He had a great sense of humour during his long illness and always had time to chat to his fans after a show.. The last time i saw him was at Weston Super Mare, UK, when he was on the bill with Marty Wilde.
Sad to hear of Jet's passing on 18th March 2011. When I was a young teenager he was one of my heroes: easily the coolest member of the Shadows, if not the most talented musically and he did not have an easy life. Rest in peace, Mr Bassman.
One didn't like it. Okay, who's the hold out. The sound could've been louder but hey, that's "live"for ya. As I understand it, MBE is lower than an OBE which is a shame, but still.
I know he must miss Tony terribly and for awhile I thought they'd be back together, but wherever Tony is, he probably said, "Not yet, mate".

Jet Harris, MBE deserves all the honours that go with Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth's eventual recognition of his great bass/guitar works with the original Shadows!! Bravo!!!
Jet Harris & Tony Meehan truly deserve recognition esp. with The Shadows . To us growing up in Singapore he was the the Man behind the Shadows. We love Hank Marvin ,Bruce Welch too but Jet Harris was the Shadows.
I have never herd The Ventures version maybe you could send me the mp3 or post it up for us all to hear. I have herd many versions of Diamonds and Jet Harris and Tony meehan's version is without doubt the best.
I have just herd The Ventures version, i agree it is a very good version but is not better than Jet's. The drum solo in Jet's is longer and in my opinion overall sounds better. Both versions are very good. Thanks for your comment.

Jet Harris MBE, a very well deserved honour.
Should have been on the 50th anniversary tour 2 years ago.
It would be great to get Cliff and the Shads back for 1 last tour with Jet included.

I think this is not Germany, but Shadows Festival in Oslo 2000.
Happy 70th birthday 6 July 2009, JET HARRIS!

It is Germany but i could be wrong. What makes you think it is Oslo?
Andrewshadowy 2 years ago
No it is Oslo. I was there! The drumkit Ayotte belongs to Dag Johnsen in the Norwegian Shadows festival, and I remember the lights.

The Shadows' version is very good ! Great thanks ! Jet Harris wrote the hit. So the main merit is for him. Great thanks !

Jet did not actually write Diamonds it was Jerry "Apache" Lordan who also wrote Scarlett O' Hara for JH&TM.

The Ventures version is the best; all done on guitar including the bridge.
I still like Jet's version though.
