at the beginning of every semester. Then maybe we would not be graduating students who know what to say in a PC society as opposed to how to think for themselves.
Thomas Sowell says more in a single paragraph than most will say in a lifetime. It's amazing to me that a man like this is not in the white house and that instead we elect charlatans like the man occupying the oval office right now. Is that a waterfall I hear up ahead?
@2ProtectnEntertain - Oh no! I sound like a guy I've only seen once! How is this possible? Because a Ron Paul Cultists saw their leader attacked by Hannity during the 08 primaries? This is why people are feeling that Ron Paul supporters are Cultists. You're so stupid to think that I sound anything like Hannity. You're actually stupid. Your exuberance for Ron Paul has made you stupid. I'm not "misrepresenting his POV" at all. I belong to C4L. I've read Ron's work. I KNOW his POV assclown.
@thomaserossi You referred to his consideration of the concept of blowback as a "cult" that isn't foreign policy - despite the number of ex-CIA and ex-military that are supporting him based on that concept. How is that not misrepresentation?
@2ProtectnEntertain - The Cult of Blowback isn't foreign policy. It's the delusion that Muslims hate us because we're "over there." That's not "foreign policy." That's a complete ignorance of the past 14 Centuries. If an Arab opened a Mc Donald's Franchise in Saudia Arabia we'd be "over there" as far as Muslims are concerned. That isn't "fundamentalism" in the least, that's just Sharia.
No wonder leftists flock our universities and schools, they are taught what to think from the systematically indoctrination from only one political point of view. It´s not very odd then that most who vote "left" or "liberal" are mostly young people with little experience in life and in the workforce. They tend to think with their heart rather than with their head.
@2ProtectnEntertain I am not sure about that. Sowell does have some foreign policy differences with Paul, but I am sure he would prefer Paul over any other potential candidate. Even Ann Coulter, the ultimate neocon, has hinted at supporting Paul. Has Sowell ever commented on Ron Paul that you know of?
@InternetDisciple This is because the fundamental flaw of human nature is that for everyone Freedom isn't enough without some level of Security. Conservatives look to themselves for that Security; Leftists look to government for a variety of reasons, but one of them is that they are impressed with govt. power. They see govt. win wars, build roads, lock people up, send people into space and believe that power can be applied to solve their poverty.
"This [Constitution] is likely to be well administered for a course of years, and can only end in despotism, as other forms have done before it, when the people shall become so corrupted as to need despotic government, being incapable of any other."
… I propose in the following discussion to call one’s own labor and the equivalent exchange of one’s own labor for the labor of others, the “economic means” for the satisfaction of needs, while the unrequited appropriation of the labor of others will be called the “political means.”
Too many people look externally for the "solution" to all of their "problems". Job growth is job growth to them, for example (no matter if it's from the work of private enterprise or another economically useless make-work spending program). Even after 2 years of leftist insanity, anyone who is trying to solve problems is turning into the bad guy. We've already given away our Republic.
The federal government assumes unlimited power and authority to do pretty much anything they please. Latest assault on the USA, freedom, the constitution and capitalism is Obama's administration siding with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union which blocked Boeing from manufacturing 787 Dreamliners in South Carolina, a red & right-to-work-state. So this bully unions and this administration FORCES Boeing to manufacture planes through unions... or Mexico!
The fact that the metro progressive corporatist media complex will never go anywhere near a great man like Thomas Sowell tells you just how horrifically corrupt with yellow journalism, the forth estate is.
Society holds activity first over inactivity. Any form of government will eventually become an active part in the citizens life. There is no value in life or freedom, other than what we give to each other. Our Constitution is a failed experiment. Not because people don't want to remain free, but because people demand action for better or for worse. Limited government works far better than any other form of governance, but our species is simply not prone to it. The battle was over before it began
@groam6666 People have become so corrupt they are incapable of any other form of government but a despotic one. That is the end result, we can tell this by the huge resistance against rolling government back on any front.
@LokiScoutSniper I agree, I find it sad that it's like this, but it's just reality. I think we can tweak the government and pull it back a little, but not to how it use to be or was intended to be. Our Constitution has a lot of upsides, but it has fought against itself in other ways that cripple it. I think it was meant to restrict political freedom, so that only one idea can be represented. It's no accident we were a one party country, or that voting was heavily restricted among the uneducated.
Unless we are willing to stand for freedom and defend it from first principles, uncompromisingly, without any shred of guilt or apology, we will lose this fight, and deservingly so.

@Simetra007 why would he want to do that? Becoming a politician would be to deny everything he believes in.
