Bandage client using sealed telfa pads. Plastic wrap is unacceptable.
A & D ointment or its equivalent is used. The ointment soothes the skin, keeps it moist and prevents the bandage from sticking. Plastic wrap is considered unacceptable because it does not breathe. This retards the healing process and creates an environment that encourages bacterial growth.
From a medical standpoint this makes a lot of sense. However for the larger pieces you really don't have much of a choice, so you'll need to clean several times a day, re-moisturize, and re-wrap.
That said here is what a few of the professional tat orgs are saying on the matter of saran wrap and what to do instead:
it is 14x9cm and its on the leg, im wondering, is it bad if u have a thick layer of that moisturisingshit? i mean, they say u shouldnt soak it but i dont know if that counts
