  • That is called a Traffic break.

  • Its a traffic break, more commonly know as a "round robin"

  • i work for caltrans and the CHP called me to do one of these and KICK everyone off the freeway for a fatal accident. i stopped my car blocking both lanes and told the first car to get off. The lady said "is this a joke?" i said no. Her face was priceless

  • Thats a traffic break for various reasons...

  • Howcome the top two responses don't ANSWER THE QUESTION??? FUCKING MORONS!!!

  • In Texas its called SWANGIN

  • thats a traffic break

  • He is slowing traffic down becuase if you watch the whole video, there is stopped traffic and didn't want an accident. Smart Idea

  • For all you dumb people its called GHOST RIDE THE WHIP

  • Traffic break. Best invention for protecting cal trans... although sometimes you want to run cal trans over for taking forever to do anything.

  • It's called a traffic break. He's holding traffic back so that another officer up the road can safely walk out onto the roadway and clear debris, or get a disabled car out of the lanes of travel.

  • What the fuck is this all about,

  • lol he is chopping

  • C.h.p did this on the 210 freeway near pasadena..... Slow down traffic for like 10min fool made me late to work

  • Its tippin it slow

  • Having fun...

  • its a traffic break it is to ease congestion on freeways , to keep traffic at bay to clear debris up ahead and keep people back if there is a police pursuit

  • The donut shop just made a fresh batch and the cop doesn't want anyone passing him and getting there first.

  • bored cop.....................

  • Mike Jones may refer to that as flossin', or swervin' in more specific terms.

  • LOL, Its a "traffic BRAKE" dumb asses! done for many reasons; removing debris, stopping traffic for accidents or vehicles blocking roadway etc etc etc

  • some departments call it a traffic break but over the patrol we say round robin

  • It is called a round robin!

  • Still tippin (:

  • traffic drag

  • my cousin works for the highway patrol, the shit he has seen scares me.

  • The cop is slowing the traffic down because either a accident is up ahead or a sudden cease of cars.

  • its called traffic breaking guys come on

  • No real term for it. Rolling road block sounds appropriate tho. I live next door to a chp and it's just for shutting down the freeway for whatever reason nessicary.

Generally debree in the road or a bad collision or something.

  • Rolling road block

  • surpentine!

  • haha u guys are all dumb they do this when traffics backed up!

  • It's called a rolling slowdown.

  • round robin - don't know why they call it that - it ois used to create a traffic break

  • It's not called anything... He was texting.

  • Its called a "traffic break"..oh and to you "educated" folks out there its "Break" not "brake".

  • @900triumphrider Don't you hate it when people spell things the wrong way?

  • its called a traffic stop, CHP is trained to do it during traffic if they are on a hill to keep dumb asses from plowing into traffic and causing pile-ups. Theirs another one like it called a traffic brake and that stops traffic completely in dangerous situations.

  • I already saw a motorcycle doin it and it was called a V.I.P

  • he musta watched a nascar race yesterday!

  • 1960views try some decaf coffee it tates just like the real stuff LOL

  • its called fucking up my drive!!!

  • its called driving fail

  • It's called warming his tires up.

  • its called a traffic break

  • @1960views quit trolling faggot, its easy to be a hard ass behind a screen and a keyboard.

  • its a traffic break....its to slow people down so idiots going too fast won't crash into the back of the stopped traffic ahead.

  • It is called a rolling road block. There is an accident or other danger ahead and the CHP have found it is safer for all concerned to begin slowing the traffic down in stead of allowing 65mph traffic try to stop at a stationary road block.

  • Its a strong arm tactic because some chickenshit sleazy Gov. beaurocrat piece of shit is being transported or driving in an area and they have Law Enforcement run interference for them so they can have the road completely open for themselves, but if you pass these faggot cocksuckers they give YOU a ticket for impeding traffic but are doing EXACTLY what they charge YOU for!. SCUMBAG COCKROACH GOVERNMENT PISSING IN YOUR FACES AND MAKING YOU PAY THEIR PAYCHECK TO DO IT TO YOU! COPS R COWARD MOFO!

  • @1960views YOU are a fucking dumbass. Slowing traffic so when they get over the hill they won't rear end someone when they have to stop aall the sudden. There's absolutely nobody he is making way for.

  • I SEEN THE WASHINGTON STATE PATROL (WSP) USE THE SAME TECHNIQUE HERE , ONLY THING WAS THAT HE SHUT THE FREEWAY DOWN IN FRONT OF ME ...KINDA COOL

  • Its called the "dont pass me or your ass is gonna get a ticket"

  • Red Barron

  • He's trying to find an off ramp!

  • WELL I THOUGHT HE WAS TRYING TO REMEMBER WHAT EXIT TIM HORTON'S / DUNKIN DONUTS// 7/11 WAS AT.

  • If we drove like that the CHP would give us a ticket. Hypocrites.

  • Do they go to school to learn how to do that? And for doing that, they get to earn a six-digit pension that our taxes pay for? Geezus..... What's wrong with California? Say NO to the public employees' unions!

  • @braden307 - no dillweed! They get the good $ and pension for responding to crap you wont! They get the good $ and pension cuz they can't run when people are fleeing for their lives, they have to battle it. They get the good $ and pension cuz not only during their career but long after they have to deal with the nightmares and visions of the disfigured bodiesof men, women and children they have seen over the years. All while you u relax behind your desk. Youre an idiot!

  • @sbisk yeah like their job is so hard. writing speeding tickets and coming up on an occasional crash. paramedics and nurses deal with that in much greater depth but make much less money. sounds like you have a hardon for chp officers. i bet you watch chips every night and jerk off to it

  • @AmetdeathA - who do you think is the first person on an accident seen you tool?! They also respond to unincorperated areas for regular calls for service.....rapes,shootings domestic etc...... tell me AmetdeathA, what do you do for a living? When is the last time you stopped a felon who had dope on him and was looking at 25-life in prison?...What? Eh? Never!? then zip it. You see some media vids or youtube vids and you think you know what they do everyday!? youre a jackass

  • @sbisk LOL to that.....CHPs biggest risk is whiplash from nodding off in their cruisers. Clerks working the overnight shift at 7-11 are in much more danger than CHP heroes sitting in the back booth at Denny's....lol

  • @neckarsulme - I see....and you know this how? I'll tell you what, lets compare how many deaths directly related to the job there have been between what you do for a living and CHP officers......Lets also compare how many life threatening situations one CHP officer gets into compared with how many you do for a year. Listen, just because you have issues with authority and/or just lack the balls to do their job, don't go down playing what they do!

  • @sbisk Funny thing is people like you always have the same arguement. The facts show otherwise, with traffic fatalities as the leading cause of death for CHP. Guess what? this happens to over 100,000 people a year in this country, and there's no fanfare or solemn funeral processions or days of mourning. Stats prove that you have a much more dangerous job being a liquor store clerk, and they certainly don't make 100k with OT. CHP have the luxury of picking who they pull over for that expired tag.

  • @neckarsulme- ooook and im sure youre taking into account the relative numbers of CHP officer as opposed to the numbers of citizen drivers on the road? Also, I'm not just talking about traffic. Im talking about going to calls for service.....tell me, when the officer gets dispatched to a man with a gun call or a domestic violence call, does he also "have the luxury" to decide if he wants to go to it? Riddle me this....If its such a cake job and you get paid so well, why dont you do it?

  • @neckarsulme -but the most ironic (moronic) thing about you and AmetdeathA is that if the chp officer in this video wasnt slowing traffic (lets say for an upcoming road hazard) and one of you tards actually hit the road hazard and got hurt, you would be the first jackasses to sue the CHP for failure to keep you safe. You'll deny it now, but its obvious youre the type.

  • @sbisk yeah thx 4 that,policemen from this world

but dont forget the fire fighters!!!

  • @sbisk ,no, they make good money because there revenue collectors with guns for the state !

  • @sbisk lol who still says dillweed?

  • CHP officer is looking for someone to race. Officer is crossing all 4 lanes which means you must have a V8 to race against him. So next time pull up next to him, give the officer the thumbs up, and take off.

  • 101 north! in la! hahahha

  • He is rehearsing for Black sheep 2 with Tommy Boy!

  • As you can see he is slowing you down because traffic is stopped ahead and a dumbass like yourself would drive headon into it and crash into the back of stopped cars.

  • He's drunk and he wants you to pull him over

  • I'd call 911 to report an apparently intoxicated driver.

  • That's how they warm the tires before the race starts. ;-)

  • its a bit like a rolling roadblock in the uk

  • Traffic Break, i would know because i call them to do that when i need help. It's my job :-) Freeway Service Patrol!

  • it is called " show time bitchz."

  • Why are you using the cellphone when driving?!

  • 101 @ Barham....Donut shop @ Lankershim and Riverside

  • @BryanConover 101 @Barham seems very close...... Rick James neighborhood

  • i did one of these the other day and a lady tried to pass me.... i blocked her so fast scared the heck out of her. Kind of freaked me out to that she would do that. When i finally let traffic go she yelled at me " SORRY"

  • @PInk77W1 are you a CHP officer?

  • @Bratva323z no but CHP dispatch calls me at 1 in the morning about once a week. 40 times in 2010. no chp here but i work with them very often. and yes i do traffic breaks from time to time. one time the CHP park his car in my way i told him to move it.... he said u move it... so i got to drive a CHP car... thats about as close as i come...

  • @PInk77W1 lol you do trafic breaks 1 in the morning? that is amazing.

  • @zack3mohamud i do them 24hrs a day. Safety is #1 job. Traffic break is for safety only. Time of day or morning has nothing to do with it.

  • @PInk77W1 Mathematically, it seems as if traffic breaks will occur randomly with or without a round robin.

  • @Jemalacane I dont think u drive in LOS ANGELES. Maybe at 1 am. In other parts of calif yes. In los angeles not really.

  • @Jemalacane You seem surprised that the police would waste their time and our tax dollars on a completely ineffectual exercise that's doomed to failure.

I have a drug war; I'll sell it to you cheap as soon as I deliver this bridge.

  • @disorganizedorg I'm not surprised. I know the government wastes loads of money on stupid shit.

  • @PInk77W1 They should install some traffic control devices (variable speed limit signs?) and lay off the police manpower wasted on this crap.

  • @disorganizedorg they have tons of traffic control devices, they have way more traffic than devices.

  • traffic break

  • In the U.K. police driving like this are letting you know that there is a big problem ahead(generally an accident) and need you to slow down and whatever you do ,don`t pass the officer. It is a warning .When he pulls his car on to the shoulder lane ,then you can speed up .

  • He's just a bit drunk. Sobers up towards the end of the video.

  • called a round robin to slow traffic down, i drive class a in the awesome state of california, hahaha- (really a crap sink hole) all it does is nothing usefull, and a total waste of time, this pit meneuver is another awesome f---up california shit as always, just to piss everybody off.all chp activity is crap, DON'T MOVE TO THIS STATE, YOU WILL REGRET IT

  • its simly called a traffic break, I call for them all the time in my job as FSP to clear debries from lanes or move a vehical out of traffic lanes

  • Its not a TPAC at all, a TPAC is what you describe i.e pursuing and containing a vehicle failing to stop, this was quite simply a rolling road block designed to slow the traffic down due to an incident ahead.

  • They did that procedure in CHiPs .

  • They did that procedure in CHiPs .

  • Rolling Road Block

  • lol never hear about this maneuver :/ (eu)

  • Thiz cop must be from Huston texas tippin on fo fo'z like that haha

  • In the United Kingdom, that's a rolling roadblock but the traffic car doesn't swerve across the road, they put a sign up in the back that says POLICE SLOW and go into the middle lane and gently slow the traffic down.

  • @simstorial in north america a rolling roadblock happens usually in a pursuit, and its works like this. The officers surround the vehicle with their cars, one one all 4 sides, then gently slow down, hence forcing the driver to do the same... :D

just thought id share the north american meaning :p

  • @wimpwad This is called a TPAC in this country. On the motorway or a dual carriageway, one car gets infront, two to the left or right (depending on which side they are going to do it on) and one at the back gently slowing the car down and grinding it to a stop. - TPAC ... Tactical Pursuit and Containment

  • Its called a traffic break. Usually used if there is an accident or debris in the freeway ahead. The break allows another unit to clear the accident or debris that is further up the freeway.

  • This is called the cop huffed too much paint manuver

  • Was there a traffic accident up ahead?

  • Looks like hes drunk! :)

  • Target practice.

  • It's just to slow down the traffic if the officer thinks the speed of traffic for that part is too fast or there are debris in the lanes and cal trans is cleaning it up and they want to make sure those guys are safe. I saw an officer start doing this right infront of me and the first time I saw it I thought the car was skidding out of control. Pretty cool to see.

  • Looks like a really drunk cop enjoying an adventurous drive.

  • It is called a traffic break. It is used when law enforcement needs to slow down traffic (debris in roadway, snow, fog, escort etc.)

  • Its call..let me put a red cone for you guys..and pick some trash off the freeway for you guys. You tax dollars at work

  • HAHA! Rolling down the 101 driving up past Universal. It tripped the shit out of me the first time I saw them do this. I did not see the police doing this in the East! Everybody else was slowing down and staying back, so I knew not to pass him. Are there any LAPD or CHP out there that can state what this is called? Round Robin? Traffic Break? Snaking? Rabbit run? The 2nd time I saw this, they were blocking the traffic back to let this guy on a broke down bike get across to the exit.

  • hehe no one has the same answer

  • Rolling road block.

  • The term is DUI

  • its simply called a "traffic break". its used to slow/stop traffic. there may be a collision with vehicles blocking lanes, there may be debris/objects/animals/etc. in the roadway that they will clean up so people dont hit them. the point is theyre slowing down traffic so that motorists dont collide into something in the roadway. the best thing to do is not pass the officers vehicle, if he stops and blocks traffic then you stop. it can be an expensive citation passing an emergency vehicle.

  • hey black people do this is rap videos!

  • @eotechm4 LOL

  • @eotechm4 LMFAO

  • It is called hazing traffic. They usually do it when there is a high speed pursuit in progress or there is a bad accident.

  • That is what is called a "Round Robin" for a traffic break also known as. 11-84 traffic control, 11-85 tow truck, 11-41 ambulance 11-80 injury traffic accident from the high sierra's/lake tahoe [Ch Gray-2 valley division #13] south lake tahoe office [Ch Gray-2 valley division #70] gold run office [Ch Gray-2 valley division #80] truckee office/dispatch [45.6000 mhz 173.8 KQR537 Base/Rptr] [42.8800 mhz 173.8 KA 4993 Mobile] . • That is what is called "Round Robin" for a traffic break or slow down.

  • A traffic break....stay 300 feet behind him.

  • Traffic break, round robins, whatever. it's used to meter traffic in a heavy vehicle environment. I've seen it done in LA countless times.

  • pacing traffic. may be some debris in the road ahead and they are cleaing it up or may be hanging overhead powerlines over the road so they pace traffic so they can do whatever it is to get a gap in the road.

  • Rolling Road Block. In the UK they just get in the middle lane and switch on thier rear Red stobes and all lanes cannot go past that police car until he suddenly accelerates to the speed limit.

  • This is a traffic break maneuver. Sometimes when there's a bad accident or a dead animal like a deer, the CHP will weave in front of you, stop, move whatever it is that's in the way, then wave you through when he/she is done.

  • officers do you know how much you have had to drink tonight? oh sure 2 beers thats what they all say.... your coming with me!

  • It's called a break check

  • rolling road block

  • Traffic Break. Actually a pretty dangerous maneuver too

  • Traffic Break.. slows traffic for construction/accidens/traffic hazards

  • OOOOOOH, HE SWIRVIN'!!!!!

  • I think they used to call it a "round robin", but generally its known as a traffic break.

  • it's called tiping

  • o shit ur in hollywood

  • It's called a "round robin." It's used to create a traffic break.

When my wife was a teenage, a CHP unit was doing this on the 405 freeway in SoCal. Being a new driver, she was not familiar with this maneuver, and decided to pass the unit. That caused the CHP unit to pull her over. When the officer asked her why she drove through the traffic break, my wife responded "I thought you were just playing." Apparently, the officer found this to be quite humorous and let her off with a warning.

  • @Jeff41a ha, nice enough of him, seems like she really didn't know though and shouldn't been let of entirely

  • @Jeff41a oh wow my girlfriend did the same thing and got a 157$ ticket.

  • @Jeff41a lmaoooo

  • @Jeff41a Wow, how did she even past the driver license test? That is in the handbook and most likely on the test... Another example of how easy it is to drive in our state.

  • he came to work with a bottle of WHISKY!!

  • It's called a "round robin"

  • Pssst ... he's showing you the proper way to drive on a freeway :)

  • traffic break...to slow traffic for hazard or car accident

  • Traffic Break

  • Comment removed

  • He/she is slowing down on coming traffic. So that means slow down and don't pass him because you really don't want to meet the officer in person.

  • its done to slow down traffic because there is some hazard ahead... e.g. stopped traffic on a highway, he's trying to slow you down so you dont come flying over the hill and crash into the slow or stopped traffic....

  • Thats what we in Houston call Swangin

  • do they do this during rush hour too?

  • @cylinder4ify He is slowing traffic for an up ahead Hazard its warning all fast moving cars to slow the hell down, so they dont cause a bigger accident.
