i was once on a plane where the pilot was attempting to take off with the slats down. when we did take off i saw on my t.v. in front of me that the planes speed was already 700kp/h and cause i was sitting at the second row from the front i heard the pilot saying to the other pilot don't do it, do it the safe way, but he ignored and the plane was forced to make an emergency landing cause of loss of fuel. so i think the same thing happened to this plane but it crashed instead of landing.
Takeoff configuration horn activation depends on the manufacturer, but usually triggers when takeoff thrust is applied and: 1)Parking brake is set 2)incorrect trim vaue set 3) spoilers raised 4)flaps 0 and not set.
If the MD-82 flap setting value is electrically sensored and not by the PCU, then if the flap lever had been moved inadvertently without sufficient hydraulic pressure. Then the flap value will differ to the actual flap settings even if hyd pressure is restored.
Slats are NOT flaps, and should be down during takeoff since they are raised in flight to reduce the airspeed or to increase rate of descent. And used on the ground as spoilers to aid the braking effect of the main wheels.
yeah he tried taking off without flaps. It happened to Northwest in the 80's and has been reviewed in Crew resource classes since then. I guess spaniards don't need CRM because they are too cool for that.
