  • What do you mean they're still operating ? Some shops are still open in this ??

  • 1:45 - 1:47 slenderman / shadow figure.. At the base of the stairs..

  • This is what happens when you let a bunch of niggers and mexicans loose. They destroy everything! A shame.

  • It wasn't the thugs it was a lot more. I grew up in Barberton and the whole Romig Rd area went to shit. A lot had to do with Summit Mall/Montrose/Fairlawn area as well. No matter what you do now you won't get people to come back to East Akron. I still go to the Penny's store about once a month you can see inside the mall from in the store. It is litterally crumbling away so sad!!

  • good ol internet takes the place of the local mall

  • Turn the whole thing into a paintball or airsoft battle field!

  • i wanna skate in there lol

  • BTW thanks for the video was a stroll down memory lane

  • It was actually chapel hill mall that attracted a lot of customers from here .. people was tired of getting beaten up and robbed by the area thugs I don't recall there being cops here but its been a long time since I was there

  • Westland mall and Tuttle(:

  • This is what happens when communities start to fall apart, property investors charge too much for rent, and people stop supporting these "empty shoebox" money sucking machines. To tell you the truth, this video depicts the future (and present) of America in general. Thanks to all the jobs shipping overseas that is. We've got a mall just like this in my area called the Machesney Park Mall in Illinois. (Was a small airport before that.) Nice video, thanks for sharing it w/ us! :-)

  • I thought it was someone rolling really fast in a wheel chair at first, haha.

  • It looks so nice. . Was the sears still open?

  • well the thugs can't rob anyone anymore. That is what brought this place down. Hope they are satisfied!!

  • if your dad was offered anything from the mall you guys should take the glass or the railings. money's worth there

  • I was just there two days ago at Penny's outlet. You can see inside the mall from the store. Its in such horrible shape everything is going to be in such ruins. The whole mall and Romig Rd in general is going to fade away and nature will take it back. Such a shame

  • Every country in the free world has never-to-be-open-again Malls...just show you how the Internet has changed the face of Retail!

  • Wow...makes for an interesting skatepark, though!

  • YES I was thinking the same thing "Dawn of the Dead"

  • Now I'm thinking of Zombies....

  • dawn of the daed!

  • this mall gone 2 waste theres a mall near me that has only 12 stores open and fits up to 27 stores which is now an ghetto mall

  • I like the planters and the big square wooden table/seating things. Sad to think of all that wasted space.

  • c'mon man, it's a friggin mountain bike! why you bein' a pussy and using the wheel chair ramps? Go down the friggin stairs!

  • @jeffpicks it was a beach comber bike, big fat tires not for jumping and shit.

  • That would be sick to skateboard in!

  • sears looks like it was still full stocked

  • that would be soo tight

  • Am I really the only one who wants to go ride a skateboard in there and break as many things as possible?

  • Nice tour. Thank you.

  • skating there would be straight as hell

  • god, that places CALLS for someone to buy it and convert for CQC airsoft...

  • should grow weed in there

  • @68Squid I totally agree man

  • perfect place for an airsoft war :3

  • if your in an Abandoned mall what do you?

a:steel stuff and getaway without knowbody knowing come home with a crapload of stuff

    b:ride a bike

  • Holy crap...is this Rolling Acres Mall in Akron!!? I moved away from Ohio about 30 years ago--use to go here when I was a kid, and it was a beautiful mall--first double decker mall I ever went to. Thought the elevator in the center was so cool. Can't believe it's totally abandoned. Wow, I'm old.

  • Raises questions--I'm sure the owners made lots of money from this place at one time. Enough to retire times over or to pay for their lavish lifestyle of the day. BUT I'm sure that they would hardly want to pay the tax bill on this place now or current liablility insurance. The locals end up footing the bill to eliminate this place eventually (not the owners). Politicians sell the public on the development of these monsters, but they don't tell you about the final chapter.

  • wait... is sears and jcpenny are still opean.

  • @Infocomgames the Sears is now closed.

  • cannibals are your town ghosts

  • @JME32907 where r people guess cannibals ate them

  • zombie apocalypse

  • did you take anything?

  • I spent allot of time in that mall as a teenager loved the arcade. not trying to relive the past just good remembering good times.

  • Shame... but great place to go skateboarding, paintballing, filming zombies movie, etc...!

  • 4:39 lol wut?

  • I dont know why people still do it aswell!

Why use the N word!!! Its just horrable and racist!

  • Why is it that in the year 2012 we are still using the "N" word? Nothing in this world will ever change or improve if we continue to live in these mindsets...

  • is the place still abaondoned? I know some malls that are huge but only have like 2 stores in them like this

  • Its a sad sad story. This is what happens when you let too many niggers and white trash come into a beautiful area and rob it blind. This was a great mall and was an architectural masterpiece for its time and even by todays standards. When you let trash loiter around a successful business and dont take it out, this is the outcome! Paying customers move on to places where they feel secure. Ill always have great childhood memories of this place.

  • @jkocsis1 Absolutely. The same thing happened to the once great in the 70's and 80's Crossroads mall in OKC. I have great memories of that mall growing up and now it's dead. The problems started when the nigger and mexican thugs started hanging around and the mall did nothing about it. After several years a cop eventually killed a gangbanger in the mall and that was really the beginning of the end.

  • Why was it abandoned?

  • looks like a seine from a horror zombie film if you ask me.

  • At 1:39 was that just garbage or something else?

  • What is the current condition of the mall? Someone should really reopen it however I doubt it will happen due to the economy. This is a perfect example of where our entire country is heading. When will America stop being lazy and greedy? The real only way to fix it is to create paying jobs and bring manufacturing back to our country....do people not see how great it was prior to all of our outsourcing....???? well I'm sure my little blurb here will be taken the wrong way... :) peace

  • I worked at Auntie Anne's there in the 90's.......was such a vibrant mall. It certainly will be missed.

  • What a shame for this mall to go to waste

  • Thanx for posting this,I grew up at that mall and it was so popular,Ive always wondered wat it looked like inside now,Its a shame the whole place has ended up like that. Its very eerie looking, almost like something out of a zombie movie.Terrible what happened to such an amazing mall.It sure brought back some memories seeing it again.

  • this mall died because akron people can only be defined as: white trash nigger hillbillies, black trash niggers, perverts, retards and faggots

  • why wouldnt u skate it

  • is the mall torn down now

  • go to 1.45 you can like see a dark figure standing in some stairs looking up

  • "URBAN TERRORISTS" ran out the paying customers!! Used to be a GREAT PLACE until certain non-buying thugs came and terrorized the patrons. The last times I went there, when I was in my mid 20s, i was constantly shouldered into by black youths trying to start fights. Don't hate the TRUTH... Hate the URBAN ATTITUDE

  • @MarkCox73

    stupid monkeys

  • Wow, so depressing. I used to shop there all the time.

I remember frantically, last minute Christmas shopping there on year.

Remember how cool the glass elevator was ?

    :-)

  • Holy s***. I had forgotten what that mall looked like on the inside. But after seeing this, the memories of going there are coming back. All the unique details of how the place was shaped...kinda eerie to see whats become of it since so long ago.

  • How can the usa allow crime to get sooo bad that this would happen to a beautiful mall like this. It looks nice from what I can see in this vid.

  • I went here all the time as a kid. it was always so crowded and full of life.

  • I remember goin there every saturday, now its a ghost town...

  • What saddens me isn't greedy investors but all of the happy families and freinds who once hung out there

  • I saw aladins castle! they should turn it into a paintball park

  • August 6, 1975

    Closing date October 31, 2008 R.I.P.

  • Is the Sears store at 4:17 still open?

  • @SuperOffgrid

Sears Holdings announced the Sears store would close by April 2011. It was open and entrance was on the outside. Other stores like JC penny closed and the Mall building is up for sale

  • can you just walk in there ?

  • I went to this mall my whole childhood. I loved the glass elevator and the fountain. I spent a lot of time there with my friends as a teenager as well. I will forever miss this place!

  • So sad to see. I loved going there as a teen. Fantastic Mall! Too Bad Crime destroyed area. Everyone became afraid to go and were certainly out before dark. Ashamed this had to happen. The whole area is not somewhere you want to be day or night.

  • were you able to find anything like merchandise from stores? lol

  • this would be a fuckin awsome indoor airsoft place

  • Interesting footage. Thanks for posting. I find modern abandoned things creepier than old things.

  • I was sooo expecting to see some zombies creeping out of one of those dark storefronts! =o)

  • why was it abandoned??? I dont get it, all those businesses and jobs ,.. gone.

  • @Transformatics

Same reason that a lot of old school interior corridor malls are going kaput. The businesses and jobs moved elsewhere as the demographics of the city they were in changed. There are dozens of such abandoned malls just like this one all over the country.

  • It looks like a monumental temple to consumerism, after the people no longer believe in that god.

  • One of our big malls went bankrupt and they put a massive Bass Pro Shoppe in there. We where very lucky. It is a store that is really quite useful. They sell tons of weaponry and survival gear. They stay very busy. Wonder why.

  • Flea market and bingo hall coming soon.

  • I know a mansion that has been abandoned for 11 years and it has a indoor swimming pool full of house plants that are still alive but they are also overgrown.

  • At 1:46, some people said that you could see someone walking up the stairs on the lower level. It appears that way, but that is not really what it is. The stairs are actually coming up toward you at that point, therefore if it were someone, you would see them between the treads of the stairs where there are commonly risers. If anyone who has ever been in that mall relly remembers, those stairs had a single steel stringer that ran up the middle of the treads as oppose to going up the sides.

  • @SHYJER1 Whay you are really seeing is the stringer on the underside and in the middle of the stair case coming toward you, not someone walking up the stairs or an apparition. As great as that would be, I'm pretty sure I'm right. I could be wrong, but I am confident I am right. I could only wish it was an apparition as that would make that one of the places I would like to hit up for a ghost hunt sometime.

  • PAINTBALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

  • That's pretty cool

  • why did it close

  • It's so sad I used to go there all the time as a kid and get ice cream as basking robins and eat it next to the fountain and throw pennies in it.

  • did you take anything?

  • wow big mall, all we need now is jake and elwood

  • With all of these abandoned malls around the country, if hollywood decides to shoot a "mall" movie, why don't they use one of these? This way, an actual mall that IS open can still be open and not close it down for months or shoot at 5am.

  • As I got older I thought this mall had a strange floor design with multiple stairways and ramps leading up to or down different levels of shops. Strange thing is after all of these years I still remember playing on those wheelchair ramps.

  • I cannot believe they closed this mall down. I loved walking thru here when I was young & than after I had my kids. I move away & this happens. Sucks. Why did it happen?

  • hobo housing instead of abandonment.

  • Sadly i think this will be a familiar sight across america real soon, just abandon buildings and store's that used to be. That would make an awesome location for a zombie or horror film of some kind though.

  • jcpenny?

  • soooo you just walk in the mall or something...

  • skatepark

  • @CKY that would be awesome

  • Place is cool and pretty big

  • This is what happens when free enterprise is strangled. Beware

  • @StinkFingerr really? from looking at wiki, most of the anchor stores moved to different locations due to cheaper rents and lack of business in the mall. free enterprise in action more like!

  • if the occupy wall street people get their way, this is what the USA will look like.

  • @pete5668 Doesn't make sense lol.

  • @GetThisThingCrunk it does make sense though. Malls don't operate without corporations. The occupiers are against corporations.

  • @pete5668 so if the tea party got their way it would be anarchy? I doubt either group is that extreme.

  • @pete5668 and anyways aren't they more against corporate greed and unfair wages business practices. So it wouldn't be like this it would just be people that work there make more money and the rich aren't making 300,000 dollars in bonuses for no reason.

  • cool video wow thanks for the tour.its a shame the mall shut down.someone should have taken those beautiful plants home with them instead of leaving them there to die.oh and the one store Sears toward the end has lights on and i seen clothing in there was that also shut down or still open? wow it looks like a nice mall

  • It would be fun to play in here if you were a kid :D

  • I would LOVE to ride my bike through a mall! Roller Skating would be cooler! Did you get creeped out?

  • My favorite is the Summit Mall.

  • That would be a great place to play paintball.

  • Is that the recession/economic situation crissis in the US result??!!?

  • Did you find anything to take?

  • thought u were in a wheel chair but then i saw u said riding your bike so haha

  • 0:06 I would take that chair lol

  • @elshafto111 omg like in the darker part??? I SAW IT TOO

  • Did they used to have a Tannoy/PA System in there? Are the Speakers still in the roof/on the walls?

  • Yeah that mall is pretty creepy. The JcPenny's, Macy's, and Sears are still in use. This mall is in a really bad part of Akron. Which is partly why it was abandoned. I remember like 8 or 9 years ago when this place was a fully functioning mall. Now it's just depressing to look at and it gives me the creeps..

  • @elshafto111 i see what u see

  • Musst mal das Fahrrad Ölen.

  • I typed "Eerie Breezes" and this was the first choice. So..I expected it to be scary, and the only thing that scared me was the bike you were riding. It sounded like it was going to explode at any second. haha But seriously, I realized this wasn't intended to be scary and then I thought...man I wish I had a mall all to myself!

  • damn what a waste

  • I was given access inside the mall it looks worse now... but i am now filming a horror movie at the former dillards check out the teaser trailer on my channel, romig rd corridor teaser 2

  • @houdinifan27, it is Fall 2011 and obviously you heard a lie because that mall has not been remodeled or been bought. You received some very false information.

  • i would go in the stores..

  • @hugs4thethugs they're probably locked.

  • wow! this is the creepiest thing I've ever seen! good job! someone contact the people from The Walking Dead tv show, they should use this place to filn zombies walking around-although even w/o zombies this is a really creepy place!

  • @MsRandomnotes1 I know right! Have you seen the videos of the Six Flags that was abandoned at New Orleans? It's amazing. Someone tagged the sign and it now says "Welcome to zombie land kids"

Totally looks like something out of a zombie movie.

  • @LeavingForVenus im from new orleans and they are about to rebuild the six flags

  • @MsRandomnotes1 Hilarious!! that was the First thought i had too!!

    love that show,its Awesome

  • @MsRandomnotes1 We have a abandoned mall in Illinois....

    Real...Creepy

  • is this mall accessible and still standing? Anyone know?

  • left 4 dead

  • Thanks, very nostalgic for me. Even something as you going around certain corners in that place brought back some memories... I miss that mall.

  • Comment removed

  • wasteland mall + bike ? great moment !

  • at 4:27 theres clothes in that sears???

  • you should of check in the store to look for some stufff they left behide like video gomes or something

  • @elshafto111 isee it next to the white pole to the left

  • this mall looks like the mall at Green Bay wisconsin. and that mall in green bay is sweet it has a food court gamestop everything exect an arcade room...

  • @elshafto111 That partially transparent whitish image you saw was actually on your screen. It was a remnant from the last porno clip you just watched.

  • THE SEARS HAD CLOTHS IN IT!!You could've broken the glass!lol

  • Late at night, with a flashlight and a couple of joints... :)

  • would be awsome if you found a jewelry store with all the items still in it. or a game stop

  • @Frizz90 he was riding a bicycle for crying out loud... !

  • So sad! I can remember just about every store that used to be there.

  • look when he turns the corner at 3:55, a small ghost next to a pillar.

  • Crazy vid!

Go to Chapel Hill Mall (2000 Brittain Road, Suite 830, Akron, OH 44310) and Vote For Picture 003, Swimming with Jellyfish! Support Akron!

  • What store did that cart come from at 3:57?

  • Why was it abandoned?

  • I grew up in the area in the late '70s-80s. It's odd to see the mall abandoned like this. JT

  • Wow, this brought back memories. I took a tour of the mall back in 97 or 98 for my school. I went to the PLCC. At the time they only had two security officers working a day. And half the cameras under the glass covers didn't work.

  • I remember going to the mall as a kid. Then till i moved away from Akron. The arcade there was nice along with the stores. Thanks for taking us back in time....

  • So sad...so many good times there when I was young

  • feels like he is going to go around a corner and there will be a pair of twins standing there.

  • Why did it close?

  • Stupid fuck couldnt hold the camera still.

  • So sad...I remember shopping here as a young teen; and my brother used to work at Foot Locker eons ago! :(

  • 3.56

  • Something very poignant in particular with this footage. The world 'races' by outside while a formerly bustling location decays; unnoticed save for the few that can appreciate what it represents.

  • holy big mall

  • i'd turn that into a mansion

  • so stupid :)
