it matters on the memory/ram and how much 1GHz you have on the computer. not as much the operating system. I have 4GB of RAM vista, with 2.16-2.17GHz processor, and 64-bit...so it's obviously gonna be different from a Macintosh...

Besides, the "48 second" Mac likely does not have the same hardware as your HP. Your boot-time benchmark test is invalid.
