The only people who complain about these petty things seem to be butthurt non-Japanese people. If you look at the Japanese comments, like half of them will be "RihoRiho kawaii". I don't know what 'negative image' you're talking about, but in Japan, Morning Musume don't have a negative image.

And you know what? Current line up of Morning Musume has a wholly negative image. You can't buy their stuff anywhere any more, their shops have all closed down, they are never featured in the magazines and virtually no one knows a song they have sung since 2003. People who hear someone likes MM will quickly write them off or immediately try to correct them with AKB.

It's that they have a loyal fanbase many of whom will go out of their way to buy a Riho DVD, whereas not many of them would buy a JunJun one since she wasn't as popular. They will PROFIT and make money off Riho easier than JunJun. The money is still an important factor despite not being as popular as other girl groups at the moment and not being in all the mags and shops.

A Riho DVD can only sell to those who are loyal followers of Morning Musume (2% of the market) and those who are into watching 13-year olds cosplay and wear bikinis.

I guess the market for bikini-clad 13-year olds might be really big though without much nonanime competition.

You think TALENT has anything to do with AKB's popularity? Half of them can't sing and since none sing alone, you could never tell. Their popularity has a lot more to do with them all being above the age of 16 and dressing in lingere.

H!Ps focus is way too much on 13-year olds. That creates a negative image.
