@ion010101 Philip Hinchcliffe was the producer who wanted "Who" to move away from being a kids show. He wanted it to be appreciated by intelligent college kids and adults so thus he moved it in a darker, gothic, horror direction. In his era, you can see a heavy influence from "Hammer" films. Also the scripts are more complex, intelligent and cynical for good reason. Having a nonconformist bohemian eccentric(Tom Baker) as the Doctor helped as well. Might be why many love this era so much.
@ion010101 So you don't like modern Doctor Who then I take it. Well even though I never saw the Classic Series originally (I`ve got several DVDs though) I prefer old Who to the New. I still like todays though
@CYBERDOODY I find that most diehard fans of the series who are familiar with both eras(classic and modern) thoroughly dislike the modern series for many obvious reasons. Tom Baker IS the Doctor and THIS is "Doctor Who". The absolute peak and everything that was/is good about the show. We wouldn't even be talking about "Who" today if it wasn't for the utter genius of Tom Baker, Philip Hinchcliffe, and Robert Holmes. These are the men who revolutionized the show and made it popular Worldwide!
@MetalheadJay78 Agreed; I do like Moffats direction with the series but Hinchcliffe and Holmes are still my personal favourite team! Moffat is better than RTD too. But yeah Hinchliffe years are best!
if we ignore the fact he's breaking the fourth wall, He's probably just gotten used to people going through the routine of: "We're not where you said we would be, Let's have a look around."
I wish I wish oh how I wish they would put out dvds of these that don't have the credits interrupting every 23 minutes. It's just annoying to have to be ready with the remote to quickly mute the "SSCCCRRREEEEEEDEDEDEDEDE" of the ending credits every 23 minutes. They used to put out vhs tapes with the whole episode from beginning to end without interruption from credits. I'd much rather own those. It's weird to me that more haven't complained about this.
Because dear chap, Alot of people prefer the cliffhangers as they were broadcast...Who DOESN'T love it when the theme screams in during a cliffhanger, it's a staple of Doctor who,
Ask around. I find it obnoxious and really rather not in keeping with the tone of the rest of the show (as it was in those days). But, as I've said a zillion times, drwho had the very unfortunate bad luck to have no creative control - no one who knew what defined the show. What it managed to be for a short while in the 70s was, sadly, a fluke for the most part. No one makes tv shows for bright children on purpose. We prefer to talk down to kids. We prefer lowest common denominator crud.
@99rhetbaboons I agree 100%. First Russel Davis and his soap opera crap and now mr moffat and his fairy tale nonsense. If you dare disagree over on the series 6 trailer be prepared to be called all sorts of names and accused of "not liking" Dr Who. Some of those guys on there are down right scary with their blind devotion to dr who.
It's nice to beable to watch these classic doctor who videos before they come out on video somday, P.S. type in tmediaofdeath in the youtube browser the guy has alot of old videos. Have fun checking those out who ever watches this video.
The introduction of my favourite Dr.Who assistant,Leela.

thumbs up if you think they should have kept leela's eyes blue for the whole time she was on the show. Brown contacts clash with her brown ensamble.
