what did you pour on it in the beggining? and why?
i've tried twice to melt copper. no luck. i did it with fire in an earth oven. i reached it's melting point but i think the problem was the cones i used. any ideas?the copper melted only in the bottom of the oven and just because the cones broke down there
Copper can TAKE A TON OF HEAT melts at 1941 degrees F. Your firebrick looked like it was not rated for high temp, you need refractory ceramics. 3000 degree bricks if messing with melting copper. It was cool to see it melt. Hope to hell you had safety gear on. In fact if that brick "popped" and splattered 1900 degree copper ,a poly carb face shield may not have saved you. This is why melting metals is best done in an enclosed forge with a melting crucible
@definca theres always idiots out there who have the basic gear and think " i know ima melt me sum copper", and those bricks are possible the worst thing he could have used, they are aerated concrete (lots of bubbles) so are prone to popping

home depot... oxy mapp for 50 bux, or a standard mapp for 20
pixuma 2 years ago
How high a temperature can the $50 Oxy Mapp generate?
TheNilvarg 2 years ago
enough to weld, however the small oxygen cylinders cost 8 bux and they only last about 15 minutes max.
i use my standard mapp torch running on propane to melt aluminum works fine
google "reli burner"
these are easy to build, and produce a TON of heat
pixuma 2 years ago
dude i bought a popane can for 3 bucks and a torch tip for 12 bucks so for 15 bucks a torch is not very expensive,
and the 12 dollar tip lasted me years even tho its cheap

what are those things floating on the top of the metal from 1:45 to 2:47? How do I get rid of them >:0
Rilxoy 2 years ago
like helge said its just slag...a normal part of the melting process....all you have to do is simply scrape it off....
metal0artist0kyle 2 years ago
Those might be bubbles.
Doomhammer15 2 years ago
When you melt metal to a liquid, there are little things floating on the top of it and spinning. What are these called and how do I get rid of them?
Rilxoy 2 years ago
That's slag, aka impurities in the metal.
Helge129 2 years ago

what did he pour on top of the copper?? does it help melt quicker of summin??
vetteburna 3 years ago
I'm guessing (really it's just a guess) that it might've been borax, which is a flux that prevents the copper from oxidizing as easily.
AScannerClearly 3 years ago
borax is generally used as a glassy type of flux for aluminum although if this guy is inexperienced he might use it...
