@assais: i would suggest you to start with virtual dj! To me thats basic stuff, and can try out video mixing aswell. Virtual dj home version is a free download and it isnt a trail. Check it out.
@assais i agree with djiatro i wouldnt start out using ableton for dj'ing. Ableton comes in handy if you're mixing in your own projects/remixes with a set... but for just straight up dj'ing i would pick any of programs made for Djing. Virtual Dj, traktor, deckadance, or serato. They all offer pretty similar features and have similar interface... except vdj has some great video DJ'ing stuff if you're into DJ'ing video... which few people are
@grenadezeroone thanks man, im using traktor with the S4 and im loving it!! check out my mixes on mixcloud and search for RicMansur and lemme know hwat ya think
@electrolyfe i saw a video of him using deckadance actually. Ive seen videos of him using FL studio as well. It would make sense if he used deckadance in fl studio as a vst
Hi guys! I am starting with Ableton, and I want to know how important is a Good Sound Card to do a Live Session (without any extern instruments / MIDI / pLUGINS) is Ableton?? Could I do a live session with my default Asus M51sound card? Shoud I buy an external sound card as MOTU or M-Audio - Fast Track Ultra????
Thanks for your time in naking the video but the mixing sounds like crap, starting on 3:50 you wrote practise...anyhow if youre uploading a mixing demo you need to start follow your own advices and practice...
So, do you put the effects in the master channel (on the right) or one on each individual track? For example, if you want to use "Flanger<" where would you place it? Thanks?
Who are these old timers complaining about having the computer matching beats? Its evolution of DJing. When turntables came out people using scotch tapes probably whined that it ruined the skill.
It means DJs of the future can concentrate more on doing creative stuff like remixing, looping and dropping samples etc on the fly because the computer does the repetitive manual work for you.
In 10 years, everyday DJing will be about so much more than just beat matching and fading across.
@shayhtfc I'm an old timer. I started on 1200s 15 years ago. Still got 'em too. Learnt to mix the hard way. Nowadays I use Serato (which has improved vastly since it first came out). Let me tell you something. 90% of djs past, present and future, won't learn even 50% of all there is to their craft, even myself included. But the majority of that 90% will loudly dismiss new technology as if they did know everything. Many famous djs don't even know basics, like how to read crowds, count bars etc.
@shayhtfc Also, we won't need to wait 10 years like you said. It's already been happening for a couple of years. Henrik Schwarz is a good example. Check him out live.
The reason however the DJ community dislikes this is because all the things you said like remixing sample dropping and whatever and what not a good real DJ can do already and has been for years. Yes this is not the average DJ these are master DJs; people who dedicated themselves to achieving something more to better entertain the people and have something to show for it. It is like losing your job to a robot. I guess thats evolution though.
@shayhtfc Electronic music is probabally the kind of music that isnt turning into shit If you take the time to find good artists they are doing amazing stuff.
you don't need to go through the whole track putting the warp makers in place, simply do the first one then right click and select 'warp from here straight',
saves going through the whole track each time
and gleboff, of course he didn't beatmatch it it's a program,
the technology is here to be embraced, saying that anyone who uses a dj program to mix can't do it in the real world is folly, take ur head out of your arse and stop being a cock with such comments.
i thought everyone was done with that stale talk about beatmatching, its over mate, beatmatching is no longer that important, there are so many more skills out there in the DJing/production fusion. emjaydee1 knows the score.
When you are in "Session View", if you hit the record button in the top part of the window (next to the OVR button) and then start your set, Ableton will record your work. The way to see and hear what you did it is to switch over to "Arrangement View" - it should all be there - then just highlight what you want to bounce and hit "Export Video/Audio". Viola!
This program looks great for people who like to fiddle around but, I'm a working DJ. I need things to be simple & fast.
I would love to find a program that has a GUI like Cubase, Pro Tools, Audition. i.e. a horizontal timeline that U can drag & drop tracks onto, & move them with ease, BPM chnages where you want them etc. MixMeister Pro LOOKED like it but, it wasn't easy to move the tracks to where U want them to go. Plus, the default fade out settings were annoying too, amongst other things!
lilivier : as long as your tracks are warped properly, the track that you mix in will allways be in tempo with the mix, even if you change the tempo...
a friend wanted to see the basics and i figured i'd find a youtube video instead of me typing everything out over msn....
i havent watched the whole video but just to let u guys know, the beat markers are based on the type of warping u choose to load the track in (beats, re-pitch, complex or tones) for djing, u generally set the default to re-pitch.u might still have to move the first marker to the first beat but after doing so, rightclick on the first beat marker and then click"warp from here"
I never imagined Group X would be teaching me Ableton....
