Beautiful dog but there is lot's and lot's of GSD in here as his head is (although large small for an Akita and his stance from the front is too narrow. A dead give away is his long ears. It sounds like his Akita gene's are the dominant one's if he won't play fetch and his weight is pretty much on the money.
The photos were taking early 2006 when he was just coming up to 2yrs of age :) he is now 6 and 1/2 years old and has filled out a lot more. Its funny because most people say he is "massive" 29inch at the shoulders and 154lbs, his head is bigger than mine, and trust me, i have a big head! Then you get a few people saying "oh, my Akita is much bigger" LOL, well i'm still to see another one in the flesh that is "a lot bigger" :) he may appear to be GSD like, but trust me, hes not ;)
nah hes definately a proper american akita, they were crossed with the Japanese Tosa which gives them their stockier stucture, i have one a year and a half old and he loves to play fetch :)
Not really, my "mother in law" has 3 big boned black german shepherds, they only weigh around 35kg, were Zak weighs in at 69kg, they have much longer thinner snouts, were as Zak's it quite wide and short, their rear quarters/hind legs slope downwards, his dont, their tails are straight, his is kinked and curled, the tri colour is a typical colour for the Akita, were as shepherds are black and tan, German Shepherds will chase balls all day long, Zak wouldnt even fetch it once, LOL!
Cheers, they are great dogs, no barking, no fussing, great with kids :) is that your one with the cat?

I love the way Akita's look. I love mine, even though he is a mix.

@chowfont My Akita fetches ANYTHING I tell him to, and did so at 8 weeks old. It's a complete myth that Akita's don't fetch. Train your dog. :)
