  • what started the tradition of celebratin funerals in new orleans?

  • @paulandj dis been going on for years now way b4 i was born what started it i cant even tell u ill have to ask somebody older then me

  • @paulandj well they are not celebrating the funeral, they are celebrating her life. I don't know the exact year it started, but it was definitely going on during the time of segregation. Most black ppl in N.O. did not money to have proper burials for themselves/ family members. So they created these groups called Social Aid & Pleasure clubs. They pay fees which ensured a proper funeral. There would be a typical funeral service, then after a band would play slow/ sad music when the casket was on

  • @paulandj its way to the burial grounds. After, the body was buried, the band would play happier music & everyone would celebrate the good times & the life of the person, not the funeral itself. There's a lot on the web about the traditions of Second Lines, that'll explain it more in depth. Hope this helps :)

  • She got so much love from everybody...beautiful homegoing second line!

  • The nolia clap was goin strong
