WHAT A GAME!!! Took me a long LONG time to complete it.
This one, Treasure Island and Fantasy World were the ones I had and loved. I think I'm going to find them and an emulator online tonight and have a good weep into me Stella.
same here i was 5 i used to love playing this game i got the box set im sure it was 29 pound red box set with 4 or 5 dizzy games in it....batman ...one of my fav games was how to be a complete bastard used to make me lol...good old speccy
Your stuff couldn't have been that good then. It's just memories, although I realize about losing work. It seemed good at the time, but when you look back it was okay!
You should have made back up copies, but how were you to know. It's a pity to lose all that work. Even if you had written the programming out on paper, which was what I used to do, you would always have a record of it.
2 bottles of vodka for your own demos and 1 game! Sounds like you had a bad hangover in the morning. Drink finished, computer and own software gone. Oh No!!!
The demo version was given away with Crash in 1989, Your Sinclair gave the full version away in 1990 and Crash gave away the full version in 1991. Romantic Robot made a device called the Multiface which allowed you to save game state. Getting far into a game and suddenly seeing Game Over was annoying. But it made you a better player. Some games did allow you to save your progress such as TirNa Nog and adventure games, but most games didn't.
This is where it all started for the Codies as a reputable software house. I own loads of their original speccy games so I will continue to put them up when I want, after all I paid for them! They made their money out of us all in the 80's and 90's - how much more do they want or need? Some of the software houses are coming round to the idea of allowing their games to be available - come on Codemasters do the same!
And why doesn't Codemasters, Activision, and Ultimate allow any of their games to be downloaded at all? I fear Eidos, Atari and Warner Bros may start denying all their US Gold and Ocean ZX Spectrum games for no reason at all other than the fact that Warner Bros is evil just like Disney!
I cant understand the reasoning behind denying games. I mean, what do they have to gain out of it especially when there are loads of these games in speccy fans collections and to be found in second-hand shops. Let the pirating begin again! Then you have e-bay to make a bit cash from them. It's all too silly!
One final thought...Codemasters gave this away free as a magazine covertape. How times change!
Here's a fun fact, the guys at Activision and Codemasters and Rare today are a bunch of doggone bozos that would rather do the latest generic 3D racing game and Crash game than ever let their classics out of the vault. Activision even murdered that PS2 and DS Ghostbusters game quite badly.
Activision managed to murder several big tie-in games on the speccy. Predator was a prime example. At the end of the day the programmers are controlled by the industry which is sad/shit! Best times were when one guy programmed a game and got paid peanuts. Don't you just love the software industry!!!
Check out my Predator video which must be one of the worst tie-ins for the ZX Spectrum. Then you have Ghostbusters. Ocean managed to produce the goods for tie-ins on the speccy.
I don't play those machines, so I don't have a clue. To be honest with you, I might play the occasional PC game, but the ZX Spectrum is where I'm from.
It's even worse for us Americans who never even got the ZX Spectrum which meant we couldn't even buy ZX Spectrum games in the USA. It doesn't help that Activision in 2005 once their Spiderman and Guitar Hero games became so profitable, they celebrated it by denying permission of their old games!
I suppose the speccy was banned from America especially when the C64 big guys decided to take total control of the place and dominate the market with no competition. No competition=huge profits!
What a classic Codemasters game! I can't believe that Codemasters denies permission of all their great games just so they can give you terrible games on the DS and PS2. I wish Codemasters would go out of business so that their old games can be saved from being left to rot in a basement.
Definitely the darkest Dizzy game. After this (and Treasure Island), they made the games much cuter.

Two words: Rock. Hard. Hours and hours and weeks and months playing the Dizzy games. Codemasters ruled back then.
