  • I remember that when this song came out, we were into smokin in the boys room, but we were more into peeking in the girls room.

  • RIP Steve Fortney. Longtime Brownsville roadie.

  • its funny my teacher smokes in the boys room HAHAHA!!!

  • Awesome, never saw the original until now...

  • come on lets get bare footin

  • Great Memories....Party Band... Ready to go Dancing!!!!!!!

  • Saw then when "Smokin'" was a hit on the radio. They opened for Black Oak Arkansas

  • Both Crue & BS charted with this song -- Crue in the 80s. It was THE 70s hit by this band, written by BS's "Cub" Koda. This was all over the radio in 1973 (BS's manager hated it, only made it a 45 when 100,000 fans ordered it). Its subject made it subversive then (VERY smoky restroom at my HS in the 70s, where those who would have cut outside were allowed to hang, full of disenchanted rebels without a clue). ONLY hit for BS, then 1st for Crue. Revising history to say otherwise.

  • the arguments to end all arguments not even an argument actually this is a great song now i agree with those in support of the original you cant best it as vanhalen couldnt do better than the kinks with you really got me they are covers for a reason and thts to pay homage to those who came first believe me i love crue im a huge fan but the original cannot and will not be beat and it does bother people give crue more credit to the song and some even say they were the original writers of it

  • Gotta love Cub Koda's color coordinated guitar and shirt not to mention the great rhythm section of Mike Lutz and Henry "H-Bomb" Weck.... These guys kicked ass.

  • LMFAO at the guitar player's movements!!! HAHAHAHAAHA!!!!

  • Come on people!! Enough about Motley Crap! Brownsville Station wrote this song, so can we appreciate them please? Thank you...

  • Loved this song by Brownsville Station back in the DAY!!!

  • wildman says .........................

  • Crue version is better.

Sorry, this is good, but Crue version is best. (Smokin' iIn The boy's Room, btw)

  • Checking out the hall, making sure the coast is clear.

Looking in the stalls, NAH there ain't nobody here.

    My buddies SIXX

    MICK

    and TOM

    MOTLEY CRUE!!!

  • Song Of The Day.

  • They should do a remake of this song based around texting in school, instead of smoking.

  • I WANT Cub Coda's Les Paul Guitar !!!!!

  • ahead of their time with the theatrics, antics

  • @TheAURIEMMA From tobacco?

  • If you were at a Brownsville Station concert, one thing for sure- a good time was had by all!!

  • Modern Rock wouldn't be what it is without what these guy,s did I swear

  • I loved the 1970's.THIS IS SUCH A GREAT TRACK!!!!

  • 23 son pendejos nerds!!!

  • They remind me of the british rock band SWEET. :oD

  • SWEET!

  • These guys were great! The drummer style sounds more eighties style then seventies.

  • when the guy in the condom dress shaked his ass, that was the gayest video moment i have ever seen...

  • This original version is cool, but I have to add that Mötley Crüe's version rocks too IMO =)

  • I had such a crush on the bass player...

  • now this is what you call rock and roll music i still have 45 record of these two songs they were issued as A & B side to this video posted and i remember watching this on channel 5 WNEW in new york thanks for posting

  • the drummer reminds me of animal

  • Bass player = Dr Rockso

  • Rockin, thanks for the video, Saw them Opening up( Summer Jam), in Hawaii, at the Hawaii Raceway Park, in the early 70's , Man can they rock , Long live rock !!! I'm still stuck in the 70's. 54 & rockin.....

  • grupazo

  • i met mr coda when he was a very good rock critic! very smart man! and vince is a bud of mine, he once told me / tommy u think this will work with the kiss makeup,? i said no , but we were on sunset!

  • david lee roth may have got some influence here

  • what bass is he playing in this one? anybody know??????

  • I find it funny that someone almost burned down my school recently because they were smokin' in the boy's room.

  • Motley wasn't ripping them off. Just paying dues..like any other cover. I like Alice's most.

  • Barefootin was the flip side of the Smoking in the Boys Room 45. Once you got done smoking you flipped the record and jammed along...;)

  • the bass players a friggen home, nice clothes, loser. who want to look at a dude in tights? seriously, I respect the song , the clothes are gay......jeez

  • God Bless Cub Coda....

  • still awesome

  • Let it rip man !!

    Great stuff !

  • ok dudes first of all this song was wrote about bently high school in liviona michigan it was a classic back in the 80s and they all went to the high school

  • @batboy689 LOL this song came out in the early 70's.

  • ok dudes first of all this song was wrote about bently high school in liviona michigan it was a classic back in the 80s

  • Not only did the Crüe cover this song, but Nikki got some ideas for his clothes and bass LOL

  • @lhp70 nope he got it from a steven tyler costume

  • "H Bomb" Weck looks like an octopus with anger management issues. Beatin' the hell outta them drums. YEEEEHAW!

  • my guitar teacher is the bass player in this band!!! im not kidding

  • @WillCarrollTV4 Lucky you!!

  • THIS IS AMAZING ! think about it ....BROWNSVILLE STATION WAS THE FIRST REAL ...HAIR BAND ! pre- 80 's !

  • I remember the rock n roll magazines really looking down on Brownsville Stations lack of musical chops, in fact it was in vogue to dislike them.Circus magazine refered to them,as well as KISS and BLACK SABBATH in 1974 as "punk rock" bands. Meaning groups who lacked musical "sophistication", as opposed to say Seals and Kroft, I guess.

  • @MrSphibe Fuck the Rock N Roll Magizines back then! They liked the sucky music back then.

  • i guess the lead singer has a side job as a referee

  • What made this band so great is that they had three front men. Each one of these guys is a great showman... when did you ever see a bass player move like that??!!

  • Juan Croucier

  • I never heard Motley Crue's version nor would I want to. They blow. THIS kicks ass! But, I give Motley Crue some credit for recognizing a good song.

  • @CherrySlush1 Have you been living under a rock? The MC version has had a lot more airplay over the last 20-some years than the original ever will.

  • @try2bcool

I guess I haven't heard it because I have never listened to radio stations that play 80's hair bands. If I ever came across Motley Crue by accident you can bet I would have turned it off in a hurry. Their kind of music imho, is crap.

  • @CherrySlush1 Were you too high during the 80's to turn on a radio? And looking at the garbage you have in your favorites list, you have little room to judge what is good and what isn't...IMHO...hippy dippy nonsense...

  • @CherrySlush1 You don't have to bring down one band to praise another.

  • About 1972/1973?

  • Funkin' "A" dude! The first album I bought..

  • i saw these guys in kalamazoo mi about the time they formed, they were playing a small club in the top of a barn, we were out front panhandling trying to get in to see them when they came up and asked us where they could get some wine we told them and they came back and gave us the money to get in see them play!!! what a great time and what class! RIP Kub!!!!

  • These guys were ahead of their time.

  • Great band -saw them all the time in the D in the 70's-80's-always loved Henry Weck's drumming-very underrated drummer and band-he used to make those fuckers SHAKE!

  • @iHeartTDG i think a cover never will be better than the original song...

for you the singer may sound like he had a cold... but its the original.

The original feeling that moved the composer.. dont u think so?

idk... the original everything.. and im a huge Motley Crue Fan

  • @iHeartTDG ; dude, you must be a youngster and that's cool, cuz all the young folks like Motley Crues version better, but all us over 50's crowd like the Brownsville Station orig. One thing, Brownsville Station did this song SO many times live in SO many venues, you have to see the different versions to really appreciate it. Peace, out-

  • Saw these guys with Bad Company and Thin Lizzy. Now, that was a show!

  • @salemsgate man,I wish I SAW that show

  • @salemsgate Wow!!

  • A basketball referee and a reject from the Ziggy Stardust album.

  • Cub Koda was Geddy Lee before Geddy Lee. Also, I wonder where Eddy VH got his matching shirt and guitar look from? Big hair and goofy poses 10 years before Motley Crew!

  • I feel old all of a sudden,remember this as a kid.

  • Brownsville Station's original is wayy better than this one, I am so glad hair metal didn't survive, how a bunch of guys who looked like chicks and played crappy "metal" was good I will never understand.

  • we r idiots,a monkey casn play this with a good producer

  • @Syzygy60 --Man, I hate to admit that you are ALMOST right about that, but when you take into account that Al Nalli (Al Nalli Music Store/Studio) hand picked these guys to back the INCREDIBLE Cubby Coda in ANN ARBOR MICHIGAN, then sent them up the charts, well, can your monkey do the dog?

  • I still have this 45! lol

  • Oh yeah, Smokin' in the boys room. Everybody knows that smokin ain't allowed in school.......

  • crazy costumes

  • @TheChicanoboi consitering motley covered they dident murder i like both songs

  • @TheChicanoboi ....motley crue cannot hold a candle to the station.....cub koda would have crushed mick mars ego

  • @TheChicanoboi you imbecile, Brownsville Station (the band in this video) are the one's who originally came out with the song, long before anyone in Motley Crue were shittin in their diapers!! Motley Crue copied them!! you have to be young and estupido!!!

  • @trubolt

im sorry what? i dont understand pendejos!

  • @trubolt That song was released in 73. no one in Motley Crue was in diapers... Though the members of Brownsville Station were probably shittin their pants knowing that one of the biggest bands of the decade wanted to cover(not copy) one of their mediocre songs that cracked the top 40... anyway.. Love this performance.

  • @trubolt Motley Crue didnt copy them. Ever heard of a cover?

  • Welcome To My Nightmare was released in 1975. Perhaps the 'chronic' has clouded your memory.

  • IK saw them open for Alice Cooper in 1974 at Walker Arena in Muskegon, Michigan...still got my ticket stub. Opening band was "Pegasus", followed by B.S., then Alice did his whole "Welcome To My Nightmare" album. (This was back in the vinyl days, kids)

Thank You over and over for this post!

    Legalize it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    OUTSIDETHEBOCKS

  • saw them live sometime in the 70's, one of the best concerts..

  • Motley Crue RUINED it!

  • Hell yeah, originals rule.Copies/remakes suck ass water.

  • I admit Motley Crue may not have ruined the song, but they couldn't touch Brownsville Station's classic original. Brownsville Station was one of the best at what they did.

  • @1701ryker you bet it brownsvilles guitar players better then whats his name from motley crue in my opinion anyway.

  • @1701ryker personaly i dont like the original version i am a huge motley crue 4 life and i think they did it 100% better!

  • rest in peace cub

  • Thanks for sharing some kick ass 70's Rock n Roll memories!

  • motley crue sings this song more rockish

  • @TheChicanoboi i think you mean 80sh

  • Motley Crue suck!

  • This may be the most retarded post ever

typed on you tube. Congratulations on being as dumb as 2 bags of hammmers

  • @TKTRV

TKTRV, What does your ignorant comments have to do with Brownsville Station??? Here's a fact for ya....if clueless stupidity were a capitol crime, you would be sitting at the head of the line on death row.

  • you are a fuckin idiot!!!!

  • they Are Rock n´ Roll

  • love this

    fching song

  • You're not even allowed to smoke in the guys washroom, so what are they talking about?

  • That's the point, essentially its a song about being rebellious. Bored in school, bell rings, you meet your friends in the bathroom to have a smoke, check to make sure no ones around to catch you, etc.

  • both motley crue and these guys are good but motley sounded better

  • I hear what you're saying, I don't know why people are thrashing you..you just gotta remember, there was 20 years of RECORDING TECHNOLOGY between the 2 versions !! , plus contrary to popular opinion,,MOTLEY CRUE is a great band.

  • Motley Crue doing this song better is irrevelent. Brownsville station wrote this song and was the first to record it.

  • yeah but quality speaking , motley has a better sound since they recorded it with more technology..y prefer motley beacuse of vince voice, but thats my opinion...its all a matter of taste...

  • That too, I agree, Vince's voice (love it or hate it) is one of the most unique in music history.

  • I remember seeing them in the mid 70's. Cub was wearing this shirt that said "Wockel" or some shit. I never did figure out what that was.

  • Brownville Station, Motley Crue, they're all good.

  • there's a very old hebrew cover of this XD

  • @gaya1323 yeah it sucks XD

    Tislam sux

    Motley and Brownsville much better (;

  • YAY MICHAEL LUTZ

  • the original

  • You've got to give props to the musicians who actually write and compose a song. Anyone can come in later with improved technology and do a better-sounding cover. Inventing is much, much harder than imitation.

  • @BluzBro17 got that right on the nail-head !

  • @BluzBro17 Couldn´t agree with you more. Well said!

  • @BluzBro17 I agree to what you said about musicians who actully write and compose a song. But in this case the original writer of this song was NOT Brownsville station !!!! Doug Morris - The Chairman of Universal Music Group wrote this song for Brownsville Station back in 1973

  • @krgetflyrecordz Heard a radio interview back around 1973 where Koda claimed they were on a tour in south Texas and stopped at a service station to use the bathroom. He claimed that while there they lit up a piece of paper and stuffed it in the trash can, and that the wastebasket started to catch fire and generate smoke. As they were getting in their car he said an attendant yelled "Hey, there's something smokin' in the boy's room", and the title for the song was born

  • @ATamandua If that indeed happened that was quite foolish - being a filling station they're blessed the place didn't go up in flames. BTW, I think Mr. Morris also wrote "Fast Phyllis" which was the B side of B S's "I'm the leader of the gang".

  • @ATamandua I learned what I did in my college class, I am in Music Business and one of the topics I had to write about was Doug Morris writing this song, so I came to check the song out, saw a comment about musicians writing and composing there own music and figured i might be able to clear it up. Who knows tho, maby my college professor gave me false info ...

  • Comment removed

  • SOUL hot and GOD BLESS the " -'station"...I met Cub once...R.I.P...he sure was a smArt person!!!

  • He shakes his fanny at 0:43. Whats with the geddup? It looks very Rainbow briteish.

  • Crue rocks this

  • This is the only version I know. I didn't even know Motley crue covered this.

  • @jurkis1 What were you just born?

  • Uh, no. Why do you ask?

  • @jurkis1 About not knowing the Crue cover. My bad .Maybe you're too young? They recoded in on their third album and it was kinda their first hit[.M.t.V. mostly] .I don/t think it got as high on the billboard charts. It was pretty close to the original.

  • I always thought Motley Crue was butt rock. So I never really got into them. I don't like mtv.

  • Motley Crue kind of is butt rock

  • Beats the hell out of the Motley Crue version

  • Cub wanted us to be his back up band. We were alreadly signed to BOMP! We played like 3 killer gigs with him. He was THA BEST! That guy can fuckin rock out! He had tons of copyright problems with "Smoking in the Boysroom" and could never play it with us. He got the rights and the $ he deserved. Motley Crue made him RICH! He was a REAL ROCKABILLY ROCK and Roll MF! He died but his great music lives on! I LUV THIS GUY! Bobby Boo TBD yes,,,its GLADE!
  • I prefer the sequel to this song "Hacking In The Cancer Ward".

  • sorry but the last true rock and roll band was the crowes but brownsville was deffinetly the last of their era. motley crue is just a huge show lights pyro, reg hair metal, fuck that shiit brownsville is where its at

  • @ryan401 You are talking mainstream because there are many great rock bands that only people that seek out music know about. People that listen to the radio or even satellite don't know shit what is really out there! There are so many good bands today that you could listen to one band everyday til you die and not hear them all.TALK TO ME!!

  • motley crue is garbage

brownsville was the last true rock and roll band

    believe

  • just because motley crew is shit that dosent mean everything else is

  • @RoyStorey, Dude, Check out the Hellacopters you might change your mind. I mean Status Quo.35 albums and still counting. That's all they play is Rock and Roll.I love Brownsville and always have .I have all their stuff from 'A Night on the Town to Brownsviile .I think 'Motor City Connection is "The Station" at their finest.

  • Great songs, loved it, brought back many memories.

    Thanks.

    *****

  • usually i don't like when music is sampled but i do have to say the crue beats the original version of this any day

  • In some ways I would agree, but don't judge by this video, the original recorded version was better. Granted, Cub Koda wasn't as good a vocalist as Vince Neil, but on the other hand, the Crue wouldn't have had this song to cover if Brownsville station hadn't been there first.

  • their drummer sucks flat out dont even try to deny it...hes a fail

  • i always hated motleycrew

  • motley crue is fucking awesome retard.

  • this is the 70's right

  • Who cares about Motley Crue's version? They were just a third-rate Van Halen subsitute. Crap guitar player, awful singer. Luckily for them there were a lot of idiot fans in the mid-80s. That's why Quiet Riot were succesful.

  • Totally agree. I hated that 80's hairmetal crap.

  • hahaha o come on you know the crue versions fun

  • Thats what you think. Crue has a great guitar player, a great singer, great drummer, and great bassist. If you dont like them thats not my problem but dont chew them out.

  • Crue has a great singer? Youv'e gotta be kidding. Vince Neal is the biggest waste of human flesh to ever front a major band.

  • wrong. motley crue are gods and no one can say otherwise, and vince neil is amazing.

  • Vince Neil is a scumbag.

  • Vince Neil used to have one of the finest, highest and cleanest voices in rock´n´roll, so unique, so different, it fits perfectly in Motley´s style, i love Vince Neil so much.

Altough i recognize the fact that he´s not the same anymore, his lifestyle and the bad thins he´s been through has deteriorated his voice, i still enjoy his live performances VINCE you rock dude.

And fuck you millerman60 you are a retard.

  • vince neil is NOT a scumbag, the complete opposite actually.

  • complete opposite??? I would say drinking and driving and killing a member of Hanoi Rocks is a pretty scumbag move

  • yeah, and then they kicked him out of the band, and he felt bad, by the way, i don't blame him for getting drunk every once in a while if his 3 or 4 year old child DIED! you'd get drunk to for god's sakes!!

  • You are an idiot, MOTLEY CRUE music rules, it´s so rock´nroll, so great. lots of great tunes, masterpieces like Dr. feelgood, Live Wire, Too young to fall in love, Bastard, Wild Side, Kickstart my heart, etc..

Don´t compare Motley with crap eighties bands like Quiet riot, Warrant, Krokus, Britny Fox, Skid Row, Poison, etc. MOTLEY CRUE is an higher level , not in the same league.

They might not be skilled musicians but their music FUCKING ROCKS no doubt about it and that´s what matters.
