So how can I make this? I've wanted to build one of these with 15 LED but I don't know much about this stuff. Is there a parts list and a schematic I could get?
Cool I made a christmas decoration like that but instead of grounding the Led put it on positive and you well get the opposite effect all light one not that chases. :)
Cool thats what im tryin to make

please please please clarify how did you change the speed of the lights
i have made this same thing as a project and cant seem to change the speed of the lights
can you also provide me the circuit diagram u used with this circuit cuz the one i have is wihout this light changing speed gizmo :(

@taklusyndrome
what clock source are you using to drive the 4017? a 555? a 40xx? I'm using a 555 to generate the variable pulses.
you say you've "made the same thing". which design did you base yours off of?

try changing resistor R1 into a potentiometer. any small (<25k) value.

@muki123 ok i will try
also can you please check this diagram again and tell me what does the 555 circuit do at pin # 1,2 and 5... there all unconnected dots there :(
help would be appreciated

@taklusyndrome
2 is used and is shared with 6
1 and 5 don't seem to be needed. I haven't used 555's enough to know what each pin does.
can you adjust the speed when you change R1 into a potentiometer?

what do you use to control the speed of the lights

just a 555 timer and potentiometer. any circuit that generates pulses will work with the 4017
