this is my 50 times visiting this video, thanks for uploading and sharing, the first gymnast to tumble a double layout to punch front somersault, La prima sportiva la cascada o dubla structura sa loveasca fata tumba
I really dig her dance , she so fun to watch , make wanna try her dance moves ,so different from other gymasts , I would give her a 10 and gold she cool in my book
This is a question for any knowledgable gymnastics fans....I spot a definate 'x' on the floor here....is that a sort of 'spotter' for the gymnasts to know where the springs are??? im sure ive heard the floor is sprung in a certain area....or maybe springer in certain parts?? not as springy around the outer part than inwards..... I dont see this nowdays tho!?!
omg...this was insanely wild gymnastics back then...how can gymnastics NOW be compared to gymnastics BACK THEN when theyve been performing difficulties way way way way back...gymnastics today sux...
OMG what a fucking loud crowd making noise with those stupid horns. They didnt even pay attention to this routine like they should have. Very odd...notice as a result, Holland was never given the Worlds ever again.
or a local newschannel, and still get fired for given the wrong info :-)
Surprise : Check where this years Worldchampionships take place, yes in the exact same stadium.
Perhaps you should realise the Netherlands is not such a big country, don't you think that is a more obvious reason not to have worldchampionships that often ?
@morrissuy I wasnt aware that Holland got them again. I dont think size has anything to do with it, it is probably with the country that has the logistics such as travel and hospitality and location. That is why, morrissuy, that you dont see them being held so much in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Ukraine, and Egypt. All of them are large countries. Perhaps you might want to "realise" (ugh, European English) that.
To Tuesday Pillow, all those gymnasts were on Worlds teams. Worlds and Olympics counted, not just the Olympics. Mostepanova never submitted the skill for name consideration; that's why it's name after Onodi.
i was 10 years old then and used to watch the video of this competetion over and over again! i remember this was one of my favourites routines and the crowd went wild
i agree with whatthebuckshow, this is better and more entertaining than the crap we see today, that is stuff done by romanians, americans and russians.
in 1987 when this championshios happen Romania was a communist country and there were only 2 hours of TV/day and only one channel. I was 11 years old and we were watching this championships to the Bulgarian TV on improvised antenas. I really doubt that she ever seen anything else besides the training hall and her team mates ;)
I greatly appreciate your videos, but I have to say it is very annoying to see the text be in all caps. Do you think next time you can use regular text?
@GYMANGELS - I dont see the problem either gymnangels considering you go to the godamn trouble of uploading these onto YT !!!!! (apologies this is 3years after the message above! ) think I can put up with caps or lowercase! what are some people like....pffffft
Double layout punch front!! Even these days, gymnasts almost never do!! She was truly renovative and brave. This is a phenomenal routine! Not only with her authentic dancing but also incredible tumbling passes filled with flawless execution. What a shame that she didn't even have a chance to compete in event final. Instead,Dobre went to final to win bronze. Romania was invincible at that time with star dust members.
Romania truly pushed the envelope back then trying to out perform the Soviets. Voinea's floor for 1987 was astonishing! No Romanian floor exercise was more difficult until Cristina Bontas pulled out a full-twisting double layout for her opening pass during the 1991 season...However, Voinea's floor was much more entertaining and wonderfully choreographed. She would've been a hit in the US at the NCAA's. Collegiate gymnasts love using modern dance music for their floor exercise.
Wait...I recant...Silivas pulled a rabbit out of the hat to become the 2nd woman to perform a double twisting-double back in 1988...second to A. Priahkina (URS) who did it first for a woman a year before.
Yes, but to have it named after you you have to do it at a Worlds or Olympics. Thats why I doubted it being named after Aleftina Priakhina-Daniela did it first at the Seoul Olympics, which is why its named the Silivas after her.
That's an excellent question...I'm not sure what the answer is! Cause Mostepanova was around the same time period but she never made it into the code.
Are you sure about Aleftina? I thought she did the double-double as a bars dismount? Dani got it named after her-the Silivas. She was the first woman to do a fullinfullout.
Not only was she not a World team member, but back then the skill had to be done at an Olympics only to be named after you. Example: Mostepanova doing an Onodi at the '83 Worlds.
YEP!!!!We really had had great gymnasts during the past 30 years. And thinking that there are as many gymnasts in the whole country as they are in one school of gymnastics in USA:O This is the most interesting thing:D

This is the most original routine i have ever seen in gymnastics.

awesome music. anyone know what it is?
nastierlookin 8 months ago
the only thing that could possibly make this routine better is if the commentator would shut up about Aurelia Dobre.
Aurelia's great, but so was Camelia.

The audience used the same horns during the '89 Worlds in Germany. It was really noticiable during the team competition.

@metsdudenj LOL. After that fiasco with the Brazilian crowd at the 2007 Pan Americans, I'm surprised they handed them the 2016 Olympics.

Back then only the Olympics counted, not Worlds. That's why the Onodi isn't called the Mostepanova even though she did it at the '83 Worlds.

That makes no sense. Why then are there skills named after Shishova, Yurchenko, and Gurova, all of which were not Olympians?
