there is much comfort in sadness..... Trent truly understood that deep inside, we are all suffering, and yet his music turns that suffering into beauty. His music makes me thankful for being alive to experience it.. I love you NIN
I sit, read, work, do whatever I do and suddenly the line is in my head and the desire to listen to this song again...the experience this masterpiece again.
@poopertaker : The saddestst Songs by Trent Raznor are allways good to fall to sleep! Listen to " Leaving Hope- pianoversion"! Just lay down and close your eyes, listen to it! It will bring you to another World!!! Trent Raznor is the most feelfull Songwriter- He is Great...
This is a spectacular song but I am really starting to get pissed off about the lack of "the trailer" version. For me personally it's 1,000,000 times better and these other versions are like teases that are driving me to want to curse out the band for not originally making the version I love lol.
i have this video on and all that could have been dvd. but its got a live version of this song instead. plus its an easter egg so you have to press the number 7 at 11:18 into the second dvd
doesn't seem like it is about his grandmother as much as it is about the sheer effect of isolation or seperation from everything, which is worse than loneliness.
The song is about the death of his grandmother, and the video is about the same.
Notice the neckless and ash on the scales, the nostalgic note in the entire song in every version and every version seems to be a step in Trentz progress with accepting her death in my opinion.
very good stuff, very emotional and just plain wonderfull.
All the music we listen to is emo. Sit back and think about it for once. There would be no music without emotion. That is were the good stuff comes from. If your not emotional then your just faking it. Melodramatic music is what is popular today. "My girl friend broke up with me so i am going to shoot myself." Those right there are perfect examples of over emotional lyrics. I didn't take those from a real artist.
Shut up you faggot. You think you know what emo music is but you really don't. Go read about music and come back with some brains IDIOT! ALL MUSIC IS EMOTIONAL. YES EVEN HEAVY METAL HAS EMOTION IN IT. TO SHOW EMOTIONS OF ANY KIND IS NOT A BAD THING!

Interesting that I had just attempted to find this version of TDTWWA and this video appeared only three days ago. What luck. Still, I noteworthy piece of musical perfection from one Trent Reznor. I enjoyed how the "na, na, na, na"s are reduced to an almost audible state of whispers and low hums. I was looking for that in "Still" but found it in the single before "Fragile".
All round Genius.

In my opinion this is by far the best version of their best song.
Beautiful, but somewhat depressing song.

Everytime I hear this song I automatically sing along with the naaaas and I never sing to songs.

That's exactly it though. After his grandmother died, he felt isolated from the world, and separated from all feelings and people.

This is not the [quiet] version.
The [quiet] version starts off with abrupt "Na na na na, na na na na na"
It's track 3 on Halo 13.

What version is this then?
[Sorry, I'm a new NIN fan.]

this song especially is perfection on a very high level. My opinion, the "still" version is much better.
I used the music even in my own film, Schornstein.

you can find this on a Cd with only 3 tracks on it; this, the original version and Starfuckers inc.
