  • the 1966 Packers could win against any NFL team today

  • Starr had great footwork and a throwing motion that some QBs still can't possess today.

  • Go pack go

  • Do you think Aaron Rodgers can tie to this great QB? Rodgers needs one more SB and the MVP!!!

  • Best QB of the Green Bay Packers. Starr>Favre, Starr>Rodgers

  • Indeed, today's football players are bigger, stronger and faster and I mentioned this in my first comment. Despite this, I believe Starr would do very well today as the offensive linemen today have adapted to today's defensive linemen and linebackers. Starr was a master of reading defenses and avoiding interceptions and, although he might struggle at the beinning, he could adapt to today's defenses.

  • it's so funny that you guys call it "world" championship.

  • Strange that the narrator says that the Packers & Lombardi selected Starr in the 1956 draft...Lombardi was a coach for the Giants through the 1958 season.

  • Bart, by today's standards, was small, had little mobility and certainly not the strength compared to today's QBs. His offensive line (Skoronski, Thurston/Gillingham, Bowman, Kramer, Gregg, Fleming) was also smaller, not as strong, and not as speedy as today's giants. The QB role today is much different, the defenses are much better against the run (the sweep and power sweep don't work anymore) and I believe Starr, as great a master of running an offense would struggle to be good today. Thanks.

  • @davidLw15 I believe that's the case with most every player in every sport, as time progresses the athletes get bigger, faster, stronger. the like.

  • @juicepouch1

Bart Starr, if you were around from 1959 through 1971, his last season, had the most accurate arm of all the QBs of his day. Interceptions were far and few between during his illustrious career with the Packers. I would say that if he had a good offensive line, particularly tackles, that could keep up with today's speedy outside defensive ends and outside rushing linebackers, Starr could compete today. I had the pleasure of watching him watch him play in the Sixties.

  • @davidLw15 I'm not saying he couldn't succeed, just that as sports progress athletes tend to become larger and more athletic. He could and very well might succeed

  • Hey Ripper! Am I surprised to find you here?? I am not! Your comment on Starr only confirms the regard I hold for your commentary on Ivan Lendl. Unitas, Tarkington, and Marino can have their stats, I'll take Starr's championship rings every time. Cheers!

  • He took a lot of sacks rather than take chances with interceptions. He was a master at avoiding the interception! He had tremendous accuracy. Very much agree he was grossly underrated! Had the pleasure of watching the Packers and Starr through their championship years in the sixties.

  • @davidLw15 Do you think Bart could play in today's NFL?

  • Starr had the highest post season qb efficiency rating, 104. Warner is next, 102. After that it aint close, Montana at 94. Starr simply was the best qb when playing against the best teams of his era. That's a crazy number but it tells you just how good he was. That's why imo he's the best ever. When it counted, when he had to go against the premier teams, he was crazy good.

  • people talk about his all time best 9-1 recod in playoffs, well brady was 10-0 at one point but he didnt retire early he ekpt playing.

  • i got a bart starr signed green bay packers helment out of a contest should i keep it are sell it? i think its only worth $700...idk i think it shpuld be more i mean 2 time MVP hall of famer played for the best coach ever

  • There's an error with this - Bart Starr was indeed a 17th round pick of the Packers in 1956, but Vince Lombardi had nothing with him being chosen then. Lombardi was still the offensive coordinator of the Giants at that time, and was not the head coach/general manager of the Packers until 1959.

  • bart is awesome

  • Bart Starr was all class both on and off the field.

He is an example of what leadership is all about.

No wonder why he is one of the best human beings and players ever.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • Local radio show (Bob & Brian) they said a flight attendant came clean I think it was 2 summers ago not sure on the time. Google it. B&b did not want to believe it too

  • on person is a bears fan

  • my grandfather played defensive end against him in highschool

  • Bart was a fucking Starr!

  • Bart Starr- Class act. My childhood idol.

  • He cheated on his wife so not that great

  • @1D5dozer This not true. Tell me where you got this lie?

  • Lombardi was with the Giants when Starr was drafted by the Packers

  • At the stadium they told us that the very first year Lombardi coached he got to the last game before the championship, and lost. after that game he told all the players "this is the last playoff game you'll ever lose. and he was right, they went 9-1 won 5 championships and 2 super bowls legendary.

  • I coach youth football and all my starting quarterbacks wear number 15.

  • Green bay kicks ass!!!

  • Unselfish. a true gentleman and a champion 5 times over. Maybe that jerk who the Packers sent to New York can learn something from Bart about class. Hey Brad Childress, how do ya like coaching a hillbilly who is only ever thinking of himself?

  • This man still does not get the accolades he deserves....Bart Starr.

  • 5 World champions plus the first 2 superbowls. 7 titles. Best dynasty ever.

  • @aldm41 I'm sorry, I disagree. It's 5 titles in 7 seasons that include the 2 super bowl titles.

  • One of the greatest QB to play the game.

  • i love bart starr

  • One of the most underrated QB's to ever play the game,Two time superbowl MVP

  • BACK 2 FUCKIN BACK I AGREE!!!!!

  • @lamons71 Uh dude, listen to the narration - he's not underrated. He's rated. He's not overrated either. He's great. Nearest thing today is Matt Ryan or to a lesser extent Drew Brees (yes the latter is a better QB right now). Even in his day Bart Starr did not have a strong arm, but he was very smart and tough and had tons of character and leadership. It remains to be seen if a throwback to this generation will succeed in the modern NFL. Certainly Rodgers is nothing like Starr in personality.

  • He's my cousin...but I've never met him. Mom has, when they were both younger. I didn't know it was cool until I was doing my family tree stuff in 6th grade or somewhere around there...all the boys gasped in shock!!! :) Until then, I really had to clue...

  • @lstrubbe Awsome

  • he made football famous like nichael jordan make basketball famous and babe ruth made baseball famous. in my opinion i think thats why some sports are famous

  • True....Lombardi did NOT draft Starr. He was already there win Vince arrived...That credit should go to scout Jerry Vanessi. He also drafted Nitschke, J Kramer, Gregg, Taylor, Hornung, Thurston, R Kramer {TE} Hanner, Currie. and Ringo.

Sadly, he did not live to see the fruits of his labor as he died in 1961 at age 33 of cancer.

Maybe the best scout the Pack has ever had and one of the best in NFL history...

  • I hate to admit it but 5 world championships is better than any quarterback. Maybe Tom Brady can tie or beat him all records fall. But look at all he has won not his stats. Remarkable.

  • Bart Starr was a great QB, one of my favorites back then, even though I was a Bear fan. As a kid, I can remember being at Wrigley and watching the 'horror' of one of his patented 3/1 long passes going all the way for a TD into the end zone where we sat.

But he was fortunate to play on a team and system that was a winning machine, with a great defense and running game, and a completely driven coach. Nonetheless, it was great watching him play, I loved his passing touch!

  • @Drackkor team wins superbowl not him so u cant say that stats show a good QB not rings

  • @Drackkor Otto Graham and Paul Brown's 7 championships are the only thing that can argue with it.

  • Roll Tide!

  • Best QB ever, both on and off the field.

  • Favre blows

  • Mr. Starr is extremely nice, one of a kind QB!

  • i love bart starr and brett farve

  • @theplayersamigo Do you like Aaron Rodgers now that he won a super bowl and has a super bowl mvp?

  • Bart is the MVP of all time....period.

  • There is an error in this video. Lombardi didn't draft Bart Starr; he was already on the roster when Lombardi was hired.

  • Bart Starr is amazing, my hero!!

  • Vince Lombardi didn't draft Bart Starr in 1956. Lombardi was with the New York Giants then. He didn't join the Green Bay Packers until 1959.

  • You are right. Lombardi brought out the best in every player. Nitchski was drafted as a full back. Washed out there. Became a middle linebacker and the rest is history.

  • Lombardi did not join the Packers until 1959. He had nothing to do with drafting Bart Starr.

  • I never said he did.

  • I am referring to the documentary not to your coments.

  • packers fans love him go bart starr

  • Many people dont know that Bart Starr had many injuries he overcame and Alabama had a 1-10 season without him because he was on the bench with a bad back. He was a long shot but Green Bay to a chance on him and look what happened ?

  • lamyourb, i shook Barts hand in '92 in Tuscaloosa (the 100 years of football parade), only because i told him i was named after him.

  • i put Bart Starr #1, but i am named after him, my dad went to school with Bart at Alabama. RMFT (Roll Mutha F%$&* Tide)

  • I knew this guy who's cousin once shook the hand of a guy that had a dream that he was Bart Starr.

Now I'm better than you. 0.0

  • Great man!

I wish the NFL had more people like Bart Starr!!

It would be an even better league!!!

    George Vreeland Hill

  • For me its 1. Favre, 2. Dickey 3. starr

  • Roll Tide

  • now who's better bart starr or brett favre?

  • Bart Starr is better than Favre in terms of quaterback efficiency. Starr became a better quarterback in the playoffs, his efficiency ratings increased, while Favre's never got better. When you want to win, you don't go with the gunsligner, you go with the QB that runs the offense the most efficiently. That was Starr.....

  • ya thats what i always thought. starr is way more accurate in my opinion too

  • I think so as well. He didn't have the rifle arm that could heave it 70-80 yards, but then an offense really lives with a QB that can hit the 15-30 yard pass consistently, ala Joe Montana.

  • very true always consistent and always won when he needed too, again like joe montana. brett favre is great but he's a little overated for some of his dumb decisions that cost him all of his INT's

  • bart starr is awesome!!!!!!

  • Im related to bart starr

  • i bet you are

    NOT!!

  • Lol, Why would I lie? Not everyone wakes up and say's hey im getting on youtube and lie to everyone and tell them im related to someone that im not. If you don't believe me lol fuck you who gives a shit im not trying to use him as my claim to fame, I was just saying hey im related to bart starr.

  • My dad met Bart Starr

  • My Dad WAS Bart Starr, in a former life.

  • We need more Bart Starrs in the world instead of PAcman Jones.

  • My dad was Pacman Jones in a former life, make it rain player
