I saw this film one time many years ago with my Mom. At first I was like "great another boring black and white film." I severly underestimated it in being an awesome film that made an impact on my life. It was beautiful and really made you think and I thought it was great! I would love to see it again.
I just heard of this film by watching a cartoon about Opus the penguin...lol!!! I love old movies, and I love Frank Capra, maybe I should give this one a try.
I saw this on TMC channel not to long ago.....considering the time it came out,it was okay.I know that it was a movie "for it's time",or i guess what i'm trying to say is couldn't they have gotten an actual asian actor to play the part of the host of shangri-la & not a white actor "playing" that asian role???The "big studio" system that they had back then was really silly that way. Then again i have to remember they even had famous white actors change thieir names.
I loved the book. I was especially in love with Conway and felt immensely bad for him in the end :( I can't really tell why, but there was something about his delusional yet admiring characteristics that intrigued me. (SPOILER) He had to leave the only place where he belonged and had to give up Lo-Tsen to Mallinson and to death. Gosh I cried for him. I have to watch this movie now.
i saw this film when i was young it made me cry such a beautiful film they made a new one in the 70s but it was rubbish.now its too lae to watch it as there is no film left
@8757kathy Speak for yourself, your underrating of the 70´s version is based on a materialistic arrogant appraisal, for true mystics, any drawbacks in the production itself were far offset by the intention and spiritual content of the movie and the songs were spiritually harmonious, beautiful. That 70´s version still means a lot to me and made a big difference to my life,as I was already interested in eastern philosophies back then.Of course they can always improve and make better new ones.
I know people don't like this trailer but with a star like Ronald Colman, perhaps they felt that a great name (and great director) would attract audiences without any preview- besides, what clips could they show that would give any decent impression of what the film was about? Perhaps James Hilton's novel was well known by most people anyway...
My favorite film of all time. Saved my life when I was 14. And only gets better over time, with repeated viewings. But why does the trailer suffer from such serious suckage? All I can say to other yootoobers is, if you haven't seen the original Lost Horizon, don't let this lame trailer fool you! It is a masterpiece. Ronald Colman is criminally underrated as an actor - and he took a serious cut in salary to make this film. He believed that Shangri-La was a real place. He believed in this film!
@Euterperocks Evidently , Frank Capra did not direct this movie trailer. Because , judging the book by its cover, this movie sucks. It sucks, in black and white. BWAAAahahahaha. I'll have to rent the original, see what's up.

@ennemme When a movie gets taken down does the person who put it up get in some kind of trouble?
