  • I use relish too, but I drain it first.

I also use crackers instead of the oats though.

I'll have to try it that way though.

  • @spikefivefivefive Honestly, I only use oats because it's healthier. I think crackers would make them more moist since they're not such a hard core whole grain.

  • your salmon pattys look yummyy!!!

  • J, this is the best cooking vid you've done! That looks soooo yummy and easy!!! I honestly think I'm going to try this soon!!! THANK YOU!

  • That'd be so cool if you tried it! It's one of the easiest and tastiest recipes I've come up with. And I'm proud to say it's my own (except for the dill relish, I'm not even gonna go there!)

  • could you fry it in olive oil? would that be healthy'er?

  • @magenlabelle actually, you shouldn't fry with Olive Oil because it turns into saturated fat. The best oil to fry with is Grape Seed Oil; it will not turn into saturated fat, and give food a wonderful taste :)

  • I've never tried grape seed oil. I was tempted when I saw you'd used it. But I couldn't find it in my local grocery store.

  • You know, I've never tried it with olive oil, just because it's more expensive. But give it a shot!

  • What... no salmon for kitty??? Do you get a lot of oil splattered around you have to clean up? I hate when that happens. I use a round metal mesh thing that you can place over the skillet... those are great. I also have a cooking utensil that I bought for camping that would be good for making salmon cakes. It's like a pair of tongs but with two spatulas on the ends. If you've ever watched a burger slide down into the coals while grilling you know how useful those could be.

  • That's what those mesh things are for! We inherited our house from Billy's gramma, who loved to cook. There were a couple of those in the cabinets and I had no clue what to do with them. Those flipper things sound awesome. Even with my spatula-fork method, I still get burned.

  • @heyjkuhl I hope you didn't throw them away... they can be very useful. You can see what is in the skillet but no grease passes through the mesh. Try looking for "spatula tongs". I did a quick online search and lots of places sell them. They are, basically, BBQ utensils. I bought mine at Walmart years ago.

  • I kept them around, but I never knew why. Maybe it was for this one moment of clarity. Spatula tongs...wonder if they sell them at Target?

  • I have never ever had these, but I am surely gonna try making them sometime!

    They look yum yum yum

    HI KITTY!

  • I love them! They come out really flavorful with all the dill relish, but if you come up with a better way to do it, let me know!

  • Oh, and Kitty says "Meow-zaelf!"

  • New subcsriber, And That looked Great. I could smell it cooking

  • Thanks! Give it a try, but don't burn yourself!
