if your comment is "the drum beat is all wrong", and then someone says "they did it that way on purpose just to change it up a little" and then you say "well why not do an original", that PROVES to me you don't know much. the answer to *why* they don't do an original is because they WANTED to do a COVER but CHANGE it a little. a cover is not defined as "play it EXACTLY LIKE the original. people do this all the time. if you were a "35 year pro", you wouldn't ask such a question.
No question...Statement! There is only one right way.. otherwise it borders on plagarism. If a cover is embellished then o.k. but making something more simple is just adding to ignorance.
sorry dude. we'll have to agree to disagree. while some covers are great done straight up, some of the best ones I've heard are far different than the original. also, the original song is in 4/4, so although this version has a more straight ahead beat, it's not like they totally dumbed it down. he just double timed it and dropped the tom tom and hi-hat accents. it's not the end of the world :) suffice to say I like both versions but the original is a classic.
Agree the original is a classic, although not my favourite XTC track. Think the test of time will show. I'm sure people will remember XTC & Primus, these guys I'm not so sure.

Bad news- Nigel was made redundant when British Steel was privatised in 1988. He now works at a call centre in Birmingham.

I thought he ended up in an institution with ol' blacklips, being labelled for all eternity :(

@Monthagny A call centre in England, as opposed to Bangladesh? Pull the other one mate!
(No offense to Bangladesh or people who work in call centres)

Better arrangement than the original. Way better.
See what happens when good muscianship meets with great song writing (hats off to Colin Moulding).
Too bad Colin was held back by the Depressive in XTC.

I like this version, has great energy.
A 'Cover Version' is a loose term, if you
like something- you like something,changing
rhythms and instruments is part of music.
If you dont like it, turn it off!

Why would we want a spot on cover when we have the original? Good going guys!

Drum beats are all wrong, to begin with.
blondifan 4 years ago
They're obviously not trying to cover it verbatim. I think it's good - nice genre switch.

Not that radical just a bit looser and more rocky than taught post punk. Not bad.
jackjude 3 years ago
golly- how weird is it that *you* noticed that but the drummer didn't?? duh! they wanted it to have a different flow than the original.
LookAtMeIAmStoopid 4 years ago
Then why do a cover and not an original.
blondifan 4 years ago
you're obviously not a musician and I don't think it's possible for you to understand. we'll have to leave it there.

35 years as a player. Mostly professionally.

Why take something unique and play it as a straight 12 bar.
