who the heck is the lanky, shirtless guy with the buttons on his pants, standing behind farner throughout the song? great performance by grand funk, but that guy is irritating.
@ajtoy454 it shattered from all that energy there. OHIO KNOWS HOW TO PARTY. Damn this is quite the event. They rocked hard live. THat live album they put out is one of the best.
somehow i ran across a full vid of this midsummer rock thing and i have to tell ya, grand funk totally kicked out the jams. the whole show was crazy didn't expect to see alice cooper, the stooges, and mountain on the same show. amazin'!
I was at this concert that summer along with about 8 other friends. There were some great groups there , including.. Its a Beautiful Day (white Bird) , Zephyr , Alice Cooper , Bob Seger System (when he had the awesome drummer Pep Perrine) Mountain , Mott the Hoople , Ten Years After , Bloodrock, Brownsville Station , Savage Grace , there were others but don't remember who they were and the Traffic closed the 12 hour plus show at around midnight. A riot ensued after the show
Love the way the crowd rushes up to see and hear them better. Brings back some memories in 1971. I was in the FRONT row just waiting for these guys to come on stage. When they came on....it was chaos!! People pushed their way forward, and I ended up 5 rows back. (talk about pissed)
Is there a chance any Tokyo Channel 12 documentation of the legendary stormy show of GFR at the Korakuen Stadium still survive??? I have plenty of photos, but no video...
Right Larry, the blond girl is Cheri Chestnut who Mark married in November 14 1972 on Lee Pickens [Bloodrock] boat at the Eagle Mountain lake, Fort Worth, TX.

I like this version better than the animals. Am I a bad person?

The name of the venue was actually "Crosley Field" not "Crowsley," which would close its gates forever later that month.

@ajtoy454
I've seen Don drop his drumstick more times, but he was faster than Lucky Luke drawing his gun / pulling the trigger!
You could almost never see it, neither hear a missing beat!!!

1971 THIS WAS THE PREMIER ROCK BAND IN THE WORLD
OUTSOLD THE BEATLES AT SHEA STADIUM
Untouchable - the stones, elvis, and the beatles were the only
acts close to this band
This is another lost in the shuffle act that no one seems to
remember.
Get their albumns and take a good listen to the roots of
U.S. rock from the 60's and early 70's
Even Hendrix and Cream couldn't pull what these guys did
They were and still are the epitomy of an american band
