But I mean that in the best possible way. This song sounds like something from the Beatles. (Where, exactly, is this song from?) And I love the guitar playing lobster.
Fortunately, the media corporations are starting to get the message that there is a Peter Lorre fandom out here and there's a market for all these great unreleased Peterfilms they've been sitting on like "Island of Doomed Men," "Three Strangers," "The Constant Nymph" and "I Was An Adventuress." The meme that he was typecast and always did the same thing is just not true. There was an astonishing variety to his roles and the way he played them.
The movie clip @ 1:14 looked like it might be from Island of Doomed Men..I have only seen a poster of it and a few brief clips here and there but the studios have not released the movie so I can't rent or buy it anywhere! I would really love to see it! Can you tell me where you might have got the clip? Or suggest where to look to see the movie?
I am a big Peter Lorre fan! Loved this video it was cute and added a little light heartedness to him being mostly cast as a scary madman! Don't get me wrong I liked all the different sides he had to him! He was a great actor!
But wouldn't you agree that much of Lorre's uniqueness was his voice and the manner in which he spoke. We get little of that here - a few snippets. Mostly a song that has, let's face it, nothing to do with him. Wouldn't you rather hear him at 2:16 shrieking at Greenstreet, "You imbecile! You bloated idiot! You stupid fat head!" over these banal lyrics?
I would have preferred that you left the original soundtracks intact so we could hear him as well as see him.
@PhiloYT1 I made the video because I like the song, partially for its lyrics, which I find completely affectionate and charming. Leaving all the audio in would have made for quite the cacophony. C'mon, you can watch hella movie clips all over YouTube; the point of making a fan music video is to put some nice images over some nice music that you like and make them sync as well as possible. I left the voice in during the instrumental bit, anyway.
@vodkavonstroheim I agree with Philo - i have this JBC album, and like the fact that he put up the song (which I liked enough to put on my Ipod) up on Youtube with some video associated. Well done Philo! & thanks.
these were filmed in the 30's, yet here I am, in 2009 and I have kisses for this man. How am I to go about administering these kisses to him? A truly horrible, aching conundrum. Why did god make this happen??
I can't believe this is a real song. It seems like one of those songs that you would find on children's sing along shows. I'm not really into the tune, but I love Peter Lorre. So, I must agree that this is a pretty swell song. lol
The film at 1:06 is "I'll Give A Million," which unfortunately isn't out on DVD, but you can sometimes catch it on Turner Classic Movies. Also, there are several clips of Lorre's scenes up on You Tube! the film at 2:10 is "The Stranger on the Third Floor" and it isn't on DVD either (that's the annoying thing about being a Peter Lorre fan!), but tends to be on TV quite often too.
I was thinking about this yesterday. Songs kinda funn. I'm working on my own tribut as well so I gess we share something in comen. It's kinda funny you minchened Sidny senc he hapins to be in this one segment I picked for the begining part of my video.
What a character, Mr. Lorre looked like a teacup chihuahua.......I have a feeling he was a hard sell, nobody's fool. The demand for his unique character would be in vogue to this day, I believe.
LOL, was trying to catch up on my subscription views...so when I noticed your latest were'nt loaded any longer I went to your channel to find them...how'd I ever missed this one! Loved it!
Damn, I can't believe it took this long for someone to make a video to this song and post it on youtube. Seriously, I've been waiting for someone to do it. Bravo!
What a fun video! Makes me want to watch a Lorre film right away. Great song by The Jazz Butcher too. Who doesn't love The Jazz Butcher? This is perfect.
Yes! As Pierre's sole agent rightly pointed out, Pierre's a lobster. ("Hummer" is German for lobster! I don't know what it has to do with Peter Lorre but the Jazz Butcher is wiser than me.)
OH I LOVE THIS!!! You are so brilliant!! I have to learn your video making techniques. :D Is Pierre your own little creation?!? And lobster has everything to do with Louie the Dope, who wanted nothing but "lobsters with thermador" throughout the film! :)
I only wish I had created Pierre! Pierre belongs to Samn/lolkungfucandy down thar. I feel guilty for not putting her in the credits now actually. GUYS, IF ANYONE WANTS TO EMPLOY PIERRE, lolkungfucandy IS HIS AGENT!
What...The...F*CK?
But I mean that in the best possible way. This song sounds like something from the Beatles. (Where, exactly, is this song from?) And I love the guitar playing lobster.

0:57 What movieis that from? I saw part of it the other day on TCM, but I changed it to watch M. and forgot to check what it was called.

@smileyface7727 That's the Maltese Falcon, one of the movies Peter Lorre's best known for and a classic film in itself, I'd recommend. :)

Is strange that bands write songs about great Hungarian horror actors and state that they're not dead in real (this and Bauhaus' Bela Lugosi song).
Czeppelin 2 years ago 8
I think this is sort of a parody of "Bela Lugosi's Dead", Bauhaus' David J being a one-time member of the Jazz Butcher and all.
