  • I hear all the elements of a true Styx master, in the vocals, in the songwriting, and the music.

the feud should be resolved in this lifetime...DDY is awesome!!! This CD Rocks! it's in my cd player.

  • Awesome, just fucking awesome....we are not worthy!

Great songwriting, outstanding production and incredible studio finesse!

Brilliant piece of work and a testament to a gifted talent ... Mr. Dennis DeYoung

  • Did anyone notice the whispers of (what I think is) "Styx, Styx, Styx, Styx" at the beginning of the song? There may be another word or two before that, but I can't tell what it is. Maybe these are the thoughts of his breakup with the band. Sure wish we could hear his commentary on the song!

  • @P1ckUpStyx You know at first I thought you were just hearing things but when I turned up the sound it does sound like "styx, styx" kind of reverberated. .

  • @rcgamer For some reason I can hear the whispers best from the iPod. I feel quite certain the words are "Styx" but I can't tell what comes before that. I just saw DDY in concert last night in San Diego. Great show- I only wish it lasted longer! He's a character; he kept me laughing between songs -and sometimes during them too!

  • @P1ckUpStyx You really can't hear it without head phones on, but YES, it does say Styx. And if you pay attention to the words of the song, it's kind of a combo story of Come Sail Away and Renegade. Two of Styx's biggest hits.

  • Fabulous song off a pretty damn good album. Forget the Styx - Dennis feud. Just enjoy the great music, whichever party produces it please. The rest is rubbish really. I think Dennis outdid himself, especially on the album.

  • possibly the finest singer the world has ever seen

  • @brywol -- why do you think Dennis was sticking to the rest of the guys? I saw the behind the music and i don't remember Tommy or JY saying anything about that. Am i wrong? Wouldn't they say, "the reason why we kicked him out of the band was because he was taking all of the money!" -- i just don't remember it being that way. Do you have some evidence to back that up ?

  • yeah actually i don't think he needs styx. He IS styx anyway so he by himself, the styx spirit is there in he music. So far, i just listened 3 songs from this album and they are all really good. The last few styx albums have been horrible.

The other point i want to make is that I think DDY really puts alot of himself into all of his music and thats why it takes 5 years to make an album. Every song sounds very well crafted. Quality over quantity.

  • @Robbiegod1 That, and he's writing all the songs himself. That has to take some toll on his time. He's written maybe 15 songs for this album, including possible songs that didn't make the final cut. Also, he was kind of diving into some unknown territory with songs like “I Don't Believe In Anything” and “Private Jones” to make the album sound like Styx. I believe the result is that Dennis was absolutely THE best thing for Styx. Too bad this album wasn't released in maybe 2002. Chart-top worthy!

  • I know everyone writes it, but if they are reading, JY and Tommy, bury the hatchet and just ask Dennis to return. Do it for the fans.

  • I agree, but I also disagree, Styx (Tommy and JY) SCREWED Dennis Deyoung, and he should and deserves all the credit for this, this album proves that Dennis needs Styx far less than Styx needs him, but they will most likely never admit it. I am a die hard styx fan, but the current lineup is a cover band,. Plain and simple.

  • @mrroboto5785 ACTUALLY- since Edge of the Century- I think Dennis was actually sticking it to the other members royalty wise. Prior to that, they got more money from their album sales, etc. Around the EOTC, Dennis renegotiated and took a LOT more of the profit from the album sales than the rest of the guys in the band. While this was a great move on Dennis' part, I think it was kind of a "I won't reform with you unless I get this". The other guys in the band let him do it, but it added tension.

  • He really needs Styx to give this music justice... and that synth should be cranked!
