To every1 who has the unrendered problem: download MPEG streamclip and convert your movie files to DV files or any other file type FCE supports. That should do it (works for me tho)

@DALEproductions He might have used mpeg streamclip. Drop the file in there and then drop it into FC express and you won't have to render every little thing. Works good and I like it. You can download free off the apple site. Unless... he's using FCP. I hear that's the only difference between that and Express. which it quite expensive when you can do the same thing in express. You just have to go around the rendering thing. Which isn't much of a hassle anymore.

@boalohanuiloa that happened to me when i first got fce4, after a couple weeks of using it i only had to render songs. I think the rendering goes away when it adjusts to the quality of your image.

You need to convert the clip that you are using before you an import the file in to FCE.

@boalohanuiloa Look at the timeline window. To the upper left, click the "RT" button, and choose unlimited. I suggest setting the quality to low and the frame rate to half or quarter, as this requires a MASSIVE video card (I think? something massive :)).

If you use apple pro res and have a decent machine you should have no problem rendering real time. I can on my 2.4 macbook pro.

@boalohanuiloa U can download MPEG StramClip, a free program, which converst your video into formats that do not require rendering in final cut express, it's quite easy too. Check for a tutorial if u download it

@boalohanuiloa Double click your click in the timeline, and it should load up into the "Viewer" window. Hit play, the only bad part about this, is that you can't hear any audio, so try playing some music over it while you are editing, or talk to a friend.

@boalohanuiloa Which Version of Final Cut Express are you using? - Final Cut Express 3.5 introduced DynamicRT which is used for Realtime-Rendering your Effects.

The Quality of this Realtime-Rendering depends on your actual Hardware-Performance - The more ram and CPU-capabilities you have, the better the quality.

When exporting the movie the effects are rendered again, but then in full quality, but for preview while editing you surely don't need the full quality.

I'm having trouble importing my image. Just imported my png. Looks great in Pohotoshop, looks great when imported into FC and amazing in the left editing box. When it's added to the timeline however, the image is distorted. I've tried ai (vector), I've tried just importing the psd, still it distorts it. Any idea of how to help!??? : /

@missp64 you would put the effect over the pic on the time line. then double click the curtain effect, go up to effects>Video filters>key>luma key. then go to the filters tab of the curtain in the viewer. there should be a selection. the default will be Key Out Brigher. Change that the Key out Darker. that should work.

usually, if you open up the project and there are windows missing, go under the "Window" option in the menu bar and there will be a list of windows. Tool pallet, viewer, canvas, and timeline. Just click on the ones that are unchecked and you should get them back. Hope this helps!

yeah i did it with my dog, all you do (for the talking one) is get a clip of ur cat opening its mouth and then duplicate the clip in final cut and play the duplicated one backwards, then put them together in the timeline and use the voiceover tool (tools>voiceover) and there, its talking. :p
