Well they aren't going to make it. Let's just see if one american car company can top lexus/toyota in initial/mechanical quality... Not going to happen. I am more than sure. American car companies make their money by cutting corners in production. That's how they survive. Making decent automobiles is not a desired route for them even though they are capable of it.
