I agree with you monkey1monk. Except with Brian and not egoman Edwin. Edwin's voice just isn't up to par anymore to come back and do IME and IME is to good a band to ruin it with bad vocals or not so strong anymore vocals like Edwins.
love this song but I was just listening to "Rare Earth - King of the Mountain" and it sounds like this riff was lifted from that song. BTW Rare Earth are the fathers of funk rock
Maaaan, this song and the first two IME albums were amazing, BUT...I feel sorry for those of you not willing to give their last two albums a chance. Brian Byrne is a really great singer, and 'Blue, Green, Orange' and 'The Quicksilver Meat Dream' are two really really great rock albums. Give them a chance, guys!!!
this was one of the last rock n roll songs that became a hit when crappy grunge and alternative took over in the 90s. I got to hang out with them after a show back in 94. very cool band. I still listen to this album alot
i concur, Edwin, got one of those, "Hey, you're more talented than these guys, so why not go solo", then Edwin, like Raine from OLP became "no ones" and "has beens"...
I bought this cd from columbia house or bmg one of those record clubs. I'd never heard of them, but the blurb simply said something like "Hard hitting Canadian metal." I was looking to finish my 12 free picks and chose this. What a great surprise! I've loved these guys ever since.
Fun fact, IME began by practicing in my cousin's garage. They went to school with my brother and he got to see them mature through it... Quite jealous -.-
Dig was such an amazing album. Edwins voice was sick. They should bring him back and go back to playing this music, not that conformist shit they started playing after this album.
The first time I saw this video I was rolling face at a party with friends. He was like, "you got to check this video out". So I was completely blown away at this video and I Mother Earth forever afterwards. Love this video.
I want to blame popular radio and urban influences for shunning this masterpiece, somehow this song was never taken as the ground breaking masterpiece it actually is. It has every vital important influence mixed into it from Santana to Led Zeppelin to grunge elements and beyond, this song never gets old. Class musicians all the way.
I saw this video on MTV once and I heard it on the radio once. That was a long time ago. I'll never understand why considering this song is just as good, if not better, than songs made by smashing pumpkins or stone temple pilots or soundgarden. Am I right or wrong?
you're totally correct, smashing pumpkins lacked alot of elements to capture my devotion, and STP were very hit & miss, but if there were people that understood IMotherEarth why were there so many others that ignored their promising attributes?? why?
I know why. Because it wasn't on the radio and MTV much. Or someone didn't kiss someone's ass enough to promote it enough. There ARE politics in music..... Guys like us were lucky enough to catch them on the radio or MTV. When I found out about them, I showed all my friends and they loved IME! But they didn't like the CD's that came after the first one...
I actually heard alot of complaints about Edwin's voice, which I just didn't understand, his voice might have lacked a bit of range and power live but in the album it sounds perfectly good to me, he just wasn't doing that Grunge gimmick where everyone was trying to bring back the Jim Morrison style back like AIC/Pearl Jam. But if they're going to use Edwin's voice as an excuse then they just don't understand what the band was doing musically & his voice was just the right fit.
One of my favourite CD's, even though haven't listened to it in like 10 years. And one of the most under-rated guitarists alive...never flashy, but always tasteful and creative. Such a unique style.
omgi remember this!... i was really young when i saw this ... i would just tilt my head sideways and stare @ it .. then my dad would come in and be like what are you watching !!! .. lol XD

Saw them again touring for Scenery and Fish and Edwin had already started turning into a huge dick.
Then he left, thinking he'd be a big star, and that went nowhere.
And IME somehow found a singer so annoying that he made me wish Edwin and his ego would come back. Talk about wasted potential.
Still, the band put out two very impressive records.
