Way of capturing the submarine's ridiculous. How the Germans did not discover the USS. With that after the entry of the Americans it was a sonar device that works well
What I would like to know is.....why the hell are they shouting and screaming? rofl, in that situation, surely you'd go deep, and then go quiet as a hole in the water so the other sub couldn't find you.
I can't bealive people think this is a real story ... FFS FACE PALM lol :D .. Its based on a british story and rest is fiction. Its like in Tranformers they talk about space probe mission witch was an European mission they even use the same fucking name.
@resistanceunion Way of capturing the submarine's ridiculous. How the Germans did not discover the USS. With that after the entry of the Americans it was a sonar device that works well
Although everybody criticizes this film for it being an All-American, It's still a fairly good action film AND it does acknowledge at the end all the Enigma coding captured by the Royal Navy. It also notes, of course, how the USN captured U-Boat 505 on June 4, 1944 - but by then the Allies were reading German codings routinely.
It was British personnel from HMS Bulldog who first captured a naval Enigma machine, from U-110 in the North Atlantic May 1941, before the United States entered the war.The real U-571 was not involved in any such events, was not captured, and was in fact sunk in January 1944, off Ireland, by a Short Sunderland flying boat from No. 461 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force. The real U-570 was captured by the Royal Navy, not before the crew had destroyed almost all the secret materials on board.
I just watched it. Hmmmm I really must admit, this is not my cup of tea. I recommend buy "das Boot"! In fact this movie is the worst I ve ever seen so far!
thebhoys88, Inyourface is absolutely correct as were your teachers. The Yanks will claim they invented water if it makes a better movie. In the name of entertainment, one must allow a little 'license', but the Americans are waaaaaay too fond of claiming victory when other allied forces actually did the deed. They will claim victory in WW11, but actually cowered away from the real war which was fought by Brittain and her allies.( New Zealand, Australia, Canada etc)
@patchadams56a no offense but us brits didnt win the war either ( it probably would have dragged on to stalemate), the true winners of ww2 wer ein fact the russians who suffered the most horrific losses and then dished it back with interest to the point we were fighting old men and teens by the time d-day took place. The western allies fought a pale shadow of what was the german army
I am livid with rage that my school teachers in britain lied to me and told me that it was in fact Britain who seized the enigma machine. How dare they lie to me! Im glad i now know that it was in fact the USA who were first to seize it.
@thebhoys88 The teacher who told you that it was the britains that captured it was absolutley right. The americans did NOT take it. They didnt join the ear untill 1942.
Its an american film. So they changed it a bit and sat the americans as the "HEROES" instead. But it was the britains. Your teacher was absolutley right
Hehe perhaps my irony was too thinly veiled lol , i am perfectly aware of this , i feel that the only way to vent my anger over this is too bee sarcastic :D
@xXInYouFaceXx actually your both right the americans DID capture an enigma at some point in the war in a similar case BUT U-571 was captured by the british which is why the vets that actually took part in it frothed at the mouth when this came out
i find it amazingly stupid how you not only didnt pick up on my sarcasm yourself , but blatantly didn't notice numerous other comments which presume it.
I have copies of the original schemes of the type VII-b/c submarine here. I studied the U-995 in Kiel/Germany. I think, i know a lot of german submarine and i have many many books here. To steer a type-7 submarine with a hand full of people....no words any more...it is impossible...the typical number of crewmembers is about 40-60 men. Excuse me about my bad english.
What a fucking lie this film is the British captured the Enigma machine in 1940 , 1 year before the US joined and the real U-571 was sunk in 1944 off the cost of Ireland by Sutherland maritie patrol boat by the Royal Australian Air Force , this film is TOTAL disrespect to the REAL British sailors that actually did this
In almost every Hollywood war film you wonder why they didn't just send that little band of US servicemen to go and win the war.
They ought to have sent this crew to just destroy the entire German Navy.
I mean if they could conduct the first submerged dogfight ever 20 years before it was possible and then destroy a German destroyer it's a wonder that they didn't fire a torpedo at Hitler and end the war.
of course they did not end the war by firing a torpedo at Hitlers destroyer. But they got the Enigma codemachine. Wich helped they crack every message the German sent. So that they could win the war
@xXInYouFaceXx This movie is completely historically inaccurate and it makes German u-boat crewmen seem like mindless nazis and the stuff that happened in this movie, barely any of that happened in real life. it was the Brits who first captured a naval Enigma machine in May 1941, before the United States entered the war.

The British team that did this did NOT sink a submarine in a submerged dogfight, and did NOT sink a German destroyer.

The US never did this in reality you know... the British did.
The film is also highly critisised for its portrayment of Germans as being scared little pussies.
The Enigma was cracked in a barn by a Swedish guy and a few British people.... not having to do with this Hollywood Imagionationland.
SoldatenArvidsjaur23 2 years ago 2
You got his all wrong. This is excactly how they cracked the code. And it was th americans.
and the Germans did not seem any scared or easy to kill. so i guess your wrong

Simply by googling you will find out that the British did this... smth like this.... NOT the Americans.
